Warmer days |
Spring has come and Summer is approaching. Our friend Linda tells me the temps in Florida are already in the 90s and humidity through the roof. But days are growing longer for everyone. How does it affect you?
1.Daylight is getting longer... what do you do with the extra daylight? Is it useful, productive or not?
I enjoy the extra time to sit on the porch. By late afternoon the hot temps have gone down a bit which makes it tolerable.
2. If you live where its more moderate do you spend more time outdoors? If you live in the tropical climate does it keep you inside?
Does the extra day light cause more heat and more use of utilities for you?
We live on the Texas coast, very hot and humid. Being outside is almost not an option these days. The heat and humidity is not good for my breathing issues so I stay inside most of the time. From answer #1, I do manage some time on the porch when I can. Our electric bill is quite high in the summer months.
3. How do you cool your home? How do you cool yourself off in the heat of the day?
We have central air and heat. As I said in answer #2, I stay inside during the heat of the day.
4. Do you enjoy a good barbeque outside in the warmer months or do you cook outside and eat inside? What foods do you enjoy on the barbeque? If you don't barbeque, what foods and drinks do you enjoy in the warmer months?
We love family barbecue's; they are so much fun. We used to do them often but not so much anymore because Mr D and I both don't tolerate the heat well. There was a time when we barbequed every weekend with the family. We liked chicken, sausage, hot dogs, and hamburgers right from the grill. On the side would be potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans and assorted chips, always delicious and always fun♥ As for drinks, iced tea, soft drinks and water, when I'm not drinking coffee, you'll find me with either iced tea or a coke.
"Texas BBQ Tale"
Smoke’s risin’, grill’s blazin’,
Sun’s high and temp’s amazin’.
Brisket’s barkin’, ribs are sweet,
Sizzle-dancin’ in the heat.
Cowboy hats and lemonade,
Swattin’ skeeters in the shade.
Hotter than a branding flame—
But that’s Texas, and BBQ’s the name!

Until Next Time
Hi Mary - first time visiting. Love the Texas BBQ tale. I don’t tolerate the high heat like I used to. I have to keep hydrated and even that, doesn’t help.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. God Bless
Hi Debby! So glad you stopped by for a visit, please come again. Nice to meet you too☺♥
DeleteWe love BBQ's but since it's just the two of us we don't do much of it any longer.
ReplyDeleteIt's turned chilly the past couple of days and we've had a couple of days of thunderstorms too. The humidity is still really high though.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Yes, you have similar weather to ours, and I know what you mean about porch sittin'...only in the evening or early morning here, but gotta watch out for those skeeters. Love the poem. Glad to see you here again!! Try to keep cool, calm and collected! LOL.
ReplyDeleteThat Texas BBQ Tale is very cute and applies to Florida as well!! I stay inside most of the time these days. I am sensitive to the sun, even in winter, so am careful about being out in the heat. I wear Factor 70 sunscreen when I have to go out. Sweet breezes are so welcome when we can catch them!! I enjoyed your answers, Mary! xo
ReplyDelete"But that's Texas .... " yesssss siree! Like y'all, Tom and I can't do heat so much anymore -- yet he still loves to grill. Do you get Conecuh sausage out there in your in east Texas grocery stores? It's like nothing I ever tasted before; in fact, when living in Arizona, we used to order it online.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you lived in Texas. I think I thought you lived in Tennessee for some reason, lol. I'm sure it gets very hot where you are and I can see why it's best to stay indoors especially in mid-day. Your menu for summer foods sound delish.
ReplyDeleteYour BBQs sound delicious! I forgot the baked beans.. I love them. I wish all the US had better summers than we do so we could all enjoy the outdoors more. I keep your health in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed our answers. Your BBQ's sound yummy and that poem is awesome.
