Summertime Memories

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 hosted by Annie!

It is Summer!

1. What memorable times have you had in summer?

Just normal summer things. We used to have a lot of family barbecues, that was always fun. Barbecues these days are at someone else's house!

2. What foods bring back that summertime feeling?

Watermelon, ice cream, hot dogs and barbecue chicken, brisket and hamburgers. Potato salad and devied eggs too. Can't forget a good peach cobbler, a big glass of sweet tea or lemonade, all are summertime good.

3. What music do you associate with summertime?

I don't have any special music for the summer. I remember many years ago the local churches would have a big 'singing' usually outside, then dinner on the ground. Churches don't do things like that anymore, not that I know of anyway.

4.Where do you want most to be in the summer if money is no object and you have the time?

I would spend the summer in the mountains where it's cool. A nice cabin by a stream would be nice. I wouldn't want it to be too remote, I still like modern conveniences close at hand. My daughter's in-laws had a cabin in Wyoming where they would spend the summer months, it most have been so nice for them.

I finished reading

Emma’s day is interrupted when she hears a knock at the door.  It’s the police informing her that her husband, Noah, has been in a serious car accident and is now in a coma. However, Noah wasn’t the only one found in the car. He was accompanied by a woman and a young child that Emma doesn’t know or recognize. Is Noah living a secret life that Emma doesn’t know about?

I found the story to be quite predictable. Although there were some twists,  I figured them out quite early. I also thought the ending was quite sudden.

It was an easy read and I give it ⭐⭐ ⭐

I also worked on my cross stitch...yea!!!   

Not much left to do now. ☺

 I finished They Call Her Dirty Sally.  I've been trying to put my thoughts together on this book, I'm having a very hard time.  First of all, my heart goes out to the title character, she endured so much in her life.  Because of her I stayed with this story until the very end, which I'm glad I did.  The events that happened were believable, but far fetched.  Just in case you decide to read it I'm going to stop my review here.  I would give this book ☆☆☆.

I've already started a new book and it's going to be a good one.  I had a hard time putting it down last night.  His Secret Daughter, just the title alone tells the whole story.  Although this incident wasn't the best thing to happen in life, I feel this story line is going to be one of forgiveness and compassion.

Not Noah. Not my husband. But there he is, unconscious in the hospital bed. Our daughter sobs into my shoulder. We love him so much. What if he never wakes up? And who is the little girl beside him, gazing up at us with big, tear-filled brown eyes? Eyes that look just like my husband’s…

I still haven't been working on my cross stitch and  I really need it finished. At the rate I'm going St Pat's Day will come and go before I'm done. {{sigh}}

Hello February

Love is in the Air!

I've always loved the month of February, maybe because it's my birth month.  Could be because of Valentine's Day, I've always been a romantic.

This month is very popular in my family, we have 8 birthday's and 2 anniversaries.

Happy Birthday in heaven to my Daddy, my brother Jeff and Mr D's dad, Herman.

Happy Birthday to my grandchildren, Kaylea, Ava and Sean.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the business of life, that we forget to take a moment 

and think about the really nice things in life and we forget to remember the “unseen things.”

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom,you should ask God,who gives generously to

 all without finding fault,and it will be given to you.

The following three short stories serve as quick reminders of the simple concepts of wisdom

that we sometimes forget. It is my hope that you will be able to remember them each day!

Story #1

Once upon a time, a village decided to get together and pray for rain. On the day of the prayer, 

all the people gather…only a small boy brought an umbrella.

THAT’S FAITH!

Consider the feeling of a one-year-old baby. When you throw it up in the air, it laughs because

The Real Rainbow - Wednesday's Wisdom

God put the rainbow in the sky.

When God shut Noah in the grand ol' ark

God put a rainbow in the sky

Oh, yes, the sun grew dim and the days were dark

The Rainbow Covenant

The first instance of a rainbow that we find in the Bible is found in the story of Noah and the flood. God set a rainbow in the sky to serve as a sign of the covenant that he would never again destroy all life with flood waters.

“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life”

Genesis 9:13-15

 

When we see a rainbow we are seeing the promise of God.

It's very inspiring to read about Noah and his faith in God.  I pray for that kind of faith.

Wednesday's Wisdom

We haven't been getting out much, but today we had had enough!!

We went to Denney's and enjoyed a good breakfast then drove around a little while.  It was nice to be out and about.

After temps in the 80's for most of December, we finally had 2 nights of freezing weather.   I brought in the Hearts of Hawaii so they would survive.

Hearts of Hawaii don't like to be cold.

I'll probably keep them in until spring.

Today's Wisdom

During hard times, it’s easy to wonder why the Lord is taking so long to bring relief. Like the psalmist, we cry to God “out of the depths” for help (Psalm 130:1), but as time drags on, we may be tempted to take matters into our own hands. Believers, however, are not to operate as the world does, determining a course of action based on human reasoning or the example of others. Instead, our guidance is to come from God, and our hope is to be in His Word (Psalm 130:5-6).

Wednesday's Wisdom

Today I'm sharing some old wisdom from

long ago and far away.

When I saw this I knew I had to share, it's cute and it's a precious memory of times gone by.

Recipe for Washing Clothes

A grandmother gave the new bride the following recipe:

This is an exact copy as written and found in an old scrapbook, spelling errors and all.

WARSHING CLOTHES

Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert.

Shave one hole cake of lie soap in boilin water.

Sort things, make 3 piles

1 pile white,

1 pile colored,

1 pile work britches and rags.

To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boiling water.

Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard and boil, then rub colored don't boil just wrench and starch.

Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench, and starch.

Hang old rags on fence.

Spread tea towels on grass.

Pore wrench water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy water.

Turn tubs upside down.

Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

Ladies, we are so blessed to have electric washers and dryers.  Laundry was an all day chore and it wasn't easy, long ago and far away.
