Hello March

Source: Tea With Charlotte & Lucy Facebook Page

The March wind blows winter away
And sweeps the streets from day to day
March brings surprises, first the day’s hot
Then it starts snowing, likely as not
Hurry, March wind, hurry along
We like to hear you sing your song.

"The word 'March' comes from the Roman 'Martius'. This was originally the first month of the Roman calendar and was named after Mars, the god of war.  March was the beginning of our calendar year. We changed to the 'New Style' or 'Gregorian calendar in 1752, and it is only since then when we the year began on 1st January. The Anglo-Saxons called the month Hlyd monath which means Stormy month, or Hraed monath which means Rugged month.

March Lamb or Lion

When March comes in gently, with soft skies of blue
And warm happy breezes and crocus buds too
March begins like a lamb, sweet gentle and kind
But you’d better beware for you’ll surely find
That the end of the month will be stormy and cold
Like a lion it’ll roar, rough, growly and bold
If March begins windy, and stormy and gray,
If it’s too cold outside, to happily play
The lion’s here first, and he’s not so nice
You should be indoors take my advice
But wonderful weather is coming they say
By the end of the month the lamb’s here to stay.

Had a great time at GLOW yesterday.  We studied the 2nd chapter of Ruth and learned she was a very impressive woman.  She was generous, a hard worker, humble and thoughtful.  As we go forward in this study we'll learn how those character traits lead to blessings from God.

And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and yo
ur mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before.  The Lord repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”
Ruth 2:11-12

When I got home Mr D was ready to go for a ride...so I got right back in the car and off we went.  We just think of places to ride along the way, I was glad when Mr D stopped at Dairy Queen for us to have an ice cream cone!!  Have I ever mentioned how much we love ice cream!

Did you know that March starts on the same day of the week as November every year?
Guess it's true, it was on the internet!!!  lol

Until Next Time

  1. Good Morning! After very warm temps, we woke to 35 degrees today! Yikes!
Glad you enjoyed your GLOW group and the study of Ruth. John and I have been known to stop at Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone! On Saturdays, our DQ has chocolate soft serve and that is John's favorite! God bless your day. xoxo Mildred

  2. A Dairy Queen cone sounds wonderful. I especially like the chocolate dipped ones. So far, our March is pretty much lamb-like. Have a great day.

  4. I wonder if Boaz's kindness to Ruth was because of how similar her story was to his mother's. She came into the house of Israel too and married his father. (Rahab)

  5. Ruth was definitely blessed by God and is a good example for all us women today. We take those rides now and then and did so today, as it is so beautiful after the storm passed through yesterday. Yum on the ice cream cone.

  6. And we know that everything on the internet is true, right! I didn't know that March used to be the first Month on the calendar, so much info. Thanks Mary. I have always loved the story of Ruth.
    I love ice cream too.
Hope you're having a good day.

  7. Marching right along we are!! I love March...always a transitional month it seems...from winter to spring, flowers and green leaves budding on the trees...birds building nests...just a lot of good stuff going on! Yes, a great time to be alive and able to enjoy the beauty around us. I love the book of Ruth. I may suggest that to our ladies' group when we meet next week. We just meet once a month. Do you meet oftener? Are you following a specific study guide? I love ice cream too...just try not to eat it too often...but when warmer weather is here to stay, I keep the freezer stocked...

  10. What an interesting post! I love the tea wares in the top photo. Very suitable for March.

We will be happy when our seasonal ice cream places open up again. Then we'll really know it's spring.

In the 20s here today, and tomorrow's temps are predicted to be in the single numbers all day long!
