SOAP

Do You Soap?

Not this kind of SOAP !!

This kind of SOAP.

It's a method some use to study scripture.

S is for scripture:
Taking time to read and allowing God to speak to you.

O is for observation:
What strikes you?  What catches your attention?  What do you think God is saying to you in the scripture/scriptures you have read.  Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you.

A is for application:
Personalizing what you've read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now.  Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation or a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life.

P is for  prayer:
Asking God to help you use the scripture/scriptures you've read, or insight into what He may be revealing to you.  Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, be sure to listen to what God has to say!

We are using this method in our MeadowCrest Church Ladies Ecclesiastes study

This is my SOAP for Ecclesiastes 1:1-2

S ~ Ecc 1:1-2   The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:   “Meaningless! Meaningless! says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”

O ~ Solomon had found that wisdom and knowledge are not the means by which the search for true happiness is found. He tried to indulge in sensual delights to see if they brought any lasting satisfaction. And so he resolved to enjoy pleasure. He had tried wisdom, and found it fruitless for his purpose, so he entered the company of fools, to join in their revelry and mirth, and his learning was useless.

A ~ Solomon, in his moments of calm reflection, found within his own heart, that the utter folly of seeking ‘worldly’ pleasures will never bring the satisfaction we seek for our lives. I don't need to seek satisfaction in sensual pleasures, but in spiritual awareness of God’s Word. That’s what I want to focus on in my life.

P ~ Heavenly Father, I ask for your wisdom in my life, that I may find spiritual pleasures in You and Your Word. In Your Precious Name, Amen

Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  4. I LOVE your photo. The girls are adorable!! I have not used your kind of SOAP before, but will begin to apply it today! Much better to be washed in the word of God than with a plain ol' bar of Dove!!

  5. Oh my! This Scripture came to mind: "But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap." Malachi 3:2 His soap is the best!
