Three Things in Life

Just looking out the window, thinking about life, and remembering these words I read a short time ago.

Did You Know....

 ...there are three things in life that once gone, never come back?
Time
Words
Opportunity

... there are three things in life that can destroy a person?
Anger
Pride
Unforgiveness

...there are three things in life that are never certain:
Fortune
Success
Dreams

...there are three things in life that make a person:
Commitment
Sincerity
Hard Work

...there are three things in life that are most valuable:
Love
Family & Friends
Kindness

...there are three things in life that you should never lose:
Hope
Peace
Honesty

...there are three things in life that are truly constant:
Father
Son
Holy Spirit

 ...there are three things in my life that make me whole
My relationship with the Lord
Mr. D
My family and friends

A Pretty Fan

My youngest daughter, Peggy, surprised me a few weeks ago with this beautiful fan.

It sure has come in handy on these hot afternoons.  Yes, I'm using it ~ I debated on that.  At first I thought I would just display it on my dresser, for sentimental reasons.  I treasure any gifts given to me by my kids, but she gave it to me to use so I will use it.  She keeps hers in her purse and whips it out anytime she feels the need!

Thank you Peggy!

 In Victorian times the way you used your fan sent a message!

The fan placed near the heart:
You have won my love.

Half-opened fan pressed to the lips:
You may kiss me.

Hiding the eyes behind an open fan:
I love you.

Opening and closing the fan several times:
You are cruel.

Fanning slowly:
I am married.

Fanning quickly:
I am engaged.

Twirling the fan in the left hand:
You are being watched.

Encouraged Beyond Measure

 Have I mentioned lately how hot it is on the porch?  I know I have, but it's really hot out there!  I did manage to make a pretty setting for my coffee and I did take a few sips before running back inside to the AC.

I love pink, it made the heat seem cooler.

Well, not really.

Many years ago Mr D and I were going thru some tough times.  A situation in our life that was very stressful.  During that time someone gave me a little card, on that card were these words:

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

That short little prayer encouraged me beyond measure.  I put it on my dresser where I could easily see it as I got ready for work.  I read it and I prayed it.

It blessed me and encouraged me.  Years later my brother-in-law was going thru a very sad situation.  I gave him my card.  I hope it helped him as it helped me.

Although known most widely in its abbreviated form above, the entire prayer reads as follows...

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen

Wishing You Happy and Blessed Days

Lord, Send a Revival

We praise Thee, O God!
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus Who died,
And is now gone above.

Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.

Everyday when I watch the news, local and international, my heart grows heavy.  Evil is rampant.  Our country, our world, needs a revival!

Revive us Again.

 Early in the Welsh Revival of 1904 a Wiltshire evangelist visited the meetings at Ferndale. He stood up and said, “Friends, I have journeyed into Wales with the hope that I may glean the secret of the Welsh Revival.” In an instant Evan Roberts was on his feet, and with an uplifted arm towards the speaker he replied, “My brother, there is no secret! Ask and ye shall receive!!

Ask, Seek, Knock

Matthew 7:7-8
 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Revival begins when people turn to God. It breaks forth from intercessory prayer and continues when people repent and no longer tolerate sin in their lives.

It is my prayer for America and all nations, that God will bring transformation of hearts to the people.  That the laws of the land are Bible based and all nations turn from there wicked ways.

Long Ago and Far Away

For those of you who visit often, you know I love poems, simple poems that always rhyme.  This love goes back to my childhood where I was introduced to poetry in elementary school.  When I got to Junior High I took a speech class and enjoyed every minute of it, well, almost every minute.

The teacher of this class also wanted her students to learn public speaking.  That I didn't like.  She would have us memorize poems or speeches and have us recite them at a school assembly, in front of the entire student body.  It counted as a big part of our grade.

My first time at the podium my heart was fluttering, my knees were shaking, and I didn't think I would even be able to speak.  But I did speak and I liked it!  The first poem I recited was Little Orphan Annie, I can still see that young girl walking onto the stage...long ago and far away.

Little Orphan Annie
James Whitcomb Riley

Little Orphant Annie’s come to our house to stay,
An’ wash the cups an’ saucers up, an’ brush the crumbs away,
An’ shoo the chickens off the porch, an’ dust the hearth, an’ sweep,
An’ make the fire, an’ bake the bread, an’ earn her board-an’-keep;
An’ all us other childern, when the supper things is done,
We set around the kitchen fire an’ has the mostest fun
A-list’nin’ to the witch-tales ‘at Annie tells about,
An’ the Gobble-uns ‘at gits you
             Ef you
                Don’t
                   Watch
                      Out!

