From Vietnam POW Howard Rutledge:
"I tried desperately to recall gospel choruses from childhood,
and hymns we sang in church.  One night there was a huge
thunderstorm...suddenly I was humming.... one I
had entirely forgotten since childhood.

Showers of Blessings, showers of blessing we need!

The enemy knew that the best way to break a man's resistance was to crush his spirit in a lonely cell.  Hymns may
be boring to some, but it was the way we conquered our
enemy and overcame the power of death around us."

Faith is an Action Word

Faith Filled Friday

Faith....a word of action.

Faith....a word that describes my unwavering
trust in God.

Scripture tells me in James 2:17 that
"....faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action,
is dead."

.....WoW....
....faith without action?...
....dead?....

Question...Do I have true faith?
Are my actions consistent with what I believe?

God wants me to act in a way that reflects what I believe
concerning Him.  Faith is not just remembering God's Word;
faith is putting God's Word into action in my life.

Faith is an action word!

Faith is always accompanied by action!

Faith is my trust in God's Word.

Do I have active faith;

John 17

A Thought For Thursday

In a recent blog I encouraged the reading of the
Lord's Prayer. (Matthew 6:9-13)  Several ladies
commented that John 17 was a Lord's Prayer also.

That peaked provoked my interest thoughts
and a little Bible study resulted.

John 17 is a beautiful prayer, it's Christ's last
prayer from the cross.  It is often called Jesus'
"high priestly" prayer, because it is primarily
a prayer of intercession for His followers.

In verses 1-5 Jesus prays for Himself..

Father, the time has come.  Glorify your Son,
that your Son may glorify You.
John 17:1

In verses 6-19 Jesus prays for His Disciples..

I have revealed you to those you gave to me of the world.
They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed
your word.
John 17:6

In verses 20-26 Jesus prays for All Believers..

My prayer is not for them (disciples) alone.  I pray
also for those who will believe in me through their message.
John 17:20

(Since I picked up in 'mid-stream' I added the word 'disciples' so you would know
who He was talking about.)

John 17 is a beautiful chapter in God's Word,
it certainly blesses the soul.

I Surrender All

Wednesday's Words of Worship

....Worship....
What exactly is that?

Nave's Topical Bible says to worship is to
render to God only.

hmmm.....okay.....what is render?

According to the dictionary render means to
give ~ contribute ~ supply
cede ~ yield

WoW !!

Worship is not just singing, it's not just
raising our hands and it's not just something
you do at church on Sunday morning.
To worship is to daily surrender your entire
being to Christ.

Give yourself to God
Contribute yourself to God
Supply yourself to God
Cede yourself to God
Yield yourself to God

Worship is all about God.
It's about giving our
actions, words, attitude, everything,
to God, keeping our focus on Him.

I Corinthians 10:31
"Therefore, whether you eat or drink,
or whatever you do,
do all to the Glory of God.

Worship is a total and complete offering
of self to God.

Romans 6:13
Do not let any part of your body become an
instrument of evil to serve sin.
Instead, give yourselves completely to God,
for you were dead, but now you have new
life.  So use your whole body as an
instrument to do what is right for the
Glory of God.

As I'm wrapping up this post a beautiful hymn
has entered my thoughts.  It's playing over and
over in my heart.

♫ All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live. ♫

♪ I surrender all...
   I surrender all...
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all. ♪

Touching My Heart Tuesday

....And All The Birds Said....

!! Don't Worry !!

As Dean and I were having breakfast yesterday
morning a bird landed in the birdbath just outside
our window.  He perched on the side and then he
just jumped right in the middle of the cool water.
He was having so much fun,
not a worry in the world.

As we watched that little bird I was reminded
of Matthew 6:26..

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither
sow nor reap nor gather into barns;
yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not more valuable than they?

I love that scripture and I have read it many
times.  I am a 'worrier.'  I always tend to worry about tomorrow.  But God is so good, for he sent
the birds as a constant reminder of His goodness.

I am valuable to God.
He will provide my needs.

You are valuable to God.
He will provide your needs.

( Excuse me while I put a big hallelujah here. )

Hallelujah

( ohhhh, that was wonderful !! )

The following was written by
Elisabeth Elliott, it is from yesterdays
Women of Faith Devotion.

Today is mine.
Tomorrow is none of my business.
If I peer anxiously into the fog of the
future, I will strain my spiritual eyes
so that I will not see clearly what is required
of me now.

( I love that.. )

Isn't it just awesome how God took a breakfast,
a bird and a devotion and touched my hert.

Praising God

Jesus taught His disciples to pray,
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name."
(Matthew 6:9)
Majestic, holy God is to be honored and carefully respected.
He is also personal and loving, and available as the
"Father in heaven" to each individual.
Paul assured the Ephesians:

...one God and Father of all, who is above all,
and through all, and in you all.
Ephesians 4:6

We pray daily, our talks with God are so personal and
in depth to our soul.

But, I must ask you, when was the last time you
prayed the Lord's Prayer.
God himself told us to pray in this manner:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread .
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen

Matthew 6:9-13

Sowing Seeds of Scripture

Are You Ready?

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven,
with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and
with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise
first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left,
will be caught up together with them in the clouds to
meet the Lord in the air.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

What an exciting day that will be!!

I have heard it said that the trumpet mentioned in this
scripture is a shofar.

A shofar is a trumpet made of a ram's horn, blown by the ancient Hebrews during religious ceremonies  and as a signal in battle, now sounded in the synagogue during Rosh Hashanah and at the end of Yom Kippur.

All Christians do not agree on every detail of what will occur in the final events of this world's history.  Some of these events and their order of occurrence have simply not been made clear in the Bible. The details of this great event will be made known in God's own time.

We just need to be sure of our own trust in Jesus alone for salvation.  We are all just a heartbeat away from eternity.  It doesn't matter if you stand before God tomorrow or fifty years from now, in the realm of eternity it is irrelevant.

The important thing isn't when you stand before God;
it's where you stand with God.
