Welcome to Tuesday 4 which was started by our friend Toni Taddeo and kept up by Annie @ Cottage By The Sea in memory of her.
Different sections of the USA have different words and customs they use. Let's talk about
them.
1. In New Jersey you put your groceries in a paper bag or plastic bag. In Athens, Ohio where I went to university, you put them in a paper sack.
Is it bag , sack or something else where you live?

For many years it was a brown paper sack, now it's a plastic bag. Some stores offer a canvas shopping bag that you can purchase and use each time you shop.
2. NJ says Stockings.Athens, Ohio used to call them "hose" and in Britain they are tights. What about where you live?

They are called both here. Sometimes I say hose and sometimes I say stockings.😃 Does anyone still wear them? I do, if I wear a dress to church you can bet I have on hose, or stockings!
3.Soda, Pop, Coke?
We always call our drinks by their names. Coke means coke, Dr Pepper means Dr Pepper, Kool Aid means Kool Aid, etc. BTW, it's Coca Cola for me!
4. Shopping cart or trolley or? What do you call it?
Buggy in my part of the world.
Thanks Annie!
Until Next Time
Hi Mary, I like your new header! I praying the hurricane will not cause to many problem for you. I bet you remember when we had to use garter belts for our nylons. I did like drinking soda out of a bottle which was from Coke. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI love your new header too, Mary! Looks so homey. I am reading Susan's comment above, and yes, I remember those garter belts for "nylons", Hose, stockings...and like you, Mary, I prefer to wear pantyhose if I am wearing a dress to church, although lately I have actually worn sandals with no hose with a dress...but my dresses are still kind of long, so they hide most of my legs. And I always get a "buggy" at the store. Stay safe this week...praying that storm blows away and dies down before doing any harm.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your prayers Pamela, I'm sure not looking forward to the next few days. Putting my trust in Him.
DeleteMary, in Georgia and Alabama, we tend to call all soft drinks Coke.lol That does seem to be changing somewhat with the new generation. When we lived in Louisville, Ky, we said Pop.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I dont like wearing stockings, when we lived down south, I was so tan, didn't need them...I am afraid though if a job should come along, I will have to start wearing them again. I grew up saying POP, so POP it is, LOL.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary: I enjoyed your answers today.
ReplyDeleteHave a good Tuesday my friend.
We usually call drinks what they are, too, except for references to the group as a whole, as in..."We are going to have to get lots of pop for the party." Enjoyed your answers today, Mary. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your answers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in Mary. I am going back to pantyhose as I think legs look so much nicer in them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful header! Not often, but I still wear pantyhose with nicer clothes. 'Just feel unfinished without doing so.
ReplyDeleteOh my... I haven't had on 'stockings' in years and years. I have a shoebox full of them stuck away in the closet somewhere. I shudder to even think of putting them on, even with a dress for church... but this is Florida. Fun questions today!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone still wears them here, 'cept me. lol But, not as much as I used to!! lol
DeleteYour header is so pretty. We have the reusable bags. Plastic was banned several years ago in California at the grocery stores. Buggy....makes me think of a babies buggy.
ReplyDeleteI think when I was young I called them soda or pop...but I am like you, I just call it what it is now. I prefer Pepsi. Ya know...in response to what Stacy said up there...I bet I call it pop...like if I ask someone what kind of pop to buy for a party or something. Ok, I guess that answers that.
ReplyDeleteMy mom says buggy too and I think my Granie did too. I love those dialect differences. Then only some people say buggy here, so when I hear it, I think of my Granie...she also said ear bobs for earrings...I try to say that every so often to keep that term alive. Loved your answers! Have a great week.

I remember hearing about ear bobs! I'm a Granny and sometimes my grown grands will tease about certain things like that. It's okay, we all laugh.
DeleteHi Mary, As usual I liked reading your answers. It's all in fun.
