Monday Coffee Talk

We were so surprised last Thursday evening when we received a notice that our glasses were ready. They had originally told us the 11th, so that quick turnaround felt like a little gift. We picked them up Friday, and I’m really pleased with mine. Mr. D feels the same about his.

We also did a bit of rearranging in our bedroom, and now I finally have space for a new bookcase. It’s already ordered and should arrive by the end of the week. I’m excited—goodness knows I can use the extra storage.

In my chronological Bible reading with Peggy and Tammy, we’ve reached the book of Job. I’ve read Job several times, yet I’m still learning from him. The girls have shared such thoughtful insights along the way. I’m amazed at their grasp of God’s Word and grateful for how much I’m learning from them. What a blessing this shared journey has become.

The morning we went to the eye doctor, I did something I rarely do—I took a selfie.

It was the first time since Christmas I dressed to go out, so I figured the moment deserved a picture. A little laugh at myself included. And speaking of pictures, friends on Facebook have been posting those ChatGPT‑generated caricatures of themselves. They’re so cute that I decided to join in the fun.

This afternoon I’ve been craving a good meat loaf, so I’m planning to get one made. Since it doesn’t require stovetop cooking, I’ll be fine. When it’s time to put it in the oven, I’ll either slip my oxygen off for a moment or let Mr. D handle it if he’s nearby. He’ll also take care of the sides—easy‑peasy for him. I’m thinking mashed potatoes and green beans with iced sweet tea. That sounds mighty good. To make things easier, the mashed potatoes will be the frozen ones from Bob Evans—just a few minutes in the microwave and they’re perfect, and we love them.

We have more doctor visits this week. I see my pulmonologist, and Mr. D goes back to the heart doctor.

And life goes on—quiet, steady, and blessed.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.” — Psalm 28:7

May your week be filled with small joys, gentle moments, and the steady kindness of God’s care.

Until Next Time

  4. What a fun caricature, Mary. All the same, I'm loving the 'real' selfie. That blouse is so pretty!
Meatloaf is one of my favorite dishes. Our fav pub features it regularly, so I've not made it this year ... yet.
What would we do without our friendly pulmonologists and cardiologists? I hope your visits are both the thumb's up kind.

  5. I LOVE your green top, Mary! Nice selfie! And your ChatGPT caricature is so fun!! Several people have talked about meatloaf recently and now I think I need to thaw out some hamburger and pork and get one in the oven! Green beans and mashed potatoes are the perfect complement! Wishing you both good doctor reports and hooray for the new glasses!! Blessings!!

    1. Upload a photo to chat gpt and then prompt it to make a caricature.

  7. Love your selfie! I know what you mean about dressing to go out. I've been homebound from the snow and cold that it feels like a special occasion to dress in something other than sweats and go out!
Meat loaf sounds like a good idea. Now I'm hungry for it!

  8. So much to love about this post. First, that is a lovely photo of you and so is the chat photo. I'm also in Job in my chronological Bible reading plan. Maybe we're doing the same one? We went to Cheddar's restaurant after church on Sunday for my last "real" meal before surgery this morning. (No food yesterday at all.) Dennis got the meatloaf which he loves. He's says theirs is the closest to my homemade.
I hope your Tuesday has been wonderful.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
