A Week of Gratitude, Comfort, and Tender Moments
Last Tuesday found Mr. D
and me at the eye doctor, and I’m happy to say the visit went better than I
expected. I had been a little worried, but the doctor assured me my trouble was
simply eye strain from too much computer time. Imagine that. A gentle reminder
to step away from the screen now and then. We both ended up getting new
glasses, so we’ll be seeing the world a bit clearer soon.
Yesterday was another
important appointment—Mr. D’s regular chemical stress test. Those days always
carry a little weight, but everything went smoothly, and for that I am deeply
thankful. God is good, and peace settles in a little deeper when these routine
checkups bring good news.
When we were on our way
home we pulled into Denney’s and enjoyed a very late breakfast.
Tuesday evening brought a different kind of blessing. Maegan surprised us with supper: a tender pot roast and a warm loaf of her homemade bread. Mercy, it was delicious.
Our weather has finally
settled back into what I call “normal for us”—cool but not freezing, crisp
enough to feel refreshing. We even turned the AC on for a little while Tuesday
evening. Only in our part of the world can you go from sweaters to air conditioning
in the same day. It made me smile.
But the week also held a
tender sadness. Tammy and Bo’s little Lucy Dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge on
Monday. Fourteen years is a long time to love a little companion, and her
health had been declining. Still, letting go is never easy. My heart aches for
them. Pets have a way of weaving themselves into the fabric of our days, and
their absence leaves a quiet space behind.
Through it all—appointments, good meals, shifting weather, and moments of both joy and sorrow—I’m reminded how precious ordinary days really are. They come wrapped in small gifts: good reports, shared food, cool breezes, and the comfort of knowing we’re held by a faithful God in every season.

Oh, my heart aches for you all on the loss of lil Lucy! There's no pain quite so exquisite; I know you and Mr. D well remember your own fur babies. That pot roast supper looks so tasty; what a thoughtful girl you've got there!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am sorry about sweet Lucy. She looks like she was a very sweet companion...14 years! Yes everyone will miss her!!! Oh, that pot roast dinner and the warm homemade bread sounds SO good!! And looks good too! And how wonderful your eye appointment went well and no major problems. Just take more breaks from the computer and/or reading. We are hoping for some warmer days again, and yes, our AC was on the other afternoon also, but we were back to freezing this morning and had ice on the windshield!!! Crazy stuff!!! But we know spring and summer is coming. We may miss these chilly days later this summer! Take care and stay safe and warm and happy. But big (((HUGS))) in memory of Lucy.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your family's loss of sweet Lucy. Yes, our pets are family members, for sure, and their loss is felt deeply. Happy for good doctor reports for you both! You are so right about each day being so special. We do need to stop and pay attention more often!! Happy weekend!