Onc’t they was a little boy wouldn’t say his prayers,--
So when he went to bed at night, away up stairs,
His Mammy heerd him holler, an’ his Daddy heerd him bawl,
An’ when they turn’t the kivvers down, he wasn’t there at all!
An’ they seeked him in the rafter-room, an’ cubby-hole, an’ press,
An’ seeked him up the chimbly-flue, an’ ever’wheres, I guess;
But all they ever found was thist his pants an’ roundabout--
An’ the Gobble-uns’ll git you
             Ef you
                Don’t
                   Watch
                      Out!

An’ one time a little girl ‘ud allus laugh an’ grin,
An’ make fun of ever’one, an’ all her blood an’ kin;
An’ onc’t, when they was “company," an’ ole folks was there,
She mocked ‘em an’ shocked ‘em, an’ said she didn’t care!
An’ thist as she kicked her heels, an’ turn’t to run an’ hide,
They was two great big Black Things a-standin’ by her side,
An’ they snatched her through the ceilin’ ‘fore she knowed what she’s about!
An’ the Gobble-uns’ll git you
             Ef you
                Don’t
                   Watch
                      Out!

An’ little Orphant Annie says when the blaze is blue,
An’ the lamp-wick sputters, an’ the wind goes woo-oo!
An’ you hear the crickets quit, an’ the moon is gray,
An’ the lightnin’-bugs in dew is all squenched away,--
You better mind yer parents, an’ yer teachers fond an’ dear,
An’ churish them ‘at loves you, an’ dry the orphant’s tear,
An’ he’p the pore an’ needy ones ‘at clusters all about,
Er the Gobble-uns’ll git you
             Ef you
                Don’t
                   Watch
                      Out!

I find it hard to believe that I memorized the entire poem and was able to recite it from memory.  Certainly could not accomplish that today!
Precious Memories!

Another poem I learned as a little girl was My Shadow.  After all these years I still remember the first verse.  As I was reading it this afternoon all the other verses came back to me.   I was a little girl once again, reciting a poem for my Momma.

My Shadow
By: Robert Louis Stevenson

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.

The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow—
Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an india-rubber ball,
And he sometimes gets so little that there's none of him at all.

He hasn't got a notion of how children ought to play,
And can only make a fool of me in every sort of way.
He stays so close beside me, he's a coward you can see;
I'd think shame to stick to nursie as that shadow sticks to me!

One morning, very early, before the sun was up,
I rose and found the shining dew on every buttercup;
But my lazy little shadow, like an arrant sleepy-head,
Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.

Believe In Miracles

“A miracle is more than something unusual, though in ordinary speech we might call such events miracles. A true miracle is something beyond man’s intellectual or scientific ability to accomplish. It is not natural, it is supernatural."
C.S. Lewis

In the gospels we find 35 specific miracles performed by Christ.  These miracles were not confined to one specific sphere so they couldn’t be considered trickery.

Jesus performed miracles on nature.
He performed miracles on human beings.
And He performed miracles on demons.

Behind every miracle Jesus performed there was a great purpose.

 Through miracles Jesus demonstrated His deity.
Through miracles Jesus revealed the limitless power of God.
And through miracles Jesus taught great lessons of faith.

Do you believe in miracles?
I sure do!

Until Next Time

A Clear Command

I enjoy my birdhouses on the fence.  I made them last year from scrap lumber Mr D had in his shed.  He did the sawing and I did the painting!

Something cute to look at while I'm rocking on the porch.

I was shopping at Mardel's Christian Book store recently and found some great books on their 'everything's a dollar' table.  I've never been one to turn away from a bargain so I loaded up!  One of the books I purchased was Let Hope In by Pete Wilson.  I've been scanning through the pages and these paragraph's caught my attention....

A Clear Command
Life is one giant lesson in love.  It's not about how much we get (acquisition), how much we do (accomplishment), or much we earn (achievement). It's not about all the other things we're told life's about.  God put us on this earth to learn to love.  We were created to receive love and to give love.

Jesus says the two most important things in life are:
1.  Learn to love God with all your heart.
2. Learn to love everybody else.

He says if you get that, you've got life.
If you don't get that,
you just wasted your life.

Love is what life's about.
Love is the name of the game.
Love God.
Love others.

Matthew 22:36-40 (ESV)
 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”  And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

New Each Morning

Another morning, another day!  So blessed to know He has new mercy for me this day!

     “Great is Thy faithfulness,
                 Great is Thy faithfulness,
                            Morning by morning new

                                                           mercies I see:

       All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
         Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!”

