Holidays are over and we're enjoying some lazy days.  There has been bad weather and good weather, warmer days and cool days.  Mr D and I decided it was time for another one of our rides around town.  We drove into Pasadena to check on MeadowCrest Church, the church that my SIL pastored a few years ago.  It was severely damaged by a tornado in January 2023 and from what we understand the new congregation didn't have wind insurance.  The building has set in disarray all this time, a very sad sight.  We have some precious memories that took place there, anyway, we drove by yesterday and they have finally leveled it and hauled all the debris away ~ nothing but a vacant slab remains.  I hope they are able to rebuild.

Back in La Porte we drove past the construction sight for the new 7-11, it will be the fourth one in this little town.  They are so close together I think they're in competition with each other.  I guess the marketing team for 7-11 knows what they're doing, they sure didn't consult me. 😄

We drove through down and out West Main to check on some activity happening out there and it turned out to be not much of anything.  Apparently some type of maintenance crew laid skids through a vacant lot so their equipment would not get stuck.  Sometimes people on facebook can make such a big deal out of nothing.

The new football stadium is coming right along, lots of activity there.  Projected finish date is still late 2024 - early 2025.  It will be nice when finished, meanwhile our team has been playing on a borrowed field at a school in a town over the bridge.  It's hard for me to understand why they couldn't borrow from a school much closer.

It's coming and there's not a thing I can do about it.

It's gonna be cold, brrrr.
Time to turn up the heat and snuggle in with a good book or movie,  a cup of hot chocolate or some freshly brewed coffee, maybe a cup of hot tea!

  1. It's always good to hear from you! I am sorry about your SIL's church having to be demolished. I do hope they can rebuild. Where have they been meeting in the meantime? I know God will provide. Sometimes a fresh new start is a good thing. Your 7-11 story sounds like our Dollar General story. They are supposedly building another one on the north end of our little town. That will make 5 of them within a 10 mile radius, plus a Family Dollar/Dollar Tree combo. They know something we don't, apparently. We are also getting a Taco Bell and an AutoZone. Oh, we already have an Advance Auto and another private auto parts store, again all within 3 miles of each other! Our little town is growing whether we like it or not. LOl Oh, that cold weather does look too cold! I know it is going to be cold here next week too. Not as cold as you, but still cold for us. 'Tis the season! I love your pictures by the way. Have a blessed weekend.

  5. What a shame about that church! There used to exist a very picturesque church in Wetumpka that was leveled by a tornado -- but rebuilt like a clone of its former self. I asked Pastor Janet and she said they paid $$$ extra for that sort of premium. Sadly, I don't think many congregations have that sort of money.
We're bracing for chilly temps next week, but nothing like what you've shown. Keep safe!

  6. That's too bad about the church. I always hate to hear about things like that happening. I sure hope it warms up in Texas next week. We're driving from Omaha to Galveston to get on our cruise. We're leaving Wednesday so hopefully a warm up will have begun. Our son just texted that it's -40F in Helena, MT right now. That's real temperature, NOT wind chill! He says they're staying home today. Our wind chill is supposed to be -49F tomorrow morning so they've canceled church. It's just too dangerous to be out in the cold. We're having video services online instead, like during covid.
    Take care and stay warm.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. That's so sad about the church. I hope they're able to rebuild as well. It's in the teens here in Seattle and we've been staying inside as well. We're drinking lots of hot tea!

  8. It's cold here today. Got my heat going for sure. Us Floridians don't know how to take the cold though. Ha! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
