Thankful Thursday

My little (younger) brother called this week. Even though he’s in his 70s now, he’ll always be my little brother in my heart. As always, it did my soul good to hear his voice and catch up on what’s happening in his world. We don’t get to see each other often—three hours is just a bit too far for a quick drop‑in and a cup of coffee—so I’m especially thankful for our phone visits. I truly enjoy them.

Our weather has been beautiful lately, even if it’s been too cold to sit out on the porch. Sunny days, bright blue skies, and a wind that cuts right through you. A late-season cold front blew in, and it looks like we’ll have a few more chilly days before the warmth settles back in. Still, I’m grateful for my little porch with its swing and all the plants waiting patiently for spring. Just knowing it’s there brings me joy.

And speaking of things that bring joy—they finally finished the house across the street. It looks ready to sell now. Best of all, they picked up the port‑a‑potty and hauled it away. I can’t tell you how thankful I am to look out my window and not see that anymore. :))

The Beauty of Being Thankful for the Little Things!

I am so thankful for the little things in life—the quiet, ordinary moments that don’t make headlines but somehow steady my heart. It’s funny how God often tucks His sweetest reminders into the smallest corners of the day. A simple phone call, watching nature from the comfort of my swing and the birds hopping along the fence as if it stopped by just to say hello. These aren’t grand gestures, but they are gentle nudges that whisper, “I’m here. I’m caring for you in ways you don’t even see.”

Gratitude doesn’t always come from mountaintop moments. More often, it grows in the simple rhythms—morning coffee, a familiar chair, the sound of someone you love moving around the house. For me, it's the sound of Mr D playing his music. When we slow down enough to notice, these small blessings begin to feel like threads God uses to stitch peace into our days. And the more we pay attention, the more we realize how much there is to be thankful for.

Life may not always be easy, but it is always sprinkled with grace. Sometimes it shows up as a butterfly dancing through the yard, sometimes as a memory that makes you smile, and sometimes as the quiet assurance that God is walking right beside you. (Thank You Lord) The little things remind us that joy doesn’t have to be loud to be real—it just has to be noticed.

Yes, I'm thankful for phone calls, chilly sunshine, porch swings, and even the disappearance of a port‑a‑potty—each is a gift worth rejoicing in.

Thankful Thursday

Life has a way of shifting our pace whether we asked for it or not. These days, I don’t get out much, and I don’t mingle the way I once did. It isn’t by choice—just the natural bend in the road that comes with age and a few health challenges. But here’s the part that surprises even me: I’m still happy. I'm still content, I'm still thankful and satisfied with the life God has given me right here, right now.

My world may be smaller than it used to be, but it’s far from empty. I’m always on the lookout for little things to keep my hands busy and my heart engaged. Some days it’s journaling with my colored pens and washi tape. Other days it’s diamond art, latch hook, or simply sitting with a cup of coffee and letting my thoughts wander or best of all, just sitting and talking with God. I may not have a calendar full of events, but I have a life full of moments—and that counts for something.

The challenge, of course, is finding things to write about when my days are quiet. I don’t have big adventures to report or bustling social gatherings to describe. But maybe that’s the beauty of it. Maybe this season invites me to notice the small blessings—the ones that are easy to miss when life is louder.

There’s meaning in the slow mornings. There’s comfort in familiar routines. There’s joy in discovering new hobbies, even at 81. And there’s peace in knowing that God is not limited by my mobility or my circumstances. He meets me right where I am, in the quiet corners of my day, and fills them with His presence.

From life I've learned to savor the gentle things: a soft chair, a good memory, a hymn drifting through the house, a phone call from someone I love, or the simple pleasure of writing down a thought that made me smile. (I do that a lot😊)

This season may be quieter, but it is still rich. And I’m grateful to be here, living it, noticing it, and sharing it with you.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

😊Today's thought that made me smile!😊

One of the things I love about God's Word is that it has no expiration date.

Thankful Thursday

It’s a cool winter day with the sun shining bright, just the way I like it!  I caught some movement from the corner of my eye and when I turned I saw a pretty butterfly fluttering around the rose bushes.  Delightful.

