Luke 2:1-5
2 And it came to pass in
those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that
all the world should be registered. 2 This census
first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So
all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. 4 Joseph
also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the
city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and
lineage of David, 5 to be registered with
Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
*
The decree for a census
was significant as it required everyone to return to their ancestral towns for
registration. This was a common practice in the Roman Empire to ensure accurate
tax collection and military conscription. The journey to Bethlehem fulfills the
prophecy from Micah 5:2, which states that the Messiah would be born in
Bethlehem. This emphasizes the divine orchestration behind the events leading
to Jesus' birth. The text illustrates the humble circumstances surrounding
Jesus' birth, as Mary was pregnant and they traveled to Bethlehem, highlighting
their obedience and faith amidst challenging conditions. The phrase "all
the world" refers to the Roman Empire, indicating the vast reach of
Augustus’ decree and the importance of this event in the context of Roman
authority. This passage sets the stage for the nativity story, emphasizing both
the historical and theological significance of Jesus' birth.
No better way to start a Saturday morning than
with some toast slathered with apple cinnamon jelly!
A few years ago, we received a gift box of Knott’s
Berry Farm jellies. One of the flavors was Apple Cinnamon, and oh my—it was so
good I polished off the entire jar. After Christmas that year, I searched the
stores high and low, but it was nowhere to be found in any brand. {{sigh}} Year
after year, it remained elusive.
Since I can’t go out shopping these days, the
thought finally struck me: Amazon! Off I went, hopeful, and sure enough,
several brands popped up. But Knott’s Berry Farm? Sold out. Bah humbug.
Still determined, I ordered Mrs. Miller’s Apple
Cinnamon. It’s tasty, but for me, it just doesn’t have quite enough cinnamon.
So my journey continues—I’ll keep trying different brands until I finally
reunite with that perfect Knott’s Berry Farm jar.
Christmas Blessings to All
Until Next Time

Dear Mary, lovely photos. I love ❤️ apple 🍎 jelly and use it all the time on my toast. I have never tried apple cinnamon jelly, though.
ReplyDeleteUmm on the jelly. Wishing you a very happy rest of this Saturday, smiles.
ReplyDeleteThat's supposed to be YUM...not umm..sigh.
DeleteLike those hanging stockings!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to look for that jelly at Publix!
ReplyDeleteCinnamon Apple jelly sounds good. I've never had it. I prefer apple butter to jelly, but that still sounds good. Love the history behind the verses regarding Bethlehem. Thank you for sharing the whole story. Such a marvelous story and fulfillment of prophecy! Thank you for doing this every day. It's been very meaningful.
