Passing The Days Staying Home

 Music is a wonderful passtime and music that praises our Savior helps with the concern of the unknown future.

One thing is known with certainty, there is a God, He is on His Throne and He cares for you and me.

Join me on the Rock.

♪ On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand, ♪

Spiritually speaking, the rock is Christ. Paul called Jesus a rock in 1st Cor. 10:4. In 1st Pet. 2, Peter refers to Jesus as the 'living Stone' and the 'precious cornerstone'. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.

HYMN HISTORY:
Sometimes the grace of God penetrates into unlikely places. Edward Mote's parents were hostile to religion, but while still a boy Edward became a Christian through the influence of a cabinetmaker to whom he was apprenticed. As a man, he became a skilled cabinetmaker with a successful business of his own.

Regardless of the claims of his business on his time, Mote always found time to worship God. He was especially interested in Christian music, and one day felt inspired on the way to work to write down a verse that came to his mind. Before the day was finished, he had completed four verses. His new hymn began with the words, "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness."

Not long thereafter, Mote visited a friend whose wife was ill. It was a Sunday, and the friend mentioned that he and his wife liked to observe Sunday by singing a hymn, reading a scripture, and having prayer together. Mote had a copy of his hymn in his pocket, so they sang it. The friend's wife was so taken with the hymn that she requested a copy for herself. Encouraged by her interest, Mote had copies printed –– and soon found himself the author of a beloved hymn.

BIBLE VERSE:
Matthew 7:24 -
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

HYMN LYRICS:

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

The GLOW group did the neatest thing yesterday.  After some trial and error, we managed to connect together through visual private message.  Only four of us took part and we had so much fun.
 We plan to do it again next week and hopefully all six of us will participate!

I did some online grocery shopping with Kroger, when I checked out it gave me a next pickup date was Tuesday.  WoW....there must be a lot of people shopping online.  The stores are full of people and the shelves are mostly bare.  The sad thing is the stores are stocking, but people are over buying. 😞

Until Next Time

  3. What a great back-story! Our Bible-study gals communicate regularly through a private message; but I didn't know you could incorporate visuals. That's a neat thought!

  5. I loved singing This Little Light of Mine as a child. I think I will sing it to my grands and then have them do Bible journaling afterward on the verse. Have a great week!

  8. Oh, Mary, leave it to you for a lovely post! Very inspiring! For the last 10 years I have been disabled and home all the time really with just the odd venture out for this or that , but, for the most part home. Now that I am much improved, and can go out more, I have no where to go and no transportation anyway! LOL. makes me laugh. But it is interesting how people are coping.

  9. It is sad for us who are not over-buying or hoarding and go shopping for just what we need and can't get it. We are making do and are okay though. Hoping you and yours are too. That song is perfect and beautiful! Thank you!

  10. Sweet Mary, thank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I have a feeling I'm going to do a lot of blog reading in the days and weeks to come! I just so hate all that is going on right now. So thankful we have a heavenly father watching over us and that we can pray to. We found out today we have our first confirmed case in our small town. Please pray for us. I sure did miss going to my church today and singing the hymns. Our preacher (bless his dear sweet heart) did have a service via radio....soloist, piano special, and sermon. I haven't tried online shopping YET but plan to get on board with our local WalMart (we only have it and a small grocery store), but I have already heard the pick up times are like finding a needle in a haystack. Can you imagine how hard those poor workers are working? Someone else to pray for. Stay well and may this all be over much sooner than later!

  11. Thanks for the story behind that great old hymn.
    What a great idea to connect via the internet.
    Here too the grocery stores are overwhelmed with people shopping on line and wishing to have their orders delivered.
    Have a good week and stay well.

  12. Oh how I love that old hymn! Thank you for sharing the history of it. It is a very special hymn full of truth. Love that your GLOW ladies were able to connect, and I hope you can figure out how to do it again next time. That sounds like a great way to visit and encourage one another. I still don't understand why people are hoarding so many grocery items...makes no sense. We are blessed in our little town that they seem to stay well stocked and no one is in a buying frenzy. Praying this all settles down really soon. Please take care and stay well and be blessed my friend.
