We are certainly enjoying the cooler weather and football season. Sunday afternoon I made some Texas Brownies to enjoy while watching the Texans defeat the Titans! WooHoo !
Found this recipe on Pinterest and because they are 'Texas' brownies I just had to try them.
Texas Brownies
2 c flour......1/2 c buttermilk
2 c sugar ........2 eggs
1/2 c butter......1/4 c dark cocoa
1/2 c shortening......1 tsp baking soda
1 c strong coffee or water......1 tsp vanilla
(I used coffee and I put in 2 tsp vanilla)
In large mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. In heavy saucepan, combine butter, shortening, coffee and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over flour and sugar in bowl. Add the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix well, using wooden spoon or high speed on electric mixer. Pour into well buttered 17x11 inch pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. While brownies bake, prepare frosting.
1/2 c butter......2 tbsp dark cocoa
1/4 c milk......3 1/2 c powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla....(I used 2 tsp)
In saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa, and milk. Heat to boiling, stirring. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until frosting is smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven.
Cool. Cut into 48 bars
They were so yummy and very, very rich!
