Killough, Ireland

Yes I'm Irish.

My maiden name is Killough.
We pronounced it kill-low, not kill-lock,

Killough  (ki'ldx/ ki-LOKH from Irish Cill Locha, meaning "church of the loch") is a village and townland in County Down, Northern Ireland.
It lies on the Irish Sea shore near Ardglass, five miles southeast of Downpatrick.

My ancestors are from this village/township.

ACROSS THE SEA: IRELAND

"He turned him right and 'round about
Upon the Irish shore
And gae his bridle reins a shake
With adieu forevermore."
--Robert Burns

Main Street in Killough, Ireland.

St. John's Point Lighthouse, Killough, Ireland.

My ancestors came to America in the 1600's to escape religious prosecution.

Today's photos were taken from the internet.

Mr D. gave us quite a scare Monday.  While we were shopping in Lowe's he passed out.  It was so scary, paramedics were called and he was taken to Bayshore Hospital.  After too many hours in the ER he was finally in a room around midnight.  Many test were done and results were coming back good.  The last test was a nuclear stress test, that's when it was discovered that the one of the arteries used in his 2013 bypass surgery was blocked.  By God's mercy and grace they were able to insert a stent, and he came home today.  Thank you Lord Jesus.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow.

Until Next Time

  1. I am SO happy for the good news about your hubby! Praise God, indeed!! Excellent news.

My maiden name is Kelly, so I claim some Irish blood too... but I don't have a town that I can claim as my own! Wow. That is really fun!

  5. So very happy Mr. D. is now home safe and sound. I know that had to be quite the scare to have happen while shopping. So thankful you knew God was with you both throughout the whole ordeal. Such peace comes from knowing you are not alone.
I love the interesting information about your ancestry and links to Ireland! That is really cool! I don't know that much about my family history, just that we are Scotch-Irish on my mother's side, and German on my father's side, with I'm sure a few other ancestors thrown in to make an interesting mix! Have you been to your town in Ireland? I'm sure that would be a fun trip for you! Praying Mr. D. continues to strengthen and will soon be back to "normal". Love and prayers to you today.

  10. Dear Mary,

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband, but thankful that the doctors were able to put in a stent and that all went well. I know you are glad to have him home.

I'm also happy to see you celebrating your heritage of being Irish! Loved viewing all of the pictures and hearing how your ancestors came to the U.S. to escape religious persecution. That is quite a heritage!
