St Pat's Day & Irish Blessings!

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone, are you wearing green??

Saint Patrick was a real historical person who lived in Ireland in the 400s and was used by God to convert much of the island to Christ.

I've enjoyed my St Pat's 3 tier; it greets me each morning and make me smile.

May peace and plenty bless your world
With a joy that long endures
And may all life's passing seasons
Bring the best to you and yours.

From the top to . . . .

. . . the bottom, it's a sight to behold!

May you have love that never ends,
Lots of money, and lots of friends.
Health be yours, whatever you do,
And may God send many blessings to you!

If you look close you will see the little angel Mr D gave me when I was in the hospital last November.

May you have:
A world of wishes at your command.
God and his angels close to hand.
Friends and family their love impart,
And Irish blessings in your heart.

Wishing you a pot o’ gold,
And all the joy your heart can hold.

May the dreams you hold dearest,
Be those which come true,
The kindness you spread,
Keep returning to you.

Shamrocks, the national plant of Ireland, add to the sea of green on March 17. Though legend holds that Saint Patrick used three-leafed shamrocks to explain the Holy Trinity, there is no historical evidence to prove it. However, theshamrock has been used as a symbol of the Emerald Isle since the late 17th/early 18th century.

During his life, Patrick became a priest and founded schools, churches, and monasteries throughout the Emerald Isle before his death on March 17, 461 CE.

The meal that became a St. Patrick’s Day staple across the country—corned beef and cabbage—was an American innovation. While ham and cabbage were eaten in Ireland, corned beef offered a cheaper substitute for impoverished immigrants. Irish Americans living in the slums of lower Manhattan in the late 19th century and early 20th, purchased leftover corned beef from ships returning from the tea trade in China. The Irish would boil the beef three times—the last time with cabbage—to remove some of the brine.

Until Next Time

May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.

Tuesday 4

Another Tuesday 4 hosted by Annie!

Saint Patrick

It's time once again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

Since Saint Patrick's Day is March 17 it might be nice to talk about it.

1. Do you celebrate the day and is it more secular or religious for you?

It's not a religious day for me, it's a fun day.  Because I'm mostly Irish it's fun to put up some decorations and definately wear green on that special day.  If you don't wear green you might get pinched!

2. Americans eat corned beef and cabbage but it's not traditional in Ireland at all.   In my  house its Colcannon and Beef Stew or Cottage pie (shepherds pie made with beef instead of lamb).. which is more realistic and far less salty.  Do you make special meals for holidays?  What will you make for St. Patrick's Day?

I used to make cabbage and sausage; I don't make anything special these days.

3.  Do you have much green in your wardrobe? Does the color look good on you?

No I don't, I don't even know why, it just happened.  I do have two new tops ordered that are green.  I didn't order them for St Patrick's Day, I ordered them because I like the print.  Do I look good in green; I don't know. 😊

4. In school we put up giant green shamrocks and Leprechauns. We made green paper chains to decorate our classrooms.  What do you do to decorate?

I always have decor of some kind around the house.  I'm into the tiered trays now, so this year I have a three-tier dressed in St Pat's attire,

Oh dear, my cross stitch is catty-wampus!!  I hate when that happens, sharing anyway.

cattywampus - misaligned, oblique, diagonal

I found this on the internet, it's a little long but very appropriate for St. Patrick's Day.

From Saint Patrick’s Breastplate:

I arise today
Through a mighty strength,
     the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ’s
     birth with His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion
     with His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection
     with His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent
     for the Day of Judgment.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love
     of cherubim,
In the obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet
     with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In the predictions of prophets,
In the preaching of apostles,
In the faith of confessors,
In the innocence of holy virgins,
In the deeds of righteous men.

I arise today, through
The strength of heaven,
The light of the sun,
The radiance of the moon,
The splendor of fire,
The speed of lightning,
The swiftness of wind,
The depth of the sea,
The stability of the earth,
The firmness of rock.

I arise today, through
God’s strength to pilot me,
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptation of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
afar and near.

I summon today
All these powers between me and
     those evils,
Against every cruel and merciless power
that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths
     and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts
     man’s body and soul;
Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me an
     abundance of reward.

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man
     who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone
     who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength,
     the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

Until Next Time

May joy and peace surround you,
Contentment latch your door,
And happiness be with you now,
And bless you evermore.

The Wearin' of the Green

This Poem was written by Jersey Nana.

Paint the line green
Down the middle of the street.
For here comes the parade
For the Irish elite!

With the Sons of Ireland
And their marching band,
Hear those bagpipes humming
All across the land!

But the best thing about
This Grand Old array,
Is that everyone's Irish
On St. Paddy's Day!

I really am Irish, my ancestor's came from Ireland to America in 1718.  They landed on August 4 of that year in Boston!  My many times great grandfather, Samuel, was born December 8, 1719 in Worchester, Mass.  I guess he was the first true American.

They traveled from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania, where they settled for awhile, then on to Alabama and settled there for a while.  They soon left Alabama and settled in East Texas.  They made their permanent home there, never leaving again.

Yep, I'm an Irish Cowgirl.

My Irish blood has been watered down over the years but on St. Patrick's Day my blood still turns green and I've been known to dance a few jigs!

Until Next Time
Wishing you Happy Blessings
