It's been a peaceful Sunday morning. We didn't go to church, rather having church at home watching . . .
. . . Ed Young at Second Baptist Church, Houston.
Robert Morris @ Gateway Church in Dallas. The girls and I made a trip to Dallas a few years ago and visited this church, it is so big. We enjoyed the service and I'm happy I was able to hear Pastor Morris preach.
And I always enjoy watching the reruns of Adrian Rogers who was pastor of . . .

. . . Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Under his pastorage the church's membership grew from 9,000 to 29,000. He was named pastor emeritus after his retirement in March 2005. Pastor Rogers also served three times as president of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest American Evangelical denomination with 16 million members. He passed away in 2005 and this world lost someone who could preach the Word as well as any I've ever heard, I never tire of his messages.
Great messages from all of them this morning.
All theses churches are 'mega' churches, I don't think I could ever be a member of a church so large. Small churches are more like family, a home away from home and a refuge in troubling times.
We used to watch a mega church on TV, and were amazed at the numbers. It's unlikely that we would have that here.
ReplyDeleteI am with you re small churches. People just get lost in those mega churches. We love our small church where we recognize everyone, know most of the names and where they care about you. We didn't go to church today either. Joe and I both have ugly coughs. Wishing you a happy new year!
ReplyDeleteI listened to Pastor Rogers this morning. Such a wonderful sermon! If only more people could hear messages like he gives, there surely would be a different manner of living in America.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy those messages on TV too, but I miss the fellowship of a small church like I grew up with. I love my Bible study with 15 to 20 women. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteI agree small communities are the best.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very Happy New Year, smiles.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and your husband!!
ReplyDeleteI loved listening to Adrian Rogers. I used to watch him with my Dad when I was taking care of him after my mother died. We would spend Sundays together watching church on TV since he could no longer go. My hubby was working as a Chaplain at a Women's Prison at that time, and had to work on Sundays, so it worked out fine for me to be with Daddy. We had some special times together, singing with the Gaithers and watching TV preachers. This brought back sweet memories.
ReplyDeleteOur synagogue has 3,000 members, not quite Mega, but still not small. We were a cozy 200 when I started going almost 30 years ago and it really grew. For over 25 years I've been part of a small study group that meets once a month. It's given me the gift of a small group amidst the big congregation. Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year.
