The Magi

O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shining far through shadows dim
Giving the light for those who long have gone
Guiding the wise men on their way
Unto the place where Jesus lay
O beautiful star of Bethlehem shine on!

He came for the whole world.  Near and far, poor and wealthy, Jew and Gentile, servant and king.  The wise men came, not to acknowledge Mary, but to pay homage to her son.

Their Presents were well chosen: gold for a king, incense for a priest, and myrrh for a burial, pointing to the sacrifice that was to come.

In years to come Mary surely relived every moment of their remarkable visit.  The words that were spoken, the looks on their faces, the treasure chest they opened, the gifts they placed at her son's feet.  The Wise Men were not mentioned in scripture again but surely Mary never forgot the day she welcomed them to Bethlehem.

Until Next Time

O beautiful star the hope of grace
For the redeemed, the good and the blessed
Yonder in glory when the crown is won
Jesus is now the star divine
Brighter and brighter He will shine
O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine on

  5. I read once that they were the descendants of the people who knew Daniel. He had taught them the ancient Jewish prophecies. But also read they were Zoroastrians who watched the stars and knew something was up. Whoever they were, when they arrived in a place their reputation preceded them because they often showed up without it being announced that a king had been born.