The Butterfly

I was sitting on the porch today,

When a butterfly flew up to play.

I watched him flutter his wings up and down,

As he looked at me not making a sound.

I smiled at him and he smiled back,

Then he flew away . . . .

                      Goodbye Butterfly.

πŸ¦‹

A poem I wrote on a similar day of few years back.

I found a little lizard sunning himself on the back porch and a few birds wishing there was seed in their feeders.  I need to put that on Mr D’s ‘to-do’ list.

He had some high numbers on his last blood test and today he’s off to the doctor to get some things checked out.  I know he would appreciate your prayers.

As for me, I’ll sit here by the big window and work on my diamond art until he’s back home.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, brah
La-la, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, brah
La-la, how the life goes on

Even with the worries that come with doctor visits and the unknowns we all face, my heart is resting in gratitude today. The sunshine, the butterfly dancing through the roses, the tiny lizard soaking up warmth, even the birds reminding me to refill their feeders—all of it feels like God’s quiet way of saying He’s near. So I’m choosing thankfulness right here by the big windows, trusting that the same God who watches over the smallest creatures is watching over us too. Life goes on, and grace goes with it.

Ephesians 5:20: "Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Hello February & Thankful Thursday

Hello Februaty, it's good to see you again.

Our past few days have been nice enough for Mr D to work in the yard.  He's been busy weeding flower beds, edging the sidewalk and various other things to make our home look nice.  He cleaned the back porch from a lot of winter disarray.  It really looks nice again and we did some porch sitting yesterday afternoon.  The dogbabies loved being outside for an extended length of time, running and sniffing and sniffing and running!  Great fun for them.  More than likely we'll have a few more cold fronts so I'll enjoy being outside while I can.

I found this beautiful prayer that I want to share.  Hope you like it as much as I do.♥

 A Little Prayer

Let us be thankful, Lord, for little things -

The song of birds, the rapture of the rose;

Cloud-dappled skies, the laugh of limpid springs,

Drowned sunbeams and the perfume April blows;

Bronze wheat a-shimmer, purple shade of trees -

Let us be thankful, Lord of Life, for these!

Let us be praiseful, Sire, for simple sights; -

The blue smoke curling from a fire of peat;

Keen stars a-frolicking on frosty nights,

Prismatic pigeons strutting in a street;

Daisies dew-diamonded in smiling sward -

For simple sights let us be praiseful, Lord!

Let us be grateful, God, for health serene,

The hope to do a kindly deed each day;

The faith of fellowship, a conscience clean,

The will to worship and the gift to pray;

For all of worth in us, of You a part,

Let us be grateful, God, with humble heart.

-- Robert William Service

This will certainly go in my journal.

February brings with it lots of hearts and valentines.

One of my favorite hearts is from my youngest valentine, Peggy♥

Today's Thankfuls

  • For Mr. D who keeps our little bungalow so neat and clean.
  • For Robert William Service who wrote such a beautiful prayer for all to enjoy.
  • For my daughters, Tracey - Tammy - Peggy who bless Mr D and I beyond measure.
  • For my Lord and Savior who has given me so much mercy and grace and SALVATION.

Hope everyone enjoys a very loving February!

Thankful Thursday

Today I’m thankful for the ability to be thankful
and the way thankfulness breeds thankfulness more and more…
because the more you practice being thankful….
you find
the more you have to be thankful for.

Thankful Thursday

A few of my 'thankfuls' for today.

It's always nice to have my morning coffee in a pretty new teacup.  My latest teacup gift from Tammy.  That girl is so good to her Momma!  Not only was the coffee good, but talking to the Lord was extra good.  Our Father Who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name❤.

Most of you know how much I love porchsitting.

Well, here I am,

on my swing,

on the porch,

 loving life!

Just a swangin' and thanking the Good Lord for such a good day.

Thankful list . . .

When the scale tells me I’ve not gained a pound

When my glasses or phone or keys have been found,

When the cop pulls me over but spares me the ticket

When my ice cream cone drips and I get to lick it,

When I read the obituaries and don’t know a soul,

When the car just ahead of me pays for my toll,

When my pants can fit without sucking my gut inπŸ˜€

When I’m on the dance floor and a man asks to cut in,

When it’s time for a movie and I get to choose it,

When I cut out the coupon and remember to use it.

