Sailboats

We were out and about and drove down to Shell Beach

A secluded little beach by the Houston Yacht Club.

She sat with me, along the river
On a bench made out of stone
We watched the sailboats on the water
Make circles around their home

Gliding easily along the surface
Turning in and out and in
What eluded me was the final purpose
Of turning out, out, then in

Sails are down, they must be anchored and enjoying the beautiful day.

The three-story stucco structure has been described at various times as Spanish Mission, Spanish Colonial Revival and Spanish Mediterranean.  In 1993, during reconstruction after a fire, several original features were restored in an effort to bring the ambiance of the past to the building.

HYC celebrated the 75th anniversary of this Galveston Bay landmark, affectionately dubbed the “Pink Palace,” on July 4, 2002.

Just a little trivia.
This beautiful building was where my high school prom was held and my daughter's wedding reception was also held there.   It's beautiful inside.

The pessimist complains about the wind;
the optimist expects it to change;
the realist adjusts the sails.

  4. What a peaceful place to visit. It's already Spring there with the sailboats out on the water and green grass! Enjoyed seeing a glimpse of Houston since I've never had the opportunity to go there.

  9. Okay, okay. I hear you. The wind is getting me down, but I will adjust my sails. :-) Your trip looks very nice and how cool that your daughter's wedding reception took place where you went to prom.
