Long Ago and Far Away

Scrolling through Facebook when I came upon this .  .  .

. . . precious memories came flooding back.

Did you play paper dolls?  I sure did.  I had boxes full of them.  My Momma loved to play with paper dolls too.  She told me she cut her paper dolls from catalogs.

I wrote a little poem for my paper dolls.

Paper Dolls, Paper Dolls
Where did you go?
Oh how I loved you
So long ago.

I put you away
one sad day,
Thought I was too old
to play.

How I wish I had you once again,
and we could play and remember when,
days gone by just you and me,
oh how wonderful that would be.

Mr D went to Krogers for groceries and come home with flowers for me!
He's always been so thoughtful.

I watched the best movie on you tube, it so touching and uplifting.  It's one hour and 33 minutes long,  I was enjoying it so much it was over much too soon.

If you would like to watch it, go to you tube and enter I Am Gabriel in the search field, it'll come right up.

Until Next Time

  1. I loved playing with the Betsy McCall play dolls that were in the McCalls Magazine every month. Good times.

  3. I loved playing paper dolls. I actually ordered myself a book of them off Amazon a couple of years ago but they're too pretty even to cut out so I just page through and enjoy them. Your carnations are so lovely. Mr.D is a keeper for sure.

  5. I love your poem. I made my paperdolls like your Mom did from the catalog. I had entire families and had stories about all of them.
I'm going to try to watch the movie soon.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. OH yes, I LOVED playing with paper dolls too. My sister and I would get Betsy McCall out of the McCall's magazine each month and cut her out and her new outfits. We had some other special ones too...some movie actresses I think. I have one that I've kept that isn't OLD, but she was given to me years ago because she is called the "Steiner Doll", an old fashioned doll that was manufactured by the Steiner Doll company years ago, and this is a paper doll replica. She is very pretty. Now I need to find her and share her on a post soon. I love your yellow carnations! What a sweet and thoughtful gift. And that movie sounds good. I will have to look it up. This was very pleasant today. I am happy we both enjoyed paper dolls as children. That must be why we like each other so much today! :) Well, there are a lot more reasons than that, I am sure! God bless you dear friend.

  9. Many hours were spent playing paper dolls, most from catalogs, but a few bought ones too. And who could forget the "click, click" sound we made when the dolls "walked". I still have a box of old paper dolls which belonged to my girls. Heads are bent and ankles torn, but they hold many memories. I also have a few books, ordered from Dover Publications, but I haven't cut into them. I think it's sad that little girls are missing out on a wonderful playtime now. Maybe I'll introduce my two little great granddaughters to paper dolls someday.
