Tuesday 4

Your Jobs

Hello!  It's time again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 hosted by Annie.

Just click HERE to join in the fun.

This week's idea for questions came from Pamela Steiner and it's all about your occupation and work.

1.What did/do you do for work and how long did you work in that position?

I went to work at our local bank in 1967 as a check filer, I retired in 1996 as an AVP of that same bank.

2. Of the jobs you've had throughout life, which was your favorite?   If no favorite, which was the worst? Tell us why you loved/hated your job.

When I was in my teens I worked the refreshment counter at the show, cinema these days.  I loved that job because all the high school kids would be there at one time or another, a real social job and so much fun.

3. What did your job entail?  Did it require a special education?

My job at the bank did not require any special education, it was an in-house learning position.  As the years went by, I attended a lot of seminars held at one of the large banks in Houston.

4.  List all the jobs/occupations you have had.

1.  Soda jerk Sylvan Drug Store (summer job)

I worked the summer of 1961, it’s where I met Mr D.

2.  Refeshment Counter at La Porte Theater

(summer job 1962)

3.  The local newspaper for a very short time.

4.  The office at Perry Bros. Dime Store

5.  La Porte State Bank, which had several names during my employment there.

6.   Part time office clerk to manager at Spencer Mini Storage.

2000 – 2011, I left for a couple of years then went back.

During all those years I also had a full time job as a mother, wife, housekeeper and the family taxi driver.

Not every closed door is a rejection, some are God’s protection.

Until Next Time

  1. How wonderful that you were able to stay at the same bank all those years and move up the ladder! I can imagine that you met lots of people in your community and that there was never a dull moment. And yes, being a mom and family "taxi driver" on top of working full time made for a very busy and full life! I love that you started out as a "soda jerk". My mother did that when she was in high school too and remembered those days fondly! I bet it was a fun job! Thanks for participating. This was all very interesting!

  2. I really enjoyed this post, Mary. And the sentence at the end of your post about closed doors is so true.

  3. Enjoyable to read about everyone's jobs. I don't have a very long resume.

  6. Isn't it curious, how what we actually wound up doing for a living bore little resemblance to our childhood dreams? I'm thinking those last "jobs" were the most rewarding.
I love that quote about closed doors!

  8. I love the fact that we're almost exactly the same age, both worked at banks in our younger days, and we even share a name!!!

  11. I started out at 14 working at the airport cafe until I turned 15 and was old enough to go to the nursing home as an aide. I did that full time 3-11 all through high school and I loved that job SO much. I helped care for the most interesting people and I loved "almost" all of them dearly. I married at 18 and stayed home for a few years doing day care off and on when friends would ask me. During those years I also worked as a manager at a dry cleaner because I could take baby Mandy with me. When she got older I job shared with my dear Mom-in-law who eventually took over the job and I stayed home full time and did day care for all of the kids from church. I had a houseful every day! After our move to Spokane, I worked as an administrative assistant and then as a bookkeeper/account manager for my last 17 years in the workplace. I "retired" at 51 and have loved being home ever since.
My favorite job outside of my home daycare was at the nursing home but would never go back when I was offered jobs there again because of abuse I witnessed. I couldn't stand that and I couldn't do anything about it. But I also said that I would be part of that system any longer.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy
