Wednesday's Wisdom

Matthew 5:42
Give to those who ask, and don't turn away from those who want to borrow.

A generous heart is an unselfish heart, which is what Jesus encourages.  Don't hold on to your possessions as though they are more important than people.  Be generous to all, and do not worry about being repaid.

A sure way to be joyful is to be generous.  Instead of worrying about what you can get, enjoy giving all you can give.

Acts 20:35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”

Life can be an incredibly beautiful and wonderful experience.  Your generosity magnifies that beauty and wonder many times over.

Generosity is not merely a matter of material offerings.  Real and meaningful generosity is giving of yourself.

Proverbs 11:24 One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.

Give your love, your attention, your compassion, your interest, and genuine caring.  Give your time, your understanding, and positive presence to those around you.

Live each day with a generous heart.  Make life's abundance even more abundant by giving the best that you have.

No man is more cheated than the selfish man.
Henry Ward Beecher

It is my deepest prayer that I may have a giving and loving heart. That sounds like an easy thing to accomplish, but it's harder than it seems.  Not because of being non-generous or non-loving, but because I/we let life get in our way.  Always busy with too much to do, the common excuse ~  I'll get to it, I'll visit my shut-in friend soon, I'll make that offering next week....without action they are just empty words.  Good intentions, but does that really count?
I don't think so.

2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Striving daily to be cheerful and not reluctant,
not to be filled with good intentions,
but with good actions!

Until Next Time

  4. Thinking and doing for others should be our #1 but at times, we let our Lord and ourselves down by thinking of 'me' first. I pray to work on this and thank you for the encouragement.
    God bless you today.

  5. What a wonderful and wise post, Mary. God has done so much for me that it is hard to not want to give back through doing for others. And, you are so right, true generosity isn't about giving material things, but of giving ourselves. Love that!

  7. Wow! This was jam packed with good stuff...all things I need to remember and practice. Thank you for sharing this with us. It's making me stop and think and take inventory of m own heart and generosity or lack thereof. It is an area that I need to work on. I know we can never outgive our Lord...and thank goodness He doesn't really expect us to! We just need to be faithful with what He has given us, and He will guide us to do what is right. God bless you my friend.
