On that day over 2000 years ago, when our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary, the lives of every future person who places their faith in Him was altered.
THE CROSS IS A CONSTANT REMINDER OF GOD’S GRACE
For by Grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
I'm once again taken back to the little Baptist church in Lomax singing the wonderful old hymns I love so much.
At The Cross
I'm once again taken back to the little Baptist church in Lomax singing the wonderful old hymns I love so much.
At The Cross
Alas and did my Savior bleed
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?
Was it for crimes that I have done
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity, grace unknown
And love beyond degree
At the cross, at the cross
Where I first saw the light
And the burden of my heart
Rolled away, rolled away
It was there by faith I received my sight
And now I am happy all the day
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity, grace unknown
And love beyond degree
At the cross, at the cross
Where I first saw the light
And the burden of my heart
Rolled away, rolled away
It was there by faith I received my sight
And now I am happy all the day
I've been on YouTube trying to find this song as we sang it in church. There are so many different recordings, most were too slow and in some the words had been changed. I was about ready to give up when I happened to find a recording from the Metro Atlanta Gospel Music Convention~2009......perfect! The lady playing the piano could certainly have been my mother-in-law many years ago.
This post is dedicated to my facebook friend Mary. She posted the words of At The Cross on her timeline and now I can't get them out of my mind. Thank you Mary, I love these words in my mind and in my heart.
Until Next Time
Always Placing My Faith in Him
I love gospel music and this one I had never heard before. I grew up in a Catholic environment and our songs just aren't like the gospel music. They are pretty but I like gospel better. Love your valentine table.
ReplyDeleteA very lovely cross, and never heard this before either. I also grew up Catholic but now attend a bible based church.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite hymns because it is a constant reminder of what He did for us. Thank you so much, Mary, for sharing the words here.
ReplyDeleteThank you God for the CROSS! I too love that song. I love all the old hymns. That is such a pretty cross too Miss Mary. Thanks for sharing. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteOh my friend....these words just bring such joy to my heart. Love that old hymn, too. Music is certainly in the air this week. Hope you have an awesomely blessed Thursday.
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely post. "At the Cross" is one of my favourite hymns...and I love the cross. Your blog header and background are gorgeous, reminds me of the Victorian era, which I love!
A stirring gospel song. I think I know this one. A melody popped into my head anyway!
ReplyDeleteThank you...
