A tradition at our house is making
Brown Sugar Chews.
I got the recipe from my mother and I don't know where she got it or when. Seems like there has always been Brown Sugar Chews at Christmas.
Recipe:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sifted flour
1 egg
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp soda
Mix together brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Add flour a little at a time along with salt and soda. The batter is very stiff. Add pecans. Spread in well greased 8" square pan (I use PAM) and bake for 18-20 minutes at 350.
Cool for a few minutes in pan and then cut into squares and remove to wax paper to completely cool.
YUMMY !
I made 4 batches, one for each daughter and her family and one for me and Mr. D!
Until Next Time
Family traditions are wonderful!
Merry Christmas dear Mary.
