It's brrrrrr cold on the porch this morning even tho the sun is shining bright.  I had to encourage Bitsy to go out, she didn't like the blast of cold air that greeted her when I opened the door.

We are huddled in with no plans of getting out.  Mr D went for gumbo from our favorite gumbo place and brought enough for two days.  It's great on cold days like we're having, it warms you up.

I've been working on my latest diamond art pattern; I find it so enjoyable.

The mail brought a new book from guidepost that I think I'll enjoy.  I like easy reading where I don't have to concentrate too much.  These little mysteries are perfect.

Digging Up Secrets

When veterinarian Harriet Bailey's grandfather passes away, she accepts his bequest and follows her heart - with God's guidance - across the ocean to the charming town of White Church Bay in Yorkshire, England.  Old Doc Bailey left Harriet not only a sprawling historic estate but also the Cobble Hill Farm Vet Clinic in the hope that she would continue his legacy.

I finished chapter one last night, and this author has managed to introduce the characters and the estate to her readers.  She also introduced the mystery dug up by one of the dogs being boarded at the clinic.  Anxious to see what chapter two brings.

Wednesday Wisdom

Standing On The Promises

1 Standing on the promises of Christ, my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.

2 Standing on the promises that cannot fail.
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

3 Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love's strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit's sword,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

4 Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List'ning ev'ry moment to the Spirit's call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Such a beautiful hymn, a reminder that we have a God who takes care of us.  It was written by Russell Kelso Carter who was a professor in the Pennsylvania Military College of Chester. While there he was licensed to preach by the Methodist Episcopal Church. He became very active in leading camp meetings and revivals. After failing health forced him to abandon this work, he studied and became a medical doctor as well as a writer. He wrote novels as well as hymns

Mr D and I are still dragging, but not too bad.  I think we're going to be just fine in due time.  Takes our old tattered bodies a little longer to heal these days. We'll just be standing on the promises of our God!

Blessings to All

Until Next Time

  2. Your gumbo sounds pretty wonderful right about now! Despite what the thermostat reads, that biting winds just cuts one to the bone.
I so love this song, but didn't know the backstory. Have you heard Sean Dietrich (seanofthesouth) and his little sister doing it?

  5. I was singing along with that wonderful hymn. Would you believe that I've never had gumbo? I've been to Texas, but other than that the furthest south and east I've been is Missouri, (except flying through Atlanta). I haven't had much exposure to southern foods but I've heard they're delicious. We were finally above 0F for our low this morning and it's supposed to warm up to the teens for the lows as the week progresses.
Take care and stay inside and continue to get better my friend.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  6. I had to look up Gumbo to see what it was made of. I discovered that it is imperative that you use a wooden spoon and a wooden bowl when you eat it. So...did you? :))))
