Glory to God in the Highest

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them (the shepherds), and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
Luke 2:9

Before the shepherds had time to wonder or to question or to doubt...
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God....
Luke 2:13

God clearly loves to do the unexpected, reinforcing His authority and demonstrating His power.  First He sent one angelic messenger.  Then "suddenly"  (in a flash) reinforcements arrived.
The hills of Bethlehem were filled with a vast army, "a multitude of heavenly host" ~ Can you imagine...thousands of angels singing...
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men."
Luke 2:14
God's heavenly army bringing the news of peace!  As Matthew Henry so eloquently put it,
"All the good we have, or hope is owing to God's good-will; and, if we have the comfort of it, He must have the glory of it."

As I was writing this post I was thinking about that night so long ago.  The night sky filled with angels, each one singing praises to God.  How did that sound?  It had to be more beautiful than anything we've heard on this earth.  How loud was it?  Surely the volume of those beautiful voices would make you trimble.
Until Next Time
 Hark the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

  1. It is amazing to think about. Can you imagine being there, on that wondrous night?
Beautiful artwork to accompany your post!

  2. Our pastor's message Sunday night was all about angels. I can't even begin to imagine the sky that night! Wow!!! A taste of heaven! :)

  3. It's almost more than I can fathom reading. Enjoyed this so much! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
