1. Five years ago this month hubs and I relocated from New Jersey to the Palmetto State. What were you doing five years ago this month?
Five years ago I was doing the same things I am now. Just a little older.
2. What was the last 9-5 job you worked? Tell us about it.
I started working at our local bank in 1966. I left in 1969 to have my baby daughter Peggy. Then Russell came along in 1972. I went back to work at the same bank in 1976, after one week it was like I had never been away. I started in bookkeeping, then went to the teller line. After a few years I was back in bookkeeping where I stayed until I retired. Somewhere along the way I made Asst. Vice President of Operations. In 1996 our little bank sold to one of the large banks and I was forced to retire. They offered me a position at their downtown bank but I wasn't going to drive into Houston every day.
3. Plead the fifth, high five, take five, it's five o'clock somewhere, or the big 5-0...which number five phrase relates to your life in some way currently? Tell us how.
I think my life is high five! I have a good life, good hubby, good kids and grandkids. I am blessed beyond measure and that deserves a high five!
4. During this season of spending so much time at home, what distractions get in the way of being your most productive? Or have you been extra productive since this whole thing started?
Once again, being retired and staying home hasn't really got in my way. I'm pretty much doing the same things I have always done, except going out to eat. With that said, we have been venturing out in recent weeks. Being careful and taking precautions but I had to do that before C19. Early fall of 2019, the beginning of flu season, my pulmonologist strongly advised me to start wearing a mask when I went out.
5. Give us a list here of your top five anything.
Here are my top five activites!
Reading, I love a good book.
Watching old movies, old as in 40's & 50's
Sewing
Bible Studies
Playing Solitaire on my laptop

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Ah yes, "the simple things are often the best things!" I like that thought. I try to keep life simple as much as possible. It keeps things more calm and peaceful. I also love a good book, but I haven't been doing much reading of books this summer. I usually reserve that for the fall/winter when it gets dark earlier and we have those long dark evenings to stay inside and read. I hope our library opens back up in time for that. Sounds like you had a good career in banking, even if you did have to retire earlier than expected. I don't blame you for not wanting to travel into the city. That would definitely be me too. I'm just too much of a country girl! Hope you are enjoying a pleasant day today!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. I like your random.
I agree, I too have been blessed. My husband is my best friend. I have two adult boys, that just left the nest, they are a true blessing. I have a sweet little home in a nice neighborhood. The simple things. xx oo Carla
It sounds like you are very blessed. I like all your 5 activities except sewing. I can do it, but just don't like it. lol

I agree with your thoughts on simplicity. The world is so complicated, but our daily lives don't have to be. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteYes, the simple things are always best. :)
ReplyDeleteLoved your list
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are blessed! I play a lot of solitaire through Facebook's Gameroom app. I downloaded it to my laptop so I don't have to go on FB. Tons of solitaire games on there. And now they went and added gin, which I love. Just what I needed. LOL Hope you've had a great day!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about simple things. And I, too, am so blessed, Mary. The Hodgepodge is always fun and I usually learn something new about my blogging friends!! You are the second friend who was in banking! Stay well!!
ReplyDelete5 years ago I was doing the same thing as now too. Things just take a little longer to get done.
ReplyDeleteI was a bank teller too in the 'early years'.
Look like you had a rewarding banking job. I don't blame you for not wanting to drive so far. When Covid first started, I was sad that I could not meet with my friends. I do miss them, but I realized how much my family means to me and spending time with them is even more of a treasure. Just sitting outside watching the birds in the bird bath is a simple pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI'm falling behind in visiting, so sorry, Mary. I always enjoy your posts. My mom started off that way too, and then she became a CFO for a major banking corp. then she was forced into retirement. smiles
ReplyDeleteYou did very well in your job, way to go! Your pulmonary doctor was smart in telling you that about the mask. I have stage 4 COPD, this is a scary time. Love your high five and and your list of five. Great random thought.
