Monday Coffee Talk

Here I am, settled at the table by the BIG window, soaking in the sunshine on this beautiful day. The light spills across the room like a gentle invitation to pause and enjoy.

Mr. D and his good buddy Arnold headed into downtown Houston to take care of some business. I’m mighty glad it’s them and not me—Houston traffic feels like a race, and if you’re not sprinting, someone’s liable to run you over. Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic… but not by much!

Yesterday, Mr. D took a tumble. Thankfully, he escaped with just a sore knee. We both have to be extra careful these days. Still, he didn’t let it slow him down—he installed a new kitchen faucet and painted our mailbox post. The post was just plain treated lumber, and I thought it would look better painted black. So he painted it black. And I was right—our mailbox looks downright sharp now. Lol!

Our mailbox post all dressed in black.

Love my new faucet!!

Tammy and Bo (short for Robert) stopped by for a visit and brought us some leftover chicken and dumplings. Supper turned into a feast—we absolutely pigged out.🐷🐷🐷
They were delicious, the kind of comfort food that makes you feel hugged from the inside out.

A family is like a circle.
The connection never ends,
and even if at times it breaks,
in time it always mends.
Nicole M. O'Neil.

This precious memory came up on facebook today.  Mr D with Buddy Boy and Bitsy Baby, both have since crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.  They are missed.

Maegan, Louis and Merica at the deer lease!

Merica's behind the wheel again ☺
I love seeing family having a good time♥

TRIVIA TIME:

On this date in 1969, Sesame Street premiered on PBS.

On this date in 1871, Henry Morton Stanley, encounters David Livingstone at Ujiji near Lake Tanganyika in Central Africa with the immortal words, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?"

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24

It’s a gentle reminder to savor the beauty of ordinary moments—sunlight through the window, a freshly painted mailbox, shared meals, and the company of loved ones. Even with sore knees and busy days, there’s joy to be found.

Standing on the promises of Christ, my King!
Thro' eternal ages let His praises ring;
"Glory in the highest!" I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Until Next Time

  3. Standing, Standing, Standing on the Promises of Christ my Saviour.
I do love that song too! Your post was a wonderful uplifting start to my day. I pray Mr. D's knee will soon be good as new. I remember driving through Houston several times on our way too and from Galveston for our cruise. We also picked up and dropped off our friends at the airport. That traffic is indeed, something else. Scary fast but it''s the same here in Omaha. People seem very impatient these days.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Dear Mary, what a lovely post and beautiful photos. Patience is sadly something that is not seen as much today as when I was younger. We have instant banking, and although the technology can be very helpful, it doesn't give people the opportunity to learn how to wait and to be patient.
    God bless you.

  5. Oh, I enjoyed this "coffee talk time" with you, and I'm drinking my cup of tea while I visit! Loved seeing Merica with her family, and her driving that vehicle! That is funny...as long as everyone is safe! Wow! She looks so happy! Sorry about the tumble for Mr. D an the sore knee...that's no fun, but thankfully it wasn't worse! I love the new black mailbox post and that new kitchen faucet is beautiful!!! I love that dark bronze style so much. Oh, the picture of Mr. D holding your sweet fur babies is so bittersweet. I can imagine how much you must miss them. Our grandpuppies were here yesterday with their parents, and they are such sweet doggies. I know we'd all be so sad if they were gone. I'm getting quite attached to my kitties too, even though they are still porch kitties. They are so sweet.
I enjoyed our visit, and I hope you have a lovely week. It's going to be freezing here in the morning...

  6. "Hugged from the inside out" ... I love that thought!
Offhand, I can think of thousands of things I'd rather do than (try and) drive in downtown Houston. Big cities used to excite me, but now I'm just plain intimidated. Mr. D did a great job on that mailbox!

  8. Here in the UK I woke up to heavy rain but thankfully it cleared as the day went on.
Sorry to read that Mr D had a fall, pleased he wasn't badly hurt.
Take care and have a good week.

    All the best Jan

PS I enjoyed seeing your photographs

  9. Standing on the promises of God. Amen!! Your mailbox post looks great and that new faucet looks amazing! As we get older, we do need to be mindful of where we place our feet... I'm speaking from much experience! Glad Mr. D wasn't hurt to bad when he fell. Praise God.

  10. Always standing on the promises! Thanks for that reminder :) I'm glad Mr. D was ok and he managed to still get things done. Both look very nice! And you're so right about Houston traffic. My husband goes over once a week and home through Galveston, which is much more pleasant. Every now and then the kids will go to Houston to eat or shop and I hold my breath until they text me and say they're home. Have a wonderful week Mary! Always a blessing to visit you here :)

  11. Oh My! Mr. D was fortunate not to be badly hurt when he fell. The mailbox looks great ( and I'm thinking that ours also needs a paint job). Sometimes jobs that really are not a big deal can make quite an impact!
