Monday Coffee Talk

Wonderful fall days are slipping by, one at a time. Our afternoons are still a touch warm, but the air has changed — the earth itself seems to whisper, “It’s fall, heat and all.” Even so, those cool morning porch moments feel like a blessing. I sit out there swinging, soaking in God’s goodness, grateful for every quiet breath.

Come sit on the porch with me

You never know what you might see.

Maybe a squirrel with a bushy tail

Gathing acorns in a little pail.

The clouds are white, the sky is blue

I sure would enjoy a visit from you.

Life stays steady for me, and honestly, I’m thankful for that. I’d rather have a calm day than one that’s too busy. These slow rhythms suit this season of life.

Another cross stitch, a bit of diamond art, some good Bible study, a few game shows, and before I know it, the day has tip‑toed away.

This is my first time to try a 'stamped' pattern, I usually do the counted cross stitch. It is definitely easier than the counted stitch.
A little more fall to share!

I spent several evenings last week watching old Bette Davis movies. She was never what I’d call pretty, but goodness, she could act. I think I’ve enjoyed every single film she ever made.

The Great Lie

1941

The Great Lie follows a woman who, believing her aviator husband (George Brent) has died in a crash, strikes an uneasy bargain with his former lover to raise the other woman’s baby as her own. This emotionally charged drama features powerhouse performances from Bette Davis and Mary Astor, whose portrayal earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Viewers praise the film’s strong female leads and tense interpersonal conflict, though some find the plot melodramatic. It remains notable for its themes of sacrifice, rivalry, and complex morality.

The groceries may have come from the store, but the provision came from the Lord.

Meanwhile, Tammy and Bo have been on the road again — nearly two weeks this time. They started at the Golden Arches in St. Louis, then headed to Kentucky to see the ark. From there they went up to New York, crossed into Canada to visit Niagara Falls, then down to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, and over to Hershey. After that, Washington DC for a couple of days, through the Carolinas, down to Georgia, and finally home. Just hearing it makes me tired. Lol

Here they are at the doors to the Ark, Tammy said it was awesome inside.
Genesis 7:15-16
And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life. So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in.

Genesis 7:16 states that after Noah, his family, and the animals entered the ark, “the LORD shut him in,” meaning God Himself closed the ark’s door to seal and protect them.  Multiple translations affirm that God—not Noah—closed the ark’s door. This act is consistently interpreted as a sign of divine protection, finality, and sovereign control over the coming flood

Monday Coffee Talk

Morning temps in the low 60's . . . so refreshing!

Cool weather has finally made it to my porch!  Saturday morning was wonderful as I sat in my swing, light sweater around my shoulders, sun shining, and a hot cup of coffee in my hand.

We’ve had several mornings like that, and now they’re gone.  Temps back in the 80’s this week.

With that said, cool fronts are starting to drift in, and the hot heat of the summer is gone.

I watched some great sermons from the following pastors yesterday.  They all delivered a great message.

Pastor Jack Hibbs - Calvary Chapel Chino Hills

Pastor Allen Jackson -  World Outreach Church® in Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Pastor David Jeremiah - senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, a Southern Baptist megachurch located in El Cajon, California.

Pastor John Hagee – Senior pastor of Cornerstone Church, San Antonio, Texas

Pastor Jerry Harmon - Senior Pastor of Grace Bible Baptist Church, Catonsville, MD

I know it’s best to be in a home church and enjoy being part of a church family.  Sometimes health issues prevent that from happening, I am so thankful for televised church services that fill me with God’s Word.

I finished this small cross stitch since my last post. He was fun to do and very easy, just the way I like it. He’s on the shelf where he can see me everyday as I stay busy at my desk.

Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Such a wonderful word from God.

Until Next Time

Post Script:

Delighting yourself in the Lord means making God your deepest joy — not a duty, but a genuine pleasure — and letting that intimacy reshape what your heart wants.

Monday Coffee Talk

It was such a pretty day we decided to get out and get some things done.

First stop, the beauty shop where I got a long overdue hair cut.  Feels so good.
Then on to Walgreens, where we both got our flu shots. ouch!
And we rewarded ourselves with seafood, catfish for him and shrimp for me.
We then drove through Lomax and made our way home.

