School has started here in my little part of the world.
Mr D and I both graduated from the local high school, our children graduated there and some of my grandchildren attended that same school. And, this year, my great granddaughter is going there also. A lot of family history in those buildings. The bulldog in the picture represents our mascot, and the orange mug represents our school colors of orange and white. If you look close you'll see my senior ring from 1963! Sometimes it seems only a few years ago.
It no longer fits my finger, I'm just a tad bigger than I was in school !
A little chant we sang at football games, long ago and far away.
School days, school days
Dear old Golden Rule days
'Reading and 'riting and 'rithmetic'
Taught to the tune of the hick'ry stick
You were my queen in calico
I was your bashful, barefoot beau
And you wrote on my slate, "I Love You, Joe
When we were a couple o' kids

When I was in the 7th grade my family lived in rural Canada. I went to a one room schoolhouse where grades 1-8 were attended. I don't remember how many students went there; I do remember there was only one teacher for all the grades. It was very different from anything I had ever known, a real adventure for me and my brother.
Until Next Time
Such a fun post! So many generations in the same high school...how cool is that! I hope you have a great day Mary.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun factoids! And yes, I sure remember singing that sweet song. It's playing back in my head right now, as a matter of fact. I've no idea whatever happened to my class ring; are those even a 'thing' anymore?
ReplyDeleteI sure enjoyed this post. I still have my class ring too. It doesn't fit me either. :-) My husbands family has the same history of high school. Grandpa, Dad, Him & siblings and their kids. Lots of school spirit. They are the "Vikings".
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Oh, I can't believe it! You were Bulldogs? We were Bulldogs!! We sang that same little chant "Everywhere we go people want to know.." I was a cheerleader, and we would sing it and the crowd would yell "Bulldogs!!:, just like yours! However, our school colors were Red and White. And I doubt I can wear my class ring anymore. I haven't tried lately. maybe I should. But I really don't have a spare finger to wear it now! LOL. You have great memories of your school days. How neat that your whole family has gone to that same school! Sadly, I moved away when I got married, and so my kids ended up going to different school in different states. I wish they could've gone to my old Alma Mater. It was a great school...small, but mighty! Oh, my hubby went to a different school as he grew up in a town about 20 miles from where I lived. His mascot was the "Blue Darters", whatever that is! LOL. I enjoyed reading this today. I've been busy and haven't had much time for reading today, but am trying to get caught up. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteFun trivia questions - I didn't know many answers!!
ReplyDeleteI still have my class ring too and it still fits. :)
Kids don't go back to school around by me till Sept 5th.
This is such a fun post, Mary!! School days, school days... times have changed, haven't they. It really is pretty awesome that you have grands and now a great-grand going to the same school you and your mister attended! We were the Lakers back at my old school (and they still are). I really enjoyed my visit here today!! xo
ReplyDeleteMy husband attended a one-room school along with his many siblings. In grade nine he was the only student.
ReplyDeleteI sure enjoyed those trivia questions. The average family spends $700 on school supplies? None of the families I know of ever did!!

Great and fun post, Mary! I have always loved one-room schoolhouses! I used to have a dream to go around the country and visit every one. In college I did my first public speaking assignment on the topic of one-room schoolhouses. In fact, there is one near you, in that area. Have you been? We took our homeschooling group there once and they got to sit in with the whole experience, teacher and all. It was great!
ReplyDeleteNo more school aged children in our family until Sloane reaches pre-K age...we've a few years to go yet.
