Delight in the SonShine

Psalm 37 is a rich passage of Scripture, in verse 4 we are told to delight ourselves in the Lord...

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

What does it mean to delight yourself in the Lord?  I think it means to simply turn our focus away from ourselves.  In Colossians 3:2, Paul tells us, Set your affection of things above, not of things on the earth.  He's telling us to make our relationship with God the most important issue in our life.  Desire to know Him, visit with Him and do all things for His glory.

Let's look at the second part of that promise ~ God will give us our hearts' desires ~ not only will He fulfill our deepest longings, NOT just the desires we have for things, BUT our desire for spiritual wholeness.

We all, whether we are aware of it or not, have deep spiritual needs, and only God can satisfy them.  He alone can make us whole.  He does that for those who delight themselves in Him.

God places new desires in our hearts.  He makes us spiritually whole, He gives us new priorities, new values, new desires.  He gives us holy desires, desires for spiritual blessings, desires that only He can fulfill.  AND He delights in fulfilling them!

So put on your happy face cause God is delighted in YOU !!

I Couldn't Resist

I was in the garage rummaging around and I found this table setting, brand new, still in the box!

I now remember when I bought it.  It was on a 1/2 price table in Penneys and I couldn't resist!  That was over a year ago. I brought it home, put it on a shelf in the garage and forgot about it. 

I have such a weakness for dishes.  I love old covered casseroles, vintage canisters, sugar bowls, and the list goes on...! 

After a good washing it was time for a good breakfast.

hmmm...hmmm...good!

Yep, that's Ollie Owl you see there, he came for breakfast!

My daughter Tracey bought the peach preserves when she was on vacation, so happy she got a jar for me too!.  They are so good and just about all gone.  I've enjoyed every bite, toast or biscuit, it was good on both!

BTW, have I ever shared that Mr D makes the best biscuits?  Love to hear him rattling around the kitchen in the mornings, cause it means a good breakfast is about to happen!

Taking time for one more cup of coffee, then I'll let the day begin!  I love to do so many different things, retirement has not been boring! 

hmmm...let me see, what will I do today?   ;~)

Questions for the week:

Do you like to sing? What kind of music are you likely to sing?

I love almost all types of music!  I was a teen-ager during the rock and roll years and like all teens I was a 'rocker and roller!'  As music changed and I changed country music was the top choice.  Mr D played in a country band and we were very much involved in his music.  Through all of that I always loved gospel music and still do. 

I'm a 'sing-along' singer.  I'll sing along with any song that's playing!  Just don't ask me to sing by myself, it's not pretty!!! 

Do you watch soap operas (daytime TV), or have you ever?

I worked most of my adult life.  Somehow I did manage to watch the first episode of Days of our Lives.  I was an avid soaper during the short time in my life when I didn't work.  Everything revolved around General Hospital and Days of our Lives.  Since retiring I tried to watch a few soaps but they've just gotten too smutty for me!

Do you wear glasses or contacts?

Started wearing glasses when I was twelve ~ only for reading.  Now that 'old age' is here I can't see a thing without them.  I never wore contacts, just can't stand the idea of putting them on.  My daughter wears them and she loves them.  Hers are tinted green and they really make her eyes pretty.
(I think that owl must have come over from Deb's place. teehee)

What's your favorite easy meal when the weather is hot?

We eat a lot of salads during the summer.  Sandwiches are good and best of all....let's eat out !! ;~)

Tell me something about the past week.

I've been doing a lot of sewing lately.  I love to sew and I'm working on a fun project.  I plan on sharing it when it's finished!

I've had such a good time here on the porch.

Praying for Others

Prayer is the recognition that if God had not engaged himself in our problems, we would still be lost in the blackness.  It is by his mercy that we have been lifted up.  Prayer is that whole process that reminds us of who God is and who we are.

Brothers and sisters, I beg you to help me in my work by praying to God for me.  Do this because of our Lord Jesus and the love that the Holy Spirit gives us.

Romans 15:30

 

When we entrust our requests to him, we trust him to honor our prayers with holy judgment.

 

Monday's come around way to fast. 

Time for laundry and some house cleaning and maybe a few errands later.