Lamentations 3:23

We're designed to live, love, and grow.  Along the way we'll also fall.  It's part of being human.  God's mercy gives us the courage to risk trying again!

God will show His mercy forever and ever to those who worship and serve Him.
Luke 1:50

Looking forward to next time..

A NIght of Ministry.

I was so blessed last Friday when I had the opportunity to go to Victoria, Texas with all three of my daughters, to see Christine Caine speak and Kari Jobe perform.

It was held at the beautiful Faith Family Church.

This is a random picture of the inside of the church, just so you can see how big it is.

There was women everywhere, the house was packed!

 Christine Caine's message touched the hearts of many and the altar call was phenomenal.  Kari Jobe's performance was also great and her light show was exciting.

She seems to be such a sweet young woman and very talented.

Peggy, Tammy and Me!  We were early, a good time to take pictures!

Here I am with my oldest daughter, Tracey, at Cracker Barrel.  We were on our way home and had stopped for lunch.  The food is so good there!

I enjoyed this little overnight trip so much.  A great service, great music and precious time spent with my girls.

Until Next Time
Wishing you happy and blessed days!

My Night Light

Do you leave a night light burning in your home?  I sure do.  When I was a little girl I had 2 older brothers, 7 and 9 years older, and they took great pleasure in scaring me.  Oh the things those boys would do....hide in the closet, hide under the porch, take flashlights and hold them under their chins and peep in my window at night. I did what most little girls do...I screamed!  I do smile about it now but those 2 scarred me for life.  Yep, they did.

When I grew up I really didn't need a night light but I always kept one on anyway.  When my children were in their teens I always kept a small lamp on in the kitchen because they always used the back door ~ they never came home to a dark house.

A night light can be a welcoming thing!

Living in this world can be a scary thing at times.  Darkness comes into our life and we can become afraid.  Praise God, there is another kind of night Light ~ another one that never burns out.

In the night seasons ~ He is our night Light.

Send out your light and your truth;
    let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
    and to your dwelling!
Then I will go to the altar of God,
    to God my exceeding joy,
and I will praise you with the lyre,
    O God, my God
Psalms 43:3-4

God's Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our pathway! So, my childish request is Father, please leave a Light on!

God's Light leads us to the path of His will for our lives.

Whenever you are in darkness, whenever you are afraid, turn to The Light of the World to brighten you life.

God's Word the Light of my life!

His Light is always on!

Morning Coffee on the Porch

His Mercy Endures Forever

It's a beautiful morning on the porch, just a little hot, but it is summertime after all. God meets me here each morning, He's always anxious to hear what I have to say.  Some mornings we just have quiet time, some mornings I just can't seem to stop talking and other mornings He does all the talking!  Those are the best mornings!
I love this quote from Patsy Clairmont
~ How I love that we can't be too young or too old, too broken or bruised, too tired or tattered for God to work in us! His mercies are new every morning. ~

His mercy is new every morning, I receive it every morning.  His mercy endures forever!
Time alone with God every morning before you start the day can change your circumstances and move mountains in front of you.  His mercy endures forever!
 A highlight in the Book of 2 Chronicles is verse three of chapter seven: “When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord saying; ‘For He is good, for His mercy endures forever.’” That verse, while found somewhat hidden in what could be called a history book, reminds us of a reality that can get us through life, regardless of the circumstances we’re facing.  When we remember God is good and His mercy endures forever, we can face any hardship and any loss.  Remember this today:  He is good, and His mercy endures forever.  And we’ll make it.
From the Women of Faith Devotional Bible

I love to study in the Book of Psalm, so many times King David reminds us of God's mercy.

Praise the Lord!
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.
Psalm 106:1

Those same words are found again in
Psalm 118:29.

Until Next Time
His mercy endures forever!

Great is Thy Faithfulness

SonDay's Hymn

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father.
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not,
Thy compassions they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever will be!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
 Many times we mistakenly compare God's faithfulness to ours ~ sometimes on, sometimes off.  However God's faithfulness is far beyond what we could ever succeed on our own.  If there's a measure of faithfulness accredited to us ~ it's all because of His faithfulness that gives us the strength to do it.
What God promises is that He always, always comes.  He always shows up.  He always saves.  He always rescues.  His timing is not ours.  His methods are usually unconventional.  But what we can know, what we can settle in our soul is that He is faithful to come when we call.
Angela Thomas

Click Here to listen to this beautiful old hymn.

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23

Until Next Time
God will not let you go~
