Holidays are over and we're enjoying some lazy days.  There has been bad weather and good weather, warmer days and cool days.  Mr D and I decided it was time for another one of our rides around town.  We drove into Pasadena to check on MeadowCrest Church, the church that my SIL pastored a few years ago.  It was severely damaged by a tornado in January 2023 and from what we understand the new congregation didn't have wind insurance.  The building has set in disarray all this time, a very sad sight.  We have some precious memories that took place there, anyway, we drove by yesterday and they have finally leveled it and hauled all the debris away ~ nothing but a vacant slab remains.  I hope they are able to rebuild.

Back in La Porte we drove past the construction sight for the new 7-11, it will be the fourth one in this little town.  They are so close together I think they're in competition with each other.  I guess the marketing team for 7-11 knows what they're doing, they sure didn't consult me. 😄

We drove through down and out West Main to check on some activity happening out there and it turned out to be not much of anything.  Apparently some type of maintenance crew laid skids through a vacant lot so their equipment would not get stuck.  Sometimes people on facebook can make such a big deal out of nothing.

The new football stadium is coming right along, lots of activity there.  Projected finish date is still late 2024 - early 2025.  It will be nice when finished, meanwhile our team has been playing on a borrowed field at a school in a town over the bridge.  It's hard for me to understand why they couldn't borrow from a school much closer.

It's coming and there's not a thing I can do about it.

It's gonna be cold, brrrr.
Time to turn up the heat and snuggle in with a good book or movie,  a cup of hot chocolate or some freshly brewed coffee, maybe a cup of hot tea!

Small Talk Saturday!

Every Christmas season Mr D and I look forward to our rides around local neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights.  In some neighborhoods there are many, some not so much.

For the past several years we have stopped at a local store and bought hot chocolate for the ride, it's always been so good.  Imagine our disappointment this year when their chocolate was awful, watery and bland. Bah Humbug.

The other night we made our own hot chocolate to take with us, it was so much better!

When we were in Clear Lake earlier this week we stopped by the Honey Baked Ham store and got a small ham.  It's a good thing we love ham because that's what we've had for super for three days!  It was so good but I'm so glad it's gone.

Before the ham, Tammy brought us Taco Soup, something else that we love.

Taco Soup Recipe:

INGREDIENTS

1 tbsp. canola oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 lb. ground beef
1 (15-oz.) can pinto beans
1 (15-oz.) can corn
1 (15-oz.) can rotel tomatoes
1 tbsp. taco seasoning
1 1/2 c. water

Sour cream, for garnish
Shredded cheese, for garnish
Sliced green onions, for garnish

DIRECTIONS
In a large Dutch oven or pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add onion and cook onion until soft, 5 minutes, then add ground beef and cook until no longer pink.
Add beans, corn, rotel tomatoes, taco seasoning, and water.

Serve with tortilla chips or fritos!

We've had a few rainy days making it look much colder than it is.  We're having cool nights and mild days, good weather for sitting outside. The therapist told me to sit in the sun for a little while every day.  I try to go out and sit on the porch in the mornings when the sun is shining.

As I'm typing I'm seeing a squirrel eyeing the bird feeder!!  Do squirrels eat birdseed?  I might be finding out real soon.  :)

Hello June

And the countdown begins!

Here comes the heat and humidity and I am now counting the days until November.  It's usually November before we see the first cool front.  I am not a summer person anymore, there was a day when I looked forward to summer fun, but not so much anymore.

With all that said, I will still enjoy being on the porch, with my coffee and talking with the Lord.  It's my happy place, among the flowers and watching the birds feasting at their feeder.

My heart is heavy because of all the riots happening through out our country.  It's hard to understand why some people think they have to do that to make a point, it's just hate, plain and simple.  Satan in full form.  He knows his time is short and he's doing all he can to wreck havoc on earth.

We have a powerful weapon, PRAYER . . .

2 Chronicles 7:14

. . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

I'm looking forward to next Saturday.  The GLOW ladies are going to meet again . . WooHoo!  There is a Mexican restaurant close by that has an outdoor patio where we can sit and enjoy being together.  We feel being outside gives us an edge of protection against the dreaded virus.  I don't know if everyone will attend, some are not ready to get out, and I respect that.

