1849
Elizabeth Blackwell graduates from medical school in New York, becoming the first female doctor in the U.S.
 

1870
As a cartoonist for Harper's Weekly magazine, Thomas Nast is the first to use a donkey to symbolize the Democratic Party.  A few years later, he would use an elephant to represent the Republican Party.
 
*1952
The "Today Show" premieres on NBC with hosts Dave Garroway and Jack Lescoulie.

1987
Singer Aretha Franklin, known as the Queen of Soul, is the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I was only 7 years old when the Today Show came on the air.  My momma had it on every morning as I was getting ready for school.  Even at that young age I loved the show because of ......

Mr. Muggs was on the show every morning.  It was fun watching his antics and interactions with the host, Dave Garraway.

 
I loved this little chimp and haven't thought about him in years.

~ 1847 ~
Under the pen name Currer Bell, author Charlotte Bronte's novel "Jane Eyre" is published.
 
~ 1863 ~
President Abraham Lincoln declares Thanksgiving an official U.S. holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday of November.
 
~ 1908 ~
(the year my Daddy was born)
Henry Ford introduces the Ford Model T automobile, priced at $850.


 
 
~ 1927 ~
Workers begin sculpting the likenesses of four American presidents onto a mountain face in South Dakota.  Mount Rushmore would be completed in 1939.
 
~ 1947 ~
Harry Truman delivers the first televised presidential address from the White House.  His topic is food conservation.
 
~ 1953 ~
The New York Yankees defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers and win their fifth consecutive World Series, a feat no Major League Baseball team had ever achieved.


 
 
~ 1962 ~
Johnny Carson takes the reins from Jack Paar as host of "The Tonight Show."  Carson went on to lead the late-night program for the next 30 years.

~ 1971 ~
Walt Disney's second theme park, Walt Disney World, opens near Orlando, Florida.
 
~ 1998 ~
At age 77, John Glenn returns to space aboard the shuttle Discovery, nearly 40 years after becoming the first American to orbit the earth.
 
~ 2001 ~
Apple introduces the iPod, a portable digital music player that can store 1,000 songs.

What a beautiful way to greet someone.
As Christians, I wonder why we don't greet each other in this way?
