Monday Coffee Talk

Matt and Kaylea, Hazel and Henry's mom and dad, sold their home after only 2 weeks on the market, understandingly so, it's a beautiful home.  I just learned they have already found their new home and all is looking good for them.

Tammy came for a visit on Saturday, she always brightens our day.  We talk about anything and everything, and we laugh . . . sometimes we frown.  All depends on what's going on in our little part of the world.

Weather:

The big freeze is here and it's COLD.  We're snuggled in with all we need, so no reason for us to get out until this passes.  It will only be a few days, we'll probably have the A/C on by the end of the week.  I'm just praying we don't lose power, without it we have no heat and I have no oxygen.  I do have a portable unit that will last for a few hours.

God Loves Older Women

This month marks the 9th GLOWversary of our group.  A lot of 'life' has happened over the past few years and we're not meeting as often as we used to.  Plans are being made for us to come together on the 27th and celebrate a great 9 years.  Eventho GLOW is only 9 years old, we have been friends for 35+ years.  Just old friends meeting up again in our retirement years.

This is an older picture taken at our 5 year GLOWversary.  I know I've shared this picture in the past, it's one of my favorites of the group.  A great bunch of ladies.

from my desk -

My desk is a mess.  Lately it has been a catch all, things just appear from nowhere.  Well, it seems that way.  I'll spend time filing, trashing, putting things away, and dusting.  I no more turn my back and there's a mess again.  {{sigh}}  I'm just thankful I'm still able to get the clean up done!  It might be a small blessing, but a blessing just the same.

one by one - 

One by one I'm getting first of the year projects done!  I'll soon finish the St. Patrick's Day cross stitch, ane move on to something else.  It's good for me to keep my hands and mind busy.

sing praise - 

All the time.  I love so many praise songs, up tempo and down tempo.  Lively and sacred.  But around the house you will easily find me singing the Doxology.  I just love the words and the melody.

at the well - 

I had to think about this one.  First thing that came to mind was the lady that Jesus met at the well.  In a Bible Study recently I learned that it wasn't a chance meeting, Christ had a plan, He purposely was there at the time He knew this woman would be there.  He already knew her past, yet he used her to tell others about His saving grace.  In the beginning she had no idea who she was talking too, and by the time the conversation was over she knew she had met her Lord and Savior, she was redeemed.  God is like that, He will seek us, and talk to us, and redeem us, no matter our baggage.

A Loving Savior, there is no doubt.

I would love to meet Him at the well, wouldn't you?

GLOW celebrated it's 8th birthday today.  We had such a great time eventho two were missing.  Mary and Arlene were 'under the weather,' they sure were missed.

Saturday 9: Kiss (1986)

1) In this week's song, Prince insists there's no particular sign he's more compatible with. Do you take astrology seriously?

No

2) He tells his prospective lover there's no need to be flirty. Are you a good flirt?

Not any more. Living with three brothers I learned how to flirt early in life.  Yep, I flirted with them so they would take me places I wanted to go.

3) He refers to the nighttime soap opera Dynasty. Were you a fan?

No, and I don't know why.  I was a Dallas and Knot's Landing fan.

 

4) "Kiss" was recorded at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood. Built by Walt Disney Studio, it's the studio where the soundtracks to Mary Poppins and 101 Dalmatians were recorded. When you think of Disney movies, what's the first song that comes to mind?

5) Prince said he was "obsessed" with Mozart and read everything he could find about the master. Do you often read biographies? If yes, who was the last one about?

I do like biographies.  With Google, when I'm watching a movie or tv show and see a performer that interest me, I pull up their mini biography.  Mostly it's older stars I look up, I'm always curious to see what happened to them.

6) He loved snacking while watching a movie in the theater and would mix Goobers (chocolate-covered peanuts) with his popcorn. When you go to the movies, do you visit the concession counter?

Yes, I always want popcorn, coke and candy covered almonds.  It's been a while since I went to a movie theater, things at the concession counter are probably too expensive for me these days.  

A little trivia for you, I worked the concession counter at our local movie theater when I was in high school.  It was a lot of fun.

7) In 1986, when this song was popular, Peewee's Playhouse premiered. While ostensibly for children, this show had many, many adult viewers. Do you ever watch kids' shows today?

I didn't care for Peewee's Playhouse.  At 77 years old, I don't watch children's shows.  I don't think I would approve of most of them anyway.

8) Also in 1986, Sears shoppers were painting their interior walls with "Country Clover," a pale beige with a hint of pink. What color is the room you're in right now?

9) Random question: Do you enjoy pressing the pedal to the metal and driving fast?

Well, there was a day . . . long ago and far away.  Enough said!

Today I'll be with the GLOW ladies celebrating our 8th anniversary.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

I've not been feeling well lately and staying home for the most part.  I've even missed my GLOW lunches, ouch.

Yesterday I received the sweetest card from the ladies, it touched my heart and made me smile.

 It's so nice to know you are missed.

