Hello 2023

I have all my Christmas packed up, stored and waiting for next year.  I didn't do a lot of decorating this year so putting it away was very quick and east.  Even though I am glad to have that chore done it always leaves me a little sad.  The Christmas Season is so special, so much warmth and love is in the air.  Why does that feeling seem to leave us?  After all, Christ is with us all year long, we don't need Christmas lights and decorations to know that.

At the sound of the tolling midnight bell a brand new year will begin.
Let's raise our hopes in a confident toast, to the promise it ushers in.

May your battles be few, your pleasures many, your wishes and dreams fulfilled.
May your confidence stand in the face of loss and give you the strength to rebuild.

May peace of heart fill all your days, may serenity grace your soul.
May tranquil moments bless your life and keep your spirit whole.

Let's talk New Year's Resolutions!  Do you make them?  I used to, I don't anymore because I never kept them. However, I do remember keeping one, the year was 2000.  I resolved to read the Bible from page 1 to the very last page of Revelation, and I did it.  The resolution that meant the most to me, I accomplished.

Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.
Helen Keller

We are having the traditional peas, cabbage, cornbread and iced sweet tea for dinner.   They, (whoever they are) say the peas are for good luck and the cabbage is for good finances, for me, it's just good eatin' and I plan to enjoy every bite!

Although our New Year’s resolutions may quickly crumble, God’s plans never fail.

We've gone from a bitterly cold Christmas to a very mild New Year's Day.  It's been nice enough for some porch sitting and we were out yesterday afternoon enjoying some fresh air and letting the dogbabies have some sunshine.  The flowers are pretty much gone, the severe freeze we had Christmas got all that were outside.  I did bring in a few of my pot plants to save them, they're still in the garage.  Hopefully Mr D will get them back on the porch soon, they need some of this good weather.

I previously stated that I don't make resolutions anymore, as I was searching for various quotes on New Years I found this, and it changed my mind.

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Paul the Apostle

This year I have a resolution, it's from Paul.

No Baby Time, this year I've made a very serious promise and I plan to fulfill it.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Until Next Time

  2. No resolutions here either. I am resolved though to overcome grief/depression over losing our son... ANYWAYS, wishing you a beautiful Happy New Year--oh I am making lasagna and putting the Christmas stuff away and it's supposed to be near 80* today.

  4. I no longer 'do' resolutions, but yours (Paul's) is a winner! We leave our tree up until the Epiphany. Even now, I'm dreading how empty the room will look devoid of its twinkling lights. Happy New Year to you and Mr. D!

  8. Our pastor preached from Philippians 3 today and that was a part of it. I don't make resolutions either, but my new One Word is "Listen"...listening for God's voice through His Word and in the things that happen around me. I know He has a lot to teach me and tell me, but I must pay attention and listen. So that is my goal and word for the year. May God help me to do just that. We will probably take our decorations down this week if I feel up to it. We are taking a trip over the weekend and I'd like to have it done before, but if not it will still be here when I get back so I'm not going to stress over it. I wish I could wave a magic wand and it would all be done. Yeah, it's kind of sad to put it away, but I also like the clean look afterwards. There's something good about starting out the New Year with a "clean slate" and an open heart. God bless you dear friend. I pray your New Year will be healthy and happy and blessed.

  9. Here we are at the start of a new year with all of these fresh clean days to fill. But then, isn't every day a fresh, clean day. I'm going to read all the way through the Bible again this year. My sweet Hubby has read it cover to cover seven times, just this past year! He's such a faithful man and sets a wonderful example for me.
I also want to do a LOT more charity knitting. As our family grows, family making seems to take precedence.
    Happy New Year!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
