Friday Foto Friends

I am a cold-weather lady, I love the cool temps of winter.  Because I live in the south snow and ice is rarely an issue, our winter is mostly cool temps.

Winter tree, barren of leaves and covered in frost,
Towering alone over that desolate hill,
Looking so pitiful and abandoned and lost:

And yet it gets cold enough for the plants to loose their leaves and stand stark in the winter skies.  This tree is so pretty in the spring and summer.  I love to sit on the porch and watch the birds flying in and out of the cover of leaves, obviously tending to their nest and babies!

He who marvels at the beauty of the world in summer will find equal cause for wonder and admiration in winter.

Rainy winter skies have been the norm lately.
So dreary.

The way I see it, if you want the rainbow,
you gotta put up with the rain.
Dolly Parton

I really enjoy rainy days if I don't have to get out.
Just let me snuggle up with a good book and it can rain all day!

"Memory is the power to gather roses in winter"....
Mary Engelbreit

I've been told the best time to prune rose bushes is on Valentine's Day.  I think I'll prune all my plants then.

These wintry pictures are the only thing I don't like about winter.  Everything is barren, no pretty leaves on the trees or blooms on the bush.  The good thing is, Spring will be here again soon.

Memories are like a patchwork quilt, each section is sewn together,
to be wrapped around us for comfort and warmth in the years to come.

One thing for sure, when the dreariness gets me down I just drive down the street and enjoy this colorful display.  The lady that lives here is a quilter!!  Are you surprised?!

Time to visit Deb again!

  1. Nice collection of photos and quotes - my favorite quote was Dolly Parton's words.

  2. I so enjoyed your views of winter, Mary! While our winters normally consist of lots of snow and ice, this winter we have had unseasonably warm temperatures...to the point that people begin complaining when it is in the 20's and 30's. I think we've been spoiled by these warmer days. The buds on our fruit trees are beginning to swell, the geese are back at the ponds...

I am like you...enjoying rainy days if I can stay inside with a pot of tea and a good book!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. I'm with you, Mary. I love a rainy day when I can be inside and read cozied up with a blanket. I like the Dolly quote. She's right. Happy Wednesday.

  7. Love your pictures. Rainy days can be blessings...I heard Franklin Graham say today that rain is a sign of God's blessing...so that is a good sign! Spring is on its way...we really haven't had much of a winter at all here in Florida, even for us! I just worry that winter will show up about the same time as the orange blossoms, etc., and that is not good. Love your pictures and your thoughts today. Thank you for your faithfulness in so many ways. Blessings to you!!

  9. The city I live in averages 174 days of rain a year ( and we get 60 " as a rule although last year I think we got more). Dreary days are good times to get cozy and read but too many in a row can be a drag.

  10. I don't mind colder temps but I need sunshine! Love the quilt sign. So pretty. I want to paint one to go on the side of our storage building. Thanks for sharing and linking up. Hope you have a great weekend....so glad you're feeling better!

  11. I love the colder temps of winter. Most of our foliage is of the tropical variety and so keep their leaves. Even with freezing temps, the leaves may wilt but are back later on. I love the quilt sign in that yard. So cheery!