Hello June

And the countdown begins!

Here comes the heat and humidity and I am now counting the days until November.  It's usually November before we see the first cool front.  I am not a summer person anymore, there was a day when I looked forward to summer fun, but not so much anymore.

With all that said, I will still enjoy being on the porch, with my coffee and talking with the Lord.  It's my happy place, among the flowers and watching the birds feasting at their feeder.

My heart is heavy because of all the riots happening through out our country.  It's hard to understand why some people think they have to do that to make a point, it's just hate, plain and simple.  Satan in full form.  He knows his time is short and he's doing all he can to wreck havoc on earth.

We have a powerful weapon, PRAYER . . . 

2 Chronicles 7:14

. . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 

I'm looking forward to next Saturday.  The GLOW ladies are going to meet again . . WooHoo!  There is a Mexican restaurant close by that has an outdoor patio where we can sit and enjoy being together.  We feel being outside gives us an edge of protection against the dreaded virus.  I don't know if everyone will attend, some are not ready to get out, and I respect that.

Precious Memories.

We've had some heavy storms come through our area lately, high wind gusts and heavy rain.

This in just a short time, the storm clouds made it so dark the street lights came on!

A small note:

I thought I had finished this blog and had it saved for today, it written yesterday.  I just came from facebook where our dear friend Pamela Mursch Steiner from Closed Doors, Open Windows https://pamelasopenwindow.blogspot.com/

had posted something that caused an Amen and Amen from me.  I immediately remember a sermon I heard a few days ago about saying, "Amen and Amen."  It rolls from me when I feel deeply about a message from God's Word or a message about God's Word.

  When Jesus said, "Verily, Verily," what was he saying?

  "Verily, verily"or "Truly, truly," "Most assuredly," or "Amen, amen," depends on the translation. All of His "Verily, verily" statements appear in the book of John, and they are used by Christ only when He is about to teach on a profound matter. The doubled "verily" denotes that what follows is of especially weighty and solemn significance, so we are to pay special attention. 

And another note:

I have used the 'new blogger' for this post.  Why or why did they go and change things?  It's not near as user friendly as the old blogger.  It will take me a while to find everything and remember where I found it.  You'll notice the font from a copy and paste I used is not my default for this blog, I couldn't find a default print anywhere.  Yep, this is going to give me problems.

We had a good GLOW meeting last Saturday, with all in attendance.  We had a rough 2019 with many out with illness, we were seldom a 100% attendance.  We met at Pepe's Mexican Restaurant, one of our favorite places.  It's  local, small and comfortable, with great service.  The owner knows us and makes us welcome.

We celebrated two birthdays, mine and Sandy's.  Sandy and I worked together for many years, our desk only feet apart.  We go back to days of our youth.  Her birthday is on the 23rd, mine is on the 24th and we're one year apart, her being the youngest.

We always visit for at least 30 minutes before ordering, after we order we have our prayer, thanking God for our group and our food, also lifting those friends who are absent.

This week I had the PeeWee Dinner, that's what I always order because it's so good.  One tamale, one enchilada, rice, beans and a taco.  AND a glass of sweet iced tea.

After we ate we enjoyed a great piece of cake made by Arlene,  It was a yellow cake with a pineapple cool whip icing.  She said it also had vanilla pudding, it was so delicious.  AND, of course we all had a cup of coffee with our cake.

Our main topic of conversation was the corona virus, I think it's on everyone's mind.  At this time there have been no cases near us so we're praying it will not get to our little part of the world.  Zee told us she read where the mask are really not helping, that's scary.  Linda said she read an article where there is price gouging raising the price for a box of mask to $400.  That is disgraceful, I wish there was a legal way to stop that, it's just not right.

We also talked about the high cost of prescription drugs, even with insurance some drugs are very expensive.  We discussed CVS, our new local store vs the older one in Deer Park, also those in surrounding communities.  (FYI - when you leave La Porte, you are in Deer Park)  We also talked about good and bad service at each of them, just comparing notes.

Linda shared with us about her sweet new grand dogbaby, Finn, being bit by a baby copperhead while playing in the backyard.  They rushed him to a Vet ER for treatment, fortunately the fangs didn't completely penetrate the skin and he's going to be okay.  It was very scary for the family.

The bite was on his lip and the poison traveled down his neck causing a large mass on his throat.  I was cringing the whole story.

Pat reminded us it's time for dues and a financial report which we will do next week.  We donate $5.00 a month which covers our birthday gifts and other things we might like to do as a group.

I shared a praise report that touched me deeply, one day I'll share with you.  We gave God a lot of glory bringing tears to Zee's eyes.  She was very touched.

Not much happening this week, hopefully the weather will be nice and we can sit back and enjoy nice days.

Birthday Party

I went to a birthday party and had so much fun!!

Happy Third Birthday to GLOW!!

