Just for Fun

Back in Time

I remember them all, how about you?

Some things on the list brought back some precious memories.

I remember Momma.  When I was just a little thing Momma washed our clothes in a wringer washing machine.  She had three big washtubs, each filled with rinse water....one had bluing in it.  Who remembers bluing?  At that time I was barely tall enough to dangle my arms in the cool water.  I loved doing that, simple entertainment that kept me busy while Momma washed our clothes. I can remember her warning me to stay away from the wringer because it could eat my arm. lol

What Is Laundry Bluing?

This Vintage Method Is Key to Brighter Whites

Laundry bluing is a product that is used to restore white laundry and linens. It works by counteracting yellowing, which in turn makes your dingy whites look bright white again.

You can still purchase bluing today.

Until Next Time

  1. I remember 13 of those ... yes, sweet memories! My grandmother had a wringer washer I was captivated by. Unfortunately, I was too lazy to offer to help. (Or maybe that's "fortunately"?) Our elders sure labored hard, but I don't remember them ever complaining.

  2. I remember all of them! And we had a wringer washer when we still lived on the farm in PA. My brother got his arm caught in it once, but I don't know how badly he was hurt. I was too little to know, but I remember hearing about it later. I used to be a "Fuller Brush Man" (woman). I was actually a district supervisor in western Ohio for a while! I also used to sell Stanley Home Products and Watkins products. Oh, and Encyclopedia Brittanica for a very short time. These were little jobs I did while hubby was going to Seminary, and I could work my schedule around his so he could watch the kids. The Fuller Brush job was the only one where I actually made any money as I was put on a kind of a salary, but it was a lot of work and travel, and I think I only did it for about 6 months. Those were the days my friend... Thanks for the memories!
