Laughter and Latte

The Doctor Said WHAT???

What Did the Doctor Say?
by Barbara Johnson

A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor's office for a checkup.  Afterward, the physician asked to speak to the wife alone.  He told her, "Your husband has a serious problem.  Unless you do the following things for him, he will surely die.

"First, you need to make sure he gets a good, healthy breakfast every morning. Then have him come home for lunch everyday and feed him a well-balanced meal.  Make sure you feed him a good, hot, nutritious dinner every night.  Also, you must keep the house spotless and clean so he won't be exposed to any unnecessary germs.  And finally, don't burden him with household chores."

As they settled into the car for the ride home, the husband asked his wife, "Well, what did the doctor tell you about my condition?"

The wife replied,
"He said you're going to die."

(Ladies, I love my wonderful Mr D but I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read this!)

bahahahaha

Wednesday's Words of Worship

Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

This is the gospel call;
Whoever will, let him come.  All who come will receive rest, this is a gift from Christ.
All who come will receive peace and comfort in their hearts, this is also a gift from Christ.

He showers us with blessings everyday, all we have to do is go to Him, to seek Him and to worship Him.  His mercy and grace are given to us daily, He reaches out His hand to lift us up.
We struggle because we do not open our gifts from Him.

Thank You, Jesus, that You will ease and refresh our soul when we are weary and that You will give us rest.
In Your Precious Name
Amen

Porch Chatter

It's great to be back on the porch with Patrice and Wendell.

It's fun to answer question's they give each week.  I noticed today that Wendell wants to know about carrot cake!  I think he would really like carrots and sugar cubes!

This weeks questions:

What was your biggest fear as a child?

I was/am so afraid of the dark!  I have 2 older brothers and their goal in life was to scare little sister ~ that would be ME  !!   They were always jumping out of closets or making weird sounds after the lights were out at night...they were awful !!  Little did they know they scarred me for life, those dirty dogs. I am a great grandmother and I still have to have a nite light.

Who taught you to cook?

My mother taught me to cook, she was awesome in the kitchen.  I'm not really into cooking, I have other things that interest me more.  I did cook for my family and I love home cooking, but mostly when someone else is doing the cooking!

Do you have a lot of books in your home?

I love books!  I had several big bookcases full, when we downsized into our new home I gave most of them to my daughter.  Oh, how I miss those books!  I did manage to keep my favorites and I have added more since our move.  I love to read, I love the feel of a book.  When I can, I buy the hardback instead of softcover, a little more expensive but so well worth it to me.

Do you like carrot cake? Patrice says frosting is good on top. If you like that cake, what kind of frosting do you like best? On top? Hmm. I guess you wear it like a hat.

Wendell, I love carrot cake.  My SIL who passed away several years ago could bake the best carrot cake ever.  I miss her so much and Christmas just isn't the same without her carrot cake.  She used cream cheese frosting, I think that's my favorite!

What's did the last funny t-shirt you read say? (It doesn't have to reflect your personal feeling about the topic, just be funny and family friendly.)

I tried so hard to remember a funny t-shirt, for the life of me I can't think of one.  I found this one on yahoo images and it made me feel good so I'm sharing with all of you!

As always I've had great fun chatting on the porch.
Thanks Patrice and Wendell!

Until Next Time

Hello Monday!

When I took Bitsy out this morning it actually felt nice.  Not too hot and the humidity didn't seem to be so bad, so I sat down on the swing for a few minutes.

As the sun kept rising it didn't take long for the heat to get uncomfortable.
I am so looking forward to cooler days!

C'mon Bitsy, let's go back inside and enjoy the A/C !!

Serenity = Peace

Serenity = Peacefulness = Peace = My special word for 2012

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Amen

Through uttering these words, we are acknowledging God's existence and recognizing that He is truly the only one who can bring us inner peace regardless of chaotic circumstances.  His wonderful presence in our lives brings 'serenity' = 'peace' that can be found nowhere else.  There is a Bible verse that says the peace of God is beyond all human understanding.

"and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:7

When we allow the 'peace of God' to enter into our mind, heart, and soul, we will experience the ultimate peace that defies the most severe circumstances in our life.

The prayer speaks of accepting, courage, and wisdom.  It all comes down to asking and allowing God to give us these things.  We must surrender to Him.  Our trust needs to be in God that He will work things out, we must recognize that we don't have any real control over our hardships in this sinful world.  Trust Him and live one day at a time, enjoying each moment.

Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you.  Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I carry is light.
Matthew 11:29-30

Mr D and I have traveled many rough roads and only by God's grace have we survived the many trials that have come our way.  I have prayed the Serenity Prayer many, many times.  I carry it in my wallet and I have it on my desk where I can reflect on it daily.
We serve an Awesome God!

May the Lord Bless each of you with His Peace that is beyond all understanding.
