I’m Lovin’ the Rut I’m In
My Cozy Rut
Living life day by day can
easily turn into what some might call a rut—and most people tend to talk
about that as a bad thing. But after taking a good, honest look at my own life,
I’ve come to a different conclusion: I like my rut!
I have a peaceful daily
routine, one I’ve chosen for myself, filled with things I enjoy. Every morning
begins with a thankful heart and a hot cup of coffee. I scroll through social
media to catch up with friends, then take a quick glance at the news—not for
too long, though. It’s rarely good, but I believe it’s important to stay aware
of what’s going on in the world, even if I don’t dwell there.
Then comes a little fun—The
Price is Right, the local news, and Jeopardy! all have their spot in
my day. Lunchtime follows, either at home or out and about, depending on the
mood. My afternoons are quiet and lovely, often spent watching a movie, reading
a good book, or working on projects like diamond art or jigsaw puzzles.
Mr. D and I share our
afternoon coffee and, if the weather cooperates, we enjoy some time outside
together. Evenings are calm—we settle into our favorite chairs, each with our
own computer. I love watching Bible prophecy, Bible studies, sermons from
pastors who feed my spirit. Prayer is a thread that runs through it all,
keeping my heart anchored in peace. Before long, it’s bedtime again. I fall
asleep feeling thankful and blessed, ready to begin a brand-new day.
Of course, the routine
gets shaken up from time to time—visits from the girls, a ride around town,
doctor appointments, or those special phone calls from family and friends.
Those are sweet interruptions I welcome with open arms.
Ode To My Rut
Our granddaughter Tara (Tracey and Scott’s daughter) is beginning a brand new
chapter! This Saturday, she’ll be moving four hours north as she begins her
master’s program at North Texas. We are so proud of her!
She has been sharing her
love of ceramics by teaching at several places around the Houston and Clear
Lake area. Her dream is to one day teach at the collegiate level—hopefully even
at the University of Houston, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.
While we’ll certainly miss
having her nearby, our hearts are full of pride and excitement for all that
lies ahead for her.
Go get 'em, Tara!
I mentioned above about
how bad the news can be, but!!! I heard
something good this morning. Florist
across Texas are coming together to provide funeral flowers free to all the
victoms of the floods on the 4th.
I say HooRay for them.
It's still hot and humid,
after all it is summer. C’mon fall.
We’re still not able to
sit on the porch. BooHiss
Our electric bill is too high, {{sigh}}. I’m not turning the a/c down, so I’ll {{sigh}} again.
Blessings to All
Until Next Time

DeleteMary, I like my 'rut' too!! LOL I've had a wonderful two-week get-away with dear friends, but my "happy place" feels real good right here at home! Sending a hug your way! xo
ReplyDeleteSeems I'm anonymous today, grrrr. Welcome home, I'm so glad to hear you had a great time♥ I caught that ((hug))♥
DeleteI love my own rut, too! There's sure something extraordinary in the ordinary.
ReplyDeleteA rut is a nice sfe place to have! My days vary very little now.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! I enjoyed reading your post today. I have not heard the expression boo hiss. It made me laugh. The word hiss makes me think of a snake. That is nice that the florist will donate flowers for the victims of the flood. I have had a few days where I felt restless. Then I will go back to my crafting/Bible journaling. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Mary. My life is very similar to yours and I am very grateful 🙏 for the peace and tranquility. Thank 😊 you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSounds like lovely peaceful days.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to call her days 'her comfortable rut' :)
Those sound like wonderful things to me. Although Hubby loves to travel, and I'm okay with it, I could easily spend all of my days happily at home with my Bible, yarn and books.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
