Monday Coffee Talk

It's all about August!!

Picture from the internet.

Come on in and enjoy a cuppa coffee with me!  Or maybe some tea?

And we need a little manna on our plate!

Brother Greg Fleck is a La Porte guy who is living in East Texas these days. His daily devotions are short and to the point.

 🌷 Monday’s Manna:

Lord help us to see You, others and ourselves through your eyes. We often see only the faults, failures and imperfection in ourselves and others. This is because our view of God has been distorted by religious perception and doctrinal inconsistencies concerning God's nature and character. God loves you passionately and sees you through eyes of perfection. His thoughts about you are precious!

Gregory Fleck

I'm so glad to see August appear, why???  Because it puts us that much closer to cooler weather.  We have been 41 days with at or above 100* temps, and 10 more days are in the forecast.  Whew'.:

Around Town:

Those temps have caused this advisory.

We are desperately needing a good rain.

August Special Days:

Aug. 1–7: International Clown Week🤡

Aug. 3: National Watermelon Day

I had some good cold sweet watermelon last night!

Aug. 8: National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbors’ Porch Day

What?  This sounds a little crazy to me!😜

Aug. 10: National S’mores Day

Aug 12: Vinyl Record Day

Aug. 13: International Left-Handers Day

Mr D is a lefty!

Aug. 20: International Geocaching Day

Aug. 20: World Honeybee Day🐝

Aug. 25: Kiss-and-Make-Up Day♥♥♥

August Trivia:

The colorful flowers known as the gladiola and poppies are the two official flowers for August.

The birthstone for August is the peridot which is created from molten lava.

Isn't this beautiful?  It's a 1.6 carat peridot pendant on a silver chain, listed for $359.  It's not my birthstone but I would sure wear it.

August Quote:

“August is ripening grain in the fields blowing hot and sunny, the scent of tree-ripened peaches, of hot buttered sweet corn on the cob. Vivid dahlias fling huge tousled blossoms through gardens and joe-pye-weed dusts the meadow purple.”

Jean Hersey

I am not familiar with Joe-Pye-Weed, so I looked it up  .  .  .

.  .  .  It's really pretty, I would grow it in my flower beds.  But alas, I don't think it will grow in my part of the world.

Joe Pye Weed is a late-blooming wildflower that’s native to eastern and central North America. It generally grows in upright clumps that reach up to 7 feet.

Interesting:

The oldest Olive tree is in Jerusalem estimated to be over 3,000 years old and still produce fruits

Amazing, hard for me to wrap my mine around that.  Just think, this tree was there when Jesus walked on earth.  WoW

Saint Basil said, "A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love ."

Family News:

Sweet Henry was dedicated to the Lord Sunday.  He is so blessed to have Godly parents.

Tracey and Scott are home from the cabin, back to the heat. 😢

Blessings to All

Until Next Time

  2. It is hot here too, although not as hot as where you are, but we are under a high heat advisory. I am SO thankful we replaced our house AC when we did! That Joe Pye weed looks familiar. We may have it around here, but not sure. So happy that little Henry was dedicated to the Lord. What a precious child and family! Our oldest son Benton was born in August, so the peridot is his birthstone. When he and Rose got engaged they decided to have a ring created using both of their birthstones. It's very pretty. That olive tree is amazing!! Wow, to think it was there when Jesus was walking on the earth!!! I liked the list of August special days, especially Aug. 13 for lefties, since I am a lefty and so is Benton and so is his wife Rose! Oh, and I love s'mores...but it's too hot in August to make them over a campfire! LOL. That's a fall thing! I do hope you get some rain soon. We've been getting a lot of rain lately, but it looks like not any this week...just HOT! This too shall pass, I pray! Have a blessed day and week and stay cool!

  4. It's not at all hot here, has only just finished a week of rain and wind! We could do with the sun.

  5. You shared a whole bunch of interesting August information!! We have been dry for several days now which is unusual for Florida in the summer. We could use a good rain but aren't as dry as your area. Take care in the heat, my friend!! xo

  6. Wow that tree is amazing!! That's a lot of days to be so hot. I can see why you want cooler weather. Summers here are like one long spring! :). Though you probably wouldn't like our winters. :)

  7. Wow, that olive tree defies adjectives! I'm so taken by that first image -- it almost makes me forget I loathe Summer. Beautiful pendant; perhaps you can write a letter to Santa Claus and see what happens .... (*wink*)

  8. Peridot is my birthstone too but somehow I've never liked it very much.
My DH is a lefty and we have various family members who are as well so we'll be sure to celebrate them on the 13th 🎈🎈🎈
