Monday Coffee Talk

I'm so glad to see you!!

There are flowers enough in the summertime,
More flowers than I can remember—
But none with the purple, gold, and red
That dye the flowers of September!

Mary Howitt (1799-1888)

 September Trivia:

The first newspaper to ever be put into print in the US was published on September 25, 1690.

On September 1, 1752, The Liberty Bell arrives in Philadelphia.

William Taft (president 1909-13) was born on September 15th and is the only US president to have a September birthday.

I finished this cross stitch a few weeks ago.  Sure wish I had some farm fresh eggs.  Tammy had chickens for a while and kept us supplied, she moved on to other things and now we're back to Kroger eggs.

I smell autumn dancing in the breeze.
The sweet chill of pumpkin and crisp
sunburnt leaves.

Eventho it's still hotter than blue blazes here in my part of the world, Visits With Mary has gone into FALL mode.  Redecorating my blog for fall made my heart happy.  Hopefully cooler weather will follow soon.

Texas and Louisiana are both experiencing wildfires, please be in prayer for those in harm's way.

I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I’d never had a problem,
I wouldn’t know God could solve them,
I’d never know what faith in God could do.
Amen

Blessings to All

Saturday 9

Join in the fun by clicking HERE!

Saturday 9: Kiss (1986)

1) In this week's song, Prince insists there's no particular sign he's more compatible with. Do you take astrology seriously?

No

2) He tells his prospective lover there's no need to be flirty. Are you a good flirt?

Not any more. Living with three brothers I learned how to flirt early in life.  Yep, I flirted with them so they would take me places I wanted to go.

3) He refers to the nighttime soap opera Dynasty. Were you a fan?

No, and I don't know why.  I was a Dallas and Knot's Landing fan.

4) "Kiss" was recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood. Built by Walt Disney Studio, it's the studio where the soundtracks to Mary Poppins and 101 Dalmatians were recorded. When you think of Disney movies, what's the first song that comes to mind?

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah

And

   I love Jiminy Cricket.

5) Prince said he was "obsessed" with Mozart and read everything he could find about the master. Do you often read biographies? If yes, who was the last one about?

I do like biographies.  With Google, when I'm watching a movie or tv show and see a performer that interest me, I pull up their mini biography.  Mostly it's older stars I look up, I'm always curious to see what happened to them.

6) He loved snacking while watching a movie in the theater and would mix Goobers (chocolate-covered peanuts) with his popcorn. When you go to the movies, do you visit the concession counter?

Yes, I always want popcorn, coke and candy covered almonds.  It's been a while since I went to a movie theater, things at the concession counter are probably too expensive for me these days.

A little trivia for you, I worked the concession counter at our local movie theater when I was in high school.  It was a lot of fun.

7) In 1986, when this song was popular, Peewee's Playhouse premiered. While ostensibly for children, this show had many, many adult viewers. Do you ever watch kids' shows today?

I didn't care for Peewee's Playhouse.  At 77 years old, I don't watch children's shows.  I don't think I would approve of most of them anyway.

8) Also in 1986, Sears shoppers were painting their interior walls with "Country Clover," a pale beige with a hint of pink. What color is the room you're in right now?

Soft Beige

9) Random question: Do you enjoy pressing the pedal to the metal and driving fast?

Well, there was a day . . . long ago and far away.  Enough said!

Today I'll be with the GLOW ladies celebrating our 8th anniversary.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

Our celebration from a few years ago.

Left to right, Sandy, Me, Pat, Mary, Linda, Arlene and Zephra.

A wonderful group of ladies that I've known for many years.

Project Update:

I'm still stitching . . . I know Valentine's Day is getting close.

St. Patrick's Day won't be far behind.  I'll have these stitches done with time left over!

A Post for Thursday!

“A stitch in time saves nine”

is an English proverb. It describes the benefits of working hard now in order to save time later.

Finally started on one of the projects I have on my list.  I've been feeling the urge to pick up needle and thread and do some stitching.  I hope to be finished with this one soon, can you guess why?

Thankful Thursday

Be it ever so humble there's no place like home.

I'm so thankful for our home, not just because it's a roof over our head.  I'm thankful for the love within it's walls, the family and friends that come to visit, and the precious memories that live here.  💗

Until Next Time

Oh dear, my cross stitch is catty-wampus!!  I hate when that happens, sharing anyway.

cattywampus - misaligned, oblique, diagonal

I found this on the internet, it's a little long but very appropriate for St. Patrick's Day.

From Saint Patrick’s Breastplate:

I arise today
Through a mighty strength,
     the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ’s
     birth with His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion
     with His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection
     with His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent
     for the Day of Judgment.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love
     of cherubim,
In the obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet
     with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In the predictions of prophets,
In the preaching of apostles,
In the faith of confessors,
In the innocence of holy virgins,
In the deeds of righteous men.

I arise today, through
The strength of heaven,
The light of the sun,
The radiance of the moon,
The splendor of fire,
The speed of lightning,
The swiftness of wind,
The depth of the sea,
The stability of the earth,
The firmness of rock.

I arise today, through
God’s strength to pilot me,
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptation of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
afar and near.

I summon today
All these powers between me and
     those evils,
Against every cruel and merciless power
that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths
     and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts
     man’s body and soul;
Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me an
     abundance of reward.