We met on Saturday to celebrate this wonderful event.  It was decided that this celebration would be at the restaurant where we first met in 2015.  It was just three of us at that time, old friends who were just meeting for lunch to reminisce about old times.  We enjoyed it so much we decided to meet again the next week and invite others to join us. 

Arlene made the cake!!!

And the gift bags were ready!!

We've had several wonderful ladies come and go but the seven in attendance Saturday is our 'core' group.  

A wonderful group with years of friendship, coming together every week for fellowship and laughter (lots of laughter), with a thankful heart that God has given us this blessing.

Let me introduce you to everyone. . . 

This is Sandy and Arlene!  Love these ladies.
Sandy and I worked together in bank operations for many years. Arlene is our baker, she has made some of the most delicious cakes for us, she is very talented.

Pat, she is a sweetheart.  Pat was at the lunch where it all began.

Mary, she is a mentor for us.  A wonderful Child of God.

This is Linda and Zephra, aka Queen Zee!  Zephra is the glue that binds...things tend to be a little quiet when she isn't at GLOW.  Another spiritual mentor to us all.  Zephra was also at the first lunch where it all began.

We were so glad when we found Linda, she was lost from us for many years.  It was so wonderful to find her still living close and able to join us each week.

And then there's me. . . always talking, I ask the Lord every week to help me control my mouth.  Sometimes in overflows!!  lol

And I was also blessed to be at our first lunch when GLOW was born.

hmmm, wonder what Pat is looking at, it looks serious!!

God desires everyone of His children to GLOW like beacons in the universe. He wants us to conduct ourselves in a manner that is worthy of the Gospel.

GLOW Day

Saturday Evening

6 January 2018

Today was GLOW Day and only three were in attendance.  😞  Not a great way to start off our New Year.

We had 4 out sick, 1 out not wanting to get sick because she is having minor surgery on Thursday.  That left only three of us, but we still enjoyed some great food and great fellowship.  One thing for sure, we are the most laughing bunch of ladies you'll ever meet.  That's a blessing because laughter is good for the soul.

There's a lot of sickness going around here, it's just that time of year.  Hope everyone in your world is okay.

There are many years of friendship between the eight of us.  Six of us worked to together for many years, the other two came into our group as long time friends.

Laughing is an amazing gift from God. It helps you cope with sadness and everyday life.

Since we've all lived in our little town for many years, and worked together, we share many memories.  It's not unusual for us to go down memory lane and share memories of times gone by.  If we can't remember a name, or place, or situation, you can bet we're on the phone trying to find someone that will remember.

We are a mixture of different faiths that come together to worship the Lord.  We are one Catholic, 2 Methodist, 4 Assembly of God, 1 Baptist, and 1 non-denominational.   We do have different beliefs in some areas but we all love and worship the one true God.  There have been some great discussions around our table, that's for sure!

We are the reason Jesus went to the Cross.  We caused the wounds on His hands and feet, the thorns on His brow, the stripes on His back.  And yet, because of His great love, He reaches out to us every day to remove our guilt, lift up our heads, and save us.

Wisdom:

Be still and know that He is God!

Our GLOW meeting last week was so much fun.  We are a bunch of ladies who love to eat, love to laugh, love each other and love God's Word.

Her children sent her the beautiful fruit arrangement and she brought it to share with us!!!
We gave her a pretty music box, I think she liked it.

After we ate and celebrated with the birthday girl, we did our study!

Ruth ~ Chapter 3

See what happens when Ruth waits in the shadows and then makes her move in the dark of night.

In Chapter 3 we find Ruth getting to the feet of Boaz.  When she got there everything in her life changed forever.  Her experience in getting to his feet teaches us lessons about getting to the feet of Jesus.

When Ruth heard what was required, she said, "I will do it."  This would require much courage and humility on the part of Ruth.  It required her wanting to be with him so much that she made the effort to go there.  It required her to humble herself to lie at his feet.  It also required great courage for her to approach this wealthy and important man.

The same sort of resolve is required for a person to come to Jesus, whether it be for salvation, or for a closer walk.  It requires us to make a move toward Him.  It requires us to humble ourselves at His feet.  It requires us to have the courage to admit tht we have a need in our lives. 

After our study we got on the subject of speaking in tongues.  It was a great discussion...since we are a group of different faiths, it was interesting to hear everyone's beliefs.  We have done this in the past on various subjects, it's one of my favorite things to do!!

Here's the Recipe

BASKIN ROBBINS PIE

1 c. flour 1 stick butter 8 oz. cream cheese 1 c. Cool Whip 1 c. sugar 2 sm. pkg. instant chocolate  pudding. Milk for pudding mix.  Mix flour, and butter. Press in 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees; cool.

Mix cream cheese, Cool Whip and sugar. Spread on crust and chill. Mix pudding mix as directed on packages and spread on cheese mixture,. chill, spread more Cool Whip on top..

Chill overnight.

Memo:

You can also make this using pistachio pudding instead of chocolate, and add 1 cup of nuts to the flour and butter mixture.