Tracey and Scott came for a visit one day last week and brought us some of their left-overs! Spaghetti and Red Lobster biscuits.  It was sooooo yummy.

I'm still working on my cross-stitch project, it will be finished soon.  I've also started a new diamond art picture; it's a pumpkin with colorful fall flowers all around. I hope to finish both of them in time for my next post, when I'll share pictures.

Today's Thought:

Be as happy as a seagull with a French fry!

Family News:

Maegan has been busy in the kitchen!

I MADE MY VERY FIRST SOURDOUGH! 🍞🙌

And when I say made, I mean MADE. 😂

This was not “mix some ingredients and bake it.” This was basically a multi-day relationship with flour and water, lots of sticky messes and more than one roll of paper towels. Made completely from scratch with a starter I grew myself!!! 🩷

I didn't get a piece of this batch, but I hear it was yummy.

Around Town:

Our little town has a new City Hall.  I didn't think it was necessary, but I wasn't ask my opinion! lol

(Photo from the internet.)

They're already tearing down the old building.

Something is always changing.😐

Bible In A Year:

We are reading in the Book of Esther. Very inspiring.

Queen Esther’s essence in one breath: She is the quietly courageous Jewish queen who risked her life to save her people, stepping into danger with humility, wisdom, and the famous resolve: “If I perish, I perish.”

Her story embodies courage, faith, and purpose — a reminder that God often works through quiet, steady hearts positioned “for such a time as this.”

Monday Coffee Talk

 August 31, 2026

Because of the summer heat my time outside has been very limited.

I've missed being outside, spending time in the swing.

The other day I saw my swing from the window and decided to brave the heat and go sit on the porch for a while.  Breathing the hot air is so uncomfortable because of my COPD, so I didn't stay out long.

I could see that the heat has taken it's toll on some of the plants, even though Mr D waters regularly.

Even with the temp gage saying 98* it was nice just to be outside.

You can see the heat damage here, but this little plant is holding on. I moved it to a different location and I think/hope it'll do better.

I was about to go in when I had a visitor!

I was sitting in the swing and didn't noticed a little squirrel came to visit.  I just happen to look up and there he was, about 5 feet away, just staring at me.  I wanted to get a picture but knew if I moved he would scurry away. So we sat there and stared at each other. Eventually he turned and ran down the fence board and off to the treetops.  I hope he comes again.

Sometimes the best therapy is simply stepping outside and admiring what God created.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22–23, ESV

Happy Birthday shout out to my grandson Matt, and great grandson Henry who is 4 today.

Goodbye Dolly Parton, I will miss you.🦋

Goodbye August, I'm not sorry to see you go! Take this heat with you.

Until Next Time

If we never meet again this side of Heaven
As we struggle through this world and it's strife
There's another meeting place somewhere in Heaven
By the side of the river of life.

 Monday Coffee Talk – August 17, 2026

Last week was a slow one for us.  Mr D had his regular check up with the cardiologist and all is well, he doesn’t go back until February.  Pacemaker is doing it’s job.

If you look closely you'll see a little white box sitting on the nightstand by the curtain.  That little box monitors his pacemaker, sending data straight to his doctor's phone.  They would probably know before Mr D if anything was wrong. Modern technology at work.

We had some plumbing issues, thankfully Mr D and his good friend Arnold were able to get things done without having to call a $$plumber$$, Our pocketbook was thankful.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

We seldom eat fried foods these days, but sometimes we splurge and enjoy a bucket of fried chicken.  We didn’t order any sides as we were bringing it home and had things here to complete our meal.

COPD:

Sometimes what I want to do overloads what I can do. {{sigh}}

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly. Birds fly over the rainbow; why, then, oh why can't I?

Chronological Bible Reading:

This past week we were reading in Jeremiah, as I read the following scripture I couldn't help but think, The Majesty of God.

Jeremiah 5:22

Should you not fear me?” declares the Lord.
“Should you not tremble in my presence?
I made the sand a boundary for the sea,
an everlasting barrier it cannot cross.
The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;
they may roar, but they cannot cross it.

Little brother Wayne celebrated his 77th birthday this past week. I called and sang Happy Birthday to him, and he just laughed and said he doesn’t have birthdays anymore. I don’t know why I still call him “little brother” — old habits have a way of hanging on. I suppose “younger brother” would be better, but in my heart he’ll always be my little brother. And I'll always be 'sister', which he calls me.

