Matthew 1:18-21

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son

18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[b] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

These scriptures about the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy through the miraculous conception of Jesus by the Holy Spirit, emphasizing His role as the Messiah who will save His people from their sins. They reveal a pivotal moment in the Christian faith – the announcement to Mary that she will give birth to Jesus, the Savior of the world. The angel delivering the message signifies the importance of this divine plan, as angels are messengers of God in the Bible. The angel is indicating that Jesus is no ordinary child by foretelling his birth; he is the long-awaited Messiah who will bring salvation to humanity.

Time for Tuesday 4

Thank you Annie for hosting Tuesday 4, begun by Toni Taddeo and kept in her memory.

Christmas is fast approaching for billions of people...

1. Do you have a favorite Christmas carol and if so is there a particular version you especially like?

I love all the Christmas carols and it's really hard to choose just one, with that said, Joy To The World is at the top of my favorites list.  As for Christmas songs, gotta be Sleigh Bells๐Ÿ’™

2.Do you have a special dinner for the holidays? What foods are included?

There was a time when we would just repeat Thanksgiving, turkey and dressing and all the other sides that go with it.  We haven't done that in a while, too much work with everything else that's happening on Christmas Day.  Usually it's barbecue or finger foods. One year I made homemade gumbo. I cut all the fixin's up the day before making less time in the kitchen on Christmas Day.

3.Holiday movies ... which do you like to watch?

I enjoy most of them, I even watch Rudolph and Frosty, it doesn't take kids in the home to enjoy animated movies. Of course, White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street (with Natalie Wood) will always be a favorite.

4. What traditions do you continue to keep year after year for the holidays?

Everything for us is a tradition because we do the same things every year. The only change has been we now rotate our family gathering between the three girls, I gave up hosting a few years ago, sometimes I wish I could host again, although the girls do a great job.

Blessings to All

Until Next Time

  2. Joy to the World is playing in my head right now! We still haven't decided what to prepare on Christmas Eve. Tom's thinking prime rib, but I'd just as soon have BBQ.

    1. My son in law is smoking turkey breasts and pork tenderloins for our family gathering this year. We're all to bring sides and desserts. Gonna be great.

  3. I love all of the traditional carols and especially Mark Lowry's "Mary Did You Know?"
If it's just the two of us I'll make a pot of chili or soup, but if I'm making dinner for family it will usually be a ham.
We like most of the Christmas movies and even watch a lot of the Hallmark type movies.
We don't have a lot of traditions anymore since the kids left and aren't home for Christmas anymore. We are always alone for Christmas because the only child close by spends the holidays with the in-laws. This year we're the ones traveling to spend Christmas with our son's family in London so we'll experience our daughter-in-laws family traditions which should be fun. :-)
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  4. My mom used to make chicken gumbo. I loved the peppery taste and I haven't had it in years. I think finger foods are a great idea!

    1. “While my sister-in-law was known for her chicken gumbo, we’re blessed with fresh seafood nearby—so around here, gumbo means seafood gumbo.”

  5. I tried to get us away from the old traditional meal at Christmas. One year my mom made meatloaf and it was delicious. I think I even made lasagne one year, but we have always gone back to ham. We do turkey at Thanksgiving. Your Christmas sounds great. Loved your answers! Have a nice week.
