Thursday's Thought

Life on Thursday

Thursday has always felt like a bit of a turning point in the week— far from Monday and close enough to Friday to look forward to the weekend. It’s a day to pause, take a deep breath, and look around at all we’ve done… and all we still hope to do.

For me, Thursday is a quiet kind of rhythm. The laundry is humming, the coffee is strong, and the sunlight—if it shows up—will give us time on the porch. It’s a day that calls for thankfulness. Not just because the week is nearly done, but because we've made it this far. God has walked us through every step—every joy, every trial, every little blessing we might have missed if we hadn’t slowed down.

Thursday is also a good day to take stock of the heart. Have we loved well this week? Have we spoken words that build up instead of tear down? Have we paused long enough to really listen—to God, to others, even to our own soul?

I often think of that old nursery rhyme line:
“Thursday’s child has far to go.”
That’s not a bad thing. It means there’s still more ahead. More growing, more learning, more loving. More of God's grace unfolding, one ordinary Thursday at a time.

So today, I’m choosing peace. I’m choosing purpose. I’m choosing to believe that even in the middle of an ordinary week, God is doing extraordinary things.

"The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs. . . and will strengthen your frame.

Isaiah 58:11

This verse pairs beautifully with the theme of Thursday as a day of direction, strength, and God's ongoing presence.

Happy Thursday, friends. Keep going—you’ve got far to go, and God’s going with you every step of the way.

Until Next Time

Post Script!

I can't believe I correctly answered the final question on Jeopardy when all the contestants got it wrong!  I am enjoying the moment because the odds of that happening again are slim to none.

  1. Hi Mary :) I've missed your blog! I'm glad I found you again :) Thursdays are a day that I either start my new week at the library or I start my week off, so they are a good day, either way :) Enjoy your Thursday!

  2. Happy Thursday! Yes, I love that THursday is usually a day to pause and think about the things we are thankful for at this present time. There are many, and one is that I am thankful for you and your words of wisdom and encouragement each week. I'm so glad you are back to writing more often these days. This was a beautiful post, and it has blessed my morning already. Thank you. Wow, on the Jeopardy question. What was the question? (or what was the answer, and you got the question?) I don't watch that anymore, so I didn't see it. So proud of you!! Have a lovely weekend.

  3. I had to giggle at the day-of-the-week rhyme! I was born on a Tuesday... full of grace. Makes me laugh all the time because I am so far from graceful, but thankful every day for the grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior!! Have a blessed Thuraday, Mary!! xo

  4. Another Jeopardy! fan ... yay! I don't often get the correct answers, but like to tell myself I'm still exercising my brain.
I pray I never stop to appreciate all the extraordinary things God is doing.

  5. I always loved Jeopardy! Congratulations on the answer! Thusday was my favorite day as a kid because it was close to the end of the week. Funny, not Friday but Thursday and I disliked Tuesday because I had my most serious dance class that day. Happy Thursday!

  7. Thursday evenings are Bible study for us. We had it at our house the first 14 years we were married on Thursday evenings. When we moved to Spokane, within a month we were again having Bible study in our house. Every week with very, very rare exceptions. During covid, we switched to ZOOM study and it worked very well. We moved back to Omaha to take care of Mom in 2021 in the middle of covid lockdowns. We continued with the ZOOM studies. Guess what? We still meet on ZOOM on Thursday evenings with our friends in Spokane, although we're in Omaha. For almost 35 years now we've had study on Thursday with this core group of Christians. Some have come and gone over the years, but eight of us have been there the entire time! Wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ. In many ways, they are closer than blood relatives.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
