School starts here on Wednesday, so even though the
temperatures will still be sweltering, I expect things will liven up. Many of
the kids in our neighborhood walk to school, and since we live so close, I
usually see a steady parade of them going down our street. Our three
great-grands, however, ride the bus—so no long, hot walks for them!
The only bit of action has been across the street, where a new house is going up.
I can’t say I’m thrilled—it’s taking the last empty
lot on our street, and they’ve cut down several more trees. I just hope whoever
moves in will be good neighbors.
The other night, I enjoyed the sweetest old movie: In
the Good Old Summertime (1949), starring Judy Garland and Van Heflin. It’s
a charming musical adaptation of the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner
with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan, which is equally wonderful.
Both films tell the story of secret pen pals who work
together in a music store—one set in turn-of-the-century Chicago (In the
Good Old Summertime), and the other in 1930s Budapest (The Shop Around
the Corner). Both are pure, old-fashioned delight. ♥
Saturday was a
sweet one. Tammy and Bo came by for a visit, and Tammy brought some of her heavenly
banana bread muffins. The conversation was
so enjoyable, the kind of easy company that makes time feel unhurried. After
they headed home, Mr. D and I decided a little ride might do us good. As we
backed out of the garage, the sky had turned moody, with dark clouds curling in
from every direction. It looked like rain was on its way… but the clouds had
other plans. They drifted north, leaving us sitting under sunshine, high and
dry once again.
The clouds were beautiful and the picture really doesn't do them justice. The white in the picture was almost glowing from the sun behind it. It sure was pretty.
Hello Mary, it sounds like you had an enjoyable visit. I hope that whoever buys that house will be nice. Your clouds ⛅️ photo is lovely. I love ❤️ music 🎶 🎵 and movies from the 1940s and earlier as well.

It's always sad to see trees being cut down.
