Luke 2:8-12

Glory in the Highest

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And [a]behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

Hark! the herald angels sing,
  “Glory to the new-born King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild;
  God and sinners reconciled.”
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
  Join the triumph of the skies;
With angelic hosts proclaim,
  “Christ is born in Bethlehem.”

Monday Coffee Talk

It's a cold morning for us here on the Texas coast, 34*, yet it's beautiful outside with sunny skies!!

I'm sitting here at the table in front of the big window with the oven on for some extra heat and my little fireplace is going too!

Peggy and Matt stopped by for a visit yesterday. While Matt helped Mr. D move a desk out of his Man Cave, Peggy filled me in on the plans for our family Christmas party on Sunday. She’s hosting this year, and she has all kinds of wonderful ideas to make sure everyone enjoys themselves—games, music, good food, and plenty of fellowship. I’m really looking forward to all the festivities.

“The Purpose of Christmas.”

Something to always remember . . .

‘You may have never realized that every time you check your calendar or refer to a date or write one down, you are using Jesus Christ as your reference point. Because of Jesus, history is divided into BC (before Christ) and AD (anno Domini, in the year of the Lord). Every other event in history and every event on your calendar today is dated by how many days and years it has been since Jesus appeared on earth.

Even your birthday is dated by His birthday!!

Christmas Blessings to All

Until Next Time

  1. Your home looks so cheery and Christmasy! How wonderful to be looking forward to your Christmas Party coming up on Sunday,
    We've got temps in the teens in the morning here in Tennessee but it's sunny too which makes it feel a bit warmer. At least, that's what I'm telling myself! Have a blessed week.

  3. It's been chilly here in Alabama, too. Paired with a strong cup of coffee, aren't our faux fireplaces the best?!
    I'm not familiar with Rick Warren but really enjoyed that "Purpose of Christmas" excerpt. Thank you!

  5. It has been quite chilly and windy here today, and the warmth of the heater feels so good, and also this cup of hot Christmas tea I am currently drinking while I write to you. I am happy you will have a family Christmas party this weekend. It sounds wonderful. It's so nice your family is close by and can all get together for events/holidays., and especially nice that your family does the planning and cooking, etc., and all you have to do is show up! Yay! That would be my favorite thing, but that never happens here. If I don't plan and cook it doesn't happen, unless we go out to eat. LOL. I love what Rick Warren wrote about the purpose of Christmas, at least that excerpt. I've never read the whole book. Yes, for all the naysayers, they should think about these things that are all scheduled because of Jesus's birth and death. His life has affected all of civilization whether they choose to acknowledge it or not! I hope they will. Stay warm and cozy, and thank you for sharing the verses every day. It's made this Advent season extra special.