Here's an old GLOW picture of Sandy and I celebrating our birthday.  Our birthdays are one day apart and one year apart, we've celebrated together many, many times!

Precious Memories.

We've had some heavy storms come through our area lately, high wind gusts and heavy rain.
This in just a short time, the storm clouds made it so dark the street lights came on!

A small note:
I thought I had finished this blog and had it saved for today, it written yesterday.  I just came from facebook where our dear friend Pamela Mursch Steiner from Closed Doors, Open Windows https://pamelasopenwindow.blogspot.com/
had posted something that caused an Amen and Amen from me.  I immediately remember a sermon I heard a few days ago about saying, "Amen and Amen."  It rolls from me when I feel deeply about a message from God's Word or a message about God's Word.

When Jesus said, "Verily, Verily," what was he saying?

"Verily, verily"or "Truly, truly," "Most assuredly," or "Amen, amen," depends on the translation. All of His "Verily, verily" statements appear in the book of John, and they are used by Christ only when He is about to teach on a profound matter. The doubled "verily" denotes that what follows is of especially weighty and solemn significance, so we are to pay special attention.

And another note:
I have used the 'new blogger' for this post.  Why or why did they go and change things?  It's not near as user friendly as the old blogger.  It will take me a while to find everything and remember where I found it.  You'll notice the font from a copy and paste I used is not my default for this blog, I couldn't find a default print anywhere.  Yep, this is going to give me problems.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Until Next Time

Small Talk

Since all the rain we had last week the mosquitos are terrible.  It's hard to go outside for even a minute.  Because of my breathing issues I can't use any type of insect repellant, so no porch sitting for me.
Our little city is doing all it can to help the situation.  They spray late at night, hard to tell if it's really helping.  Sure hope it is!!

Peace:
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

I saw this mug on the internet and loved it!
I watch all the Hallmark Christmas Movies, they always have a sweet storyline.  I thought it would be fun to have it for my coffee while I watch the movies....well, that's not going to happen.  When I went to order it I discovered it was $25....

WHAT?.....

I don't think so!!

Shaking My Head

My GLOW group is meeting this evening, we've only done this once before.  We have always met during the day, but since we didn't meet last week because of the bad weather we're ready to get together for some good sistership.
Love my Sisters-In-Christ!!

Maybe the skeeters won't take me away on the few steps to the car!!

Wishing you a Terrific Tuesday!

Hello June

May is gone and June is here!
Ice cream cones are everywhere!!!

Mr D and I love going to Dairy Queen in the late afternoon, getting an ice cream cone and driving down to Sylvan Beach.  We eat our ice cream and watch the boaters coming in from a long day of fishing.

Another thing that June brings. . . .

. . . . the sticky June Bug.

If you sit on the porch at night and have a light on they will bombard you...eeek!!
Sticky legs and sticky feet, sticking to me, gives me the creeps!!
Turn that light off.

JUNE

It's not too cold
It's not too hot,
And only Fathers Day
Is all June has got.

You once was known
As just a bug,
Just like any other
Bug in a rug.

Until one sunny day
You wanted to change,
From what you was
To a brand new name.

Since it was June
And not much to do,
June was available
It could be used.

June Bug....June Bug
Are you still snug,
Snug as a bug
A bug in a rug.

Small Talk

Yesterday was a good day, long but good!

Got the laundry done and did a little house cleaning.  Changed a few things around the house, I don't do much of that anymore, my old body don't take kindly to it!

Spent most of the afternoon in the office taking care of first of the month business. So glad to get that over and done!

It was so pretty outside, I went out and watered the plants and let the dogbabies soak up some sunshine.  I still haven't cleaned the porch from all it's winter dirt and grime.  I'll need Mr D to help me so I'm waiting for a pretty day when he's available.

GLOW meets tomorrow, we're going to a new Italian Grill that just opened in our town.  We don't have many options here, it's Mexican food, seafood or fast food!  Italian will be nice for a change.

Getting out today to run errands and see what's going on around here!!

Yes, we are nosey rosies!
Awaken to Spring
And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.

November Hibiscus

Here it is November and my hibiscus is still blooming.  So pretty.

Feeling 'under the weather' this morning.  Cough and congestion, certainly not any fun.

Yep, this is me!  lol

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Blessings
