Vintage Photos

I have posted pictures of Sylvan Beach several times.  Today I have more pictures of this great park, vintage pictures!

Long ago and far away Sylvan Beach was known as Houston's Playground.

Sylvan Beach Day is still celebrated every year with a parade and lots of activities at the park.  And we still crown a Miss Sylvan Beach every year.

The art deco gate is long gone, I wish it was still there.

No, this isn't me.  I just wanted to share because I worked here when I was in high school. I loved it,  on slow nights the manager would let us open the door to the concession booth and watch the movie.  It was on main street and at night the neon lights were flashing and the kids were driving back and forth . . . so long ago!

This is me about the same time I worked at the theater.  I was 16 years old.

I hope you will excuse how grainy and fuzzy the pictures are, they're just old.

  3. I loved reading about your memories! I think that beach towns and resorts had such a special charm. This brings to mind St Augustine in FL that was a mecca for rich people and Daytona Beach with it's band shell and arcades. How lucky you were to grow up in this environment and work at the theater!
