Tuesday 4
Welcome
back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we try and challenge you to think ,
discover and make new friends through blogging.
Annie is our hostess and you can join in Here.
1. Would you
tell us about a book you particularly enjoyed?
There are two series of books that have stayed with me for a
very long time. The Left Behind series
by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, and The Mitford books by Jan Karon. Excellent reads.
I still
have the complete Left Behind series on my bookcase.
I had the complete Mitford series but gave it to Peggy when we downsized to our smaller home.
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who
never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin
2. Do you
have a favorite book series?
See #1.
How about a favorite series when you were a kid?
I read all the Nancy Drew books in my younger years, I still think of her as a
dear friend. I really get involved in a
good book. The characters become real to me.
“I have two moods: 1) Need more coffee 2) Just one more chapter” – Unknown
3. Is there
a book that you just did not like or one in which you just could get
interested?
I’m a fan of Ted Dekker, and I’m pretty sure I’ve read most of
his books—including the ones he wrote for kids. But the last one I picked up
just didn’t pull me in. I wish I could remember the title; even after looking
through lists of his books, it still isn’t coming back to me. He really is a
gifted author, but some of his stories can be a hard read. jmho
“There is no friend as loyal as a book… except maybe my
blanket.” – Ernest Hemingway
4. Is there
an author whose books you don't want to miss or one whose books you avoid?
“No, not
really. I tend to choose my books by the subject matter rather than the author.
Still, if I notice a new title by someone I’ve read and enjoyed before, I’ll
usually take a look.”
I just
want to say hi to:
Rayford Steele: A pilot who becomes a leader among the
survivors after the Rapture.
and
Buck Williams: A journalist who investigates the events
following the Rapture and becomes a key ally.
Also a hello to Father Tim in Mitford, and of course to my
friend from childhood, Nancy.

forever.” – Unknown

Hi Mary, I loved your post and we both wrote about the Left Behind series. They wrote 13, and then 3 prequels. I think I will read them again starting with the prequels that tell about the main characters when they were young. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI read the first prequel, I couldn't get into it so I just laid it aside. Hope you have a great week too.
DeleteMary, the Left Behind series was wonderful and impacted my life in a great way. My husband and I both read them and then my boys read the kid's version. Another series that is wonderful is Richard Paul Evans' Broken Road series. That will always go down as a favorite for all time. Currently I'm enjoying the books by Freida McFadden, which are psychological thrillers, but I usually have multiple books going in different genres.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the Broken Road series; I'll add it to my 'to-read' list. I'm always looking for a good read.
DeleteI've never read the entire Left Behind series but I have read what I call the "bookends" - The Rapture, Left Behind, and Glorious Appearing.
ReplyDeleteThe Mitford series is my all-time favorite and I have to remind myself that Mitford and its inhabitants are not real.
I didn't read Nancy Drew as a child. For me, it was Trixie Belden.
Yes, a shout out to Rayford and Buck and Fr. Tim!
Isn't reading fun? Happy New Year!
I can remember waiting anxiously for the next book to come out. I really got into them. Yes, reading is fun. Happy New Year back to you :))
DeleteI like Hemingway's quote. I can relate to the blanket lately. It is amazing how real some characters become and how much you would like to meet them if they were real..but they do become real to us. Thanks for joining in.
ReplyDeleteDear Mary, thank you so much for sharing! God bless you.
ReplyDeleteNext to Cherry Ames, Student Nurse, I loved Nancy, too.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I most drawn to characters I can actually visualize. That's probably why I'm loathe to see a made-for-TV (or movie) version; those casting directors never get them right. (lol)
I agree, they never are as good as the book. Sometimes they pick a star that isn't even close to the character I imagined in my mind. Hate that. lol
DeleteI think we have the same taste in reading. I have all of the Mitford and Left Behind Series and have read both several times. I also read Nancy Drew, Cherry Ames, Student Nurse and even The Hardy Boys. A little younger it was The Boxcar Children and others. I've always been an avid reader.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
I've always been a reader too. Books take you to another place, another time!!
DeleteOh, I enjoyed your post, Mary, and all the quotes and thoughts included. I haven't come up with a post for this one today yet. Been busy and can't seem to pull it together. But you have inspired me to at least try to think about it a little more. I loved the Mitford Series and gave away all my books when we moved here. I kind of regretted it after, but it's okay. I'd probably never take the time to read them all again anyway, and if I wanted to, they are at the public library. I can't believe I never read the Left Behind series. Maybe I will someday, but I prefer to wait for the real event...The Rapture! Hopefully it won't be much longer! Have a blessed New Year!
ReplyDeleteNothing will be as good the The Rapture! The author of this series really stayed true to the way the Bible explains it all, of course it's fiction so we have to remember that. They were very good, maybe you'll read them someday.
DeleteLike the reading quote. I love the Mitford series and have read the Left Behind series too. Have a collection of the first 52 Nancy Drew books. I read one every once in a while.
ReplyDeleteI had a complete set at one time, when the girls were old enough to enjoy them they started disappearing one by one. I'm sure they were passed around among their friends. I would enjoy reading one now a nd again.