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man
     who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone
     who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength,
     the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

Photo HodgePodge!

Well, here it is Friday and I had to struggle to find some Foto's to share.   I managed to come up with a few I hope you enjoy!

I finished one of my xstitches . . .
I painted the frame but now I'm thinking I chose a pink that's too light.  It really needs to be more of a rose color . . . that will be another project for another day!

I went by Tammy's yesterday, I love her craft/sewing room.
She is so creative, she did the stenciling and I love it!!  I don't think she used a stencil, she uses an overhead projector to put the image on the wall and goes from there!

Her latest craft . . .
She white-washed clay pots and added the artwork!!

Here's a close-up.

Last night the family met at IchiBan's to celebrate our oldest daughter's birthday.  Most of the family was there and I took pictures with my phone and they turned out so bad.  I didn't get a good one out of all that I took.  bah-humbug
So you get to see a picture of me taken by Tammy!  For an appetizer I had crabmeat puffs, oh my, they were so good!

This is a picture of Ichiban's  that I found on Yahoo images!
When the chef lit the fire the look on Ava and Emma's face was priceless!!  Ava liked it all, Emma, maybe not so much!!  As always, it was wonderful to be with the family!!

Monday Morning Coffee Chat

WoW...hard to believe the year is half over!!  It will be Christmas before we know it!!
☺☺☺

Mr D and I live close enough to Sylvan Beach that we're able to watch the fireworks from our back porch.  It's great that we don't have to fight the crowds!

My daughter gave me this plumeria plant that she started from seed.  I sure hope it continues to do good in my care.

This is a plumeria bloom I found online.  Beautiful flower and smells so good, I sure hope mine grows and gets this pretty.

I have a recipe to share with you, it is so good.  I haven't had any in a while but thinking I might have to make some soon.

Today's Daily Bread

Following God is not a solo endeavor.  He did not create us to run the race of life alone.  Companions can help us persevere through difficulty as we do what God has called us to do.

Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses. . . . let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

I Found Something!!

I found this piece of aida cloth, when I unrolled it I discovered this cross stitch that I worked last year.  I had forgotten all about it.

A cute little saying that will be fun to have in my sewing room.

I hope you're having a great Saturday!

This is the day the Lord has made;We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Home Sweet Home

Cross stitch is very hard for me these days because of my bad eyesight.  I finally purchase an
Ott magnifying task lamp that makes it easier for me.

There was a day when I would tackle large patterns that would take a while to complete, well, I gave those up!  I just can't seem to stay focused on any type of long term project, I get bored and loose interest very quickly.  The small patterns I do now are just perfect.  I can finish them in a few days and have the satisfaction of a completed piece.

I found this poem while browsing the internet, I think it fits perfectly.

(I only used the last stanza.)

A Home Song
 By: Henry Vandyke

Every house where Love abides,
And Friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home-sweet-home:
For there the heart can rest.

Cross Stitch to Bible Study

I haven't done any cross stitching lately.  The holidays were so busy I didn't even give my cross stitch a thought.  I have a box full of stitchings I finished last fall and was going thru them this morning. I found one I liked and decided to do something with it...but what?

When I finished this one last fall I had every intention of putting it in a pretty round frame.  When I looked at it this morning I thought no, that's not what I want to do.  Maybe a pillow, but I didn't really like that idea either.

I was in the mood to sew...so that's what I did...I made this extra long/wide mug rug. Or should I call it a mug mat?

I like the scripture and as the day went on I thought about it more and more. I started researching and found a speech/sermon given by Don Schultz for the graduating class of Lakeside Lutheran High School. (wherever that is!)

Do you know why Jesus said these words? The disciples were talking about how difficult it was for a sinful person to get to heaven. Jesus had just told them that it’s very difficult for anyone who loves money to go to heaven – it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for someone who loves money to go to heaven. When the disciples heard this, they were astonished. Everyone struggles with a love for money. Everyone struggles with sin. That’s why the disciples asked, “Who then, can be saved?” How can anyone get to heaven? We’re all so sinful, all the Just stop there and think about what Jesus is saying. It’s impossible for a sinful human being to go to heaven, based on their own good works, their own life. Maybe you’ve heard people say, “I’m just trying to be a good person, and then God will let me into heaven.” Jesus says, no – it doesn’t work that way. It’s impossible

Each one of us was born with original sin. And as we grow up, we sin more and more every day. We can never be perfect. And that’s why Jesus said, “With man, this – going to heaven - is impossible.”

But then Jesus said, “With God, all things are possible.” All things. That includes getting a sinful person like you and me into a perfect heaven. Here’s a test question for you graduates – how does a sinful person get into a perfect heaven? By trusting in Jesus Christ, who died on a cross for you, who rose from the dead, and who lives and rules eternally

I love when God takes me on these unexpected journeys into His word.  What started as a day to sew led me to a day with God.
Ain't God good, oh yes He is.
(My friend Deb says that all the time, visit her HERE , she would love your visit!)

Autumn Stitches

Some autumn yoyo's...

For my just finished autumn stitches.

Good-by, sweet flowers!
Through bright Summer hours
You have filled our hearts with cheer
We shall miss you so,
And yet you must go,
For this is the Fall of the year.

Until Next Time

In John 15:12 Jesus said..
"This is my commandment,
that you love one another
as I have loved you."