I sure hope this is true.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead.

Until Next Time

Monday Coffee Talk

I watched Dear Heart with Glenn Ford and Geraldine Page one day last week, and it turned out to be just the kind of light, feel‑good movie that leaves you smiling. Made in 1965, it has that gentle charm you only get from older films, and I caught it on TCM. I’d seen it once a long time ago and remembered enjoying it then.

Texas Road House
I was going through some things tucked away in a desk drawer and found a gift card to Texas Roadhouse.  It had to have been several years old.  I didn’t think it would be worth anything but decided to call before I pitched it – WoW – to my surprise it still had $25 on it.  Guess where we ate that day?

Lunch at Peggy’s was great, we all had a good time. Hank like to grill so we had brisket, smoked turkey and salmon with lots of sides and strawberry shortcake for dessert! Good food, lots of laughter, lots of fellowship and lots of love.  Tracey and Scott will host the next luncheon in November.

Here I am, ready to go!

Leaving you with something to ponder . . .

God is not our last hope, He’s our only hope.

Until Next Time

Monday Coffee Talk

Hello August!

The only reason I'm glad you're here is because we're one month closer to fall.  Your days are still going to be scorchers and my close relationship with the A/C will continue.

The great grands are getting ready for school!  Lots of shopping happening.  Ava Love is a senior this year and Emma a freshman.  I hope they make lots of good memories. I believe Merica will be in third grade, and Hazel will be in first grade. WoW.  Little Henry will go to preK.

The neatest thing happened last Friday night.  There was a city/church wide prayer meeting at Sylvan Beach.  I would have loved to attend, but my health issues held me back. I think it would be great if it was a monthly event.
I've learned they had a great turn-out but were hoping for many more!

I finished another diamond art . . .
“A little style, a dash of diamonds and a hot cup of coffee!

Chronological Bible Reading

Isaiah 24 - 29

“In the middle of all this prophecy — the upheaval, the warnings, the weight of Isaiah’s words — this verse caught me and lifted me. It reminded me that no matter what shifts around me, God’s character does not. His plans are steady. His counsels are ancient and trustworthy. And right there, I felt my heart rise in praise.”

It stayed with me as read, it was as if the Lord reached into all that heaviness and whispered, “Look at Me. I have always been faithful.”

Praise to God

Isaiah 25:1

O Lord, You are my God.
I will exalt You,
I will praise Your name,
For You have done wonderful things;
Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

I like this from Catherine Pulsifer:

August is the bridge that connects the laughter of summer with the golden dreams of autumn.

Tomorrow is our quarterly lunch with the girls and their hubbies.  I always look forward to this fun day, Peggy and Hank will be our host.

Last year they served puled pork sandwiches which were so good.  I'm anxious to see their menu for tomorrow.

Until Next Time

Monday Coffee Talk

I don't have much to talk about today.

We’ve settled into one of those hot, lazy stretches here on the Texas Gulf Coast — the kind where the air feels heavy and the days drift by slow and quiet.

Heat and Humidity = Uncomfortable!

We've been staying home and staying cool, living day by day as the Lord provides. He certainly provides what we need, right when we need it, and these quiet summer days remind me to rest in that steady goodness.

The house is cool and peaceful which is a blessing, one of those things that God has provided.

So that’s my Monday — Just living gently and letting the Lord guide each day as it comes.

Time for me to catch up on July Photo-a-day with ChrissyT.

July 25th

Today's Word: Far Away

My photo today has been shared before, but it fits today's 'far away' theme so I'm sharing again.

This is my SIL's family cabin in Wyoming.

The Kemah bridge 'far away' in the background, this photo was also taken by our SIL Scott.

July 26th - 9 o'clock

Nine o’clock isn’t just a number on a clock — it’s a feeling. At nine, my house settles into its rhythm: coffee in hand, shadows stretching the floor from the morning sun, and the day deciding what kind of story it wants to tell.

July 27th - Cloud

Clouds over Sylvan Bay and the sailboats getting ready to sail.  From the looks of the clouds they probably had some good wind that day.

Psalm 113:3

From the rising of the sun to its going down
The Lord’s name is to be praised.