Everyone understands the worth

Of a big celebration: a marriage, a birth

But moments of joy, too many to mention

Brighten each day, when we just pay attention.

A Dog Named Rum & Thankful Thursday

“It’s Thursday. I’m breathing. I’m alive and I’m blessed.
 God is so good.”
It's a happy and blessed Thursday!

Sharing a cute poem today, hope it makes you smile.

The Ballad Of Rum
By Peter R Wolveridge

Poem About A Loveable Guard Dog
A story based on a real dog who still watches over our yard in his own way.

A dog wandered into our garden one day,
A friendly old mutt, didn't look like a stray.
We never discovered whence he had come,
But we brushed him and fed him and the kids called him Rum.

Now as family members, even dogs must work hard,
So we put Rum on duty next door in our yard,
Bright eyed and watchful by night and by day,
But not much of a guard dog, I'm sorry to say.

He barked at the cats and he'd bark at a toad,
He barked at the cattle outside on the road,
He barked at the horses - so where did he fail?
You see, Rum liked people, and he just wagged his tail.

He liked the yard labor, an amiable bunch.
They fed our dog tidbits and scraps from their lunch.
Rum wolfed it all down, but to our dismay
He seemed to get fatter with each passing day.

Then one night when Rum was laid at his ease,
A burglar crept in just as quiet as you please.
He saw no alarms, heard no siren howling,
No guard dog for sure, there'd be barking and growling.

But Rum was awake and he'd seen him alright,
Delighted with company this time of the night,
He flew through the yard, his new friend to greet,
And his weight bowled the burglar right off of his feet.
The intruder got up and ran off with a wail
And Rum right behind him still wagging his tail.
He departed the yard he'd come in to burgle
Like a champion athlete clearing a hurdle.

But Rum couldn't jump gates, so sadly instead
He picked up the thief's wallet and went back to bed.
Next morning the evidence everyone viewed,
When Rum brought it to us, (just a little bit chewed).

Once given the wallet, the police didn't fail
To capture the burglar and put him in jail.
His confession like wildfire spread through the town,
How a big vicious guard dog had knocked the thief down.

We all howled with laughter when we heard the story,
And Rum was our hero, he was basking in glory.
There's been no attempts since to burgle our yard,
For everyone knows now that Rum is on guard.

Thankful Thursday

I had my regular checkup with the pulmonologist on Monday and I'm doing great!  Needless to say, I'm so thankful for a very good report.

Tuesday we went to the DMV in Baytown so I could renew my driver's license.  I've been dreading going because there is usually a long line.  Much to my surprise it wasn't crowded at all, I was in and out in about 30 minutes.  I sure was thankful there was not a long wait.
When we left there we went to Cracker Barrel for a good meal.  Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite restaurants.

Always remember you are a child of God
and truly loved by your Father in Heaven.

Until Next Time

Thankful Thursday

Today's Thankfuls:

I am so thankful for Maria!!
Maria is the lady that has been cutting my hair for the past 15 years.  I'll be seeing her today she'll work her miracles on my hair.  She gives great cuts, and I enjoy talking with her as she snips away.

Great news for Mr D !  Yesterday he had an appointment with his heart doctor for his 6mos check-up.  All was good, ekg looked good and his pacemaker is working like it's supposed to.  Thank You Lord. He has a monitor that sits by the bed and sends data from his pacemaker back to the doctor.  Amazing what they have in the medical world these days.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for my family. And it’s not just blood ties
but the deep bonds we have with each other.

🎡There's a dark and a troubled side of life
There's a bright and a sunny side, too
Though we meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view🎜

I am thankful for friends. They are not just friends,
they are extended family.

I am thankful for pets who are in my heart. Buddy Boy and Bitsy Baby.

I am thankful for health professionals. Mr D and I have health issues
and we have some great doctors/specialist and surgeons.

♬The storm and its fury broke today
Crushing hopes that we cherished so dear
Clouds and storm will in time pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear♫

I am thankful for technology and connectivity. We are able to connect with
friends and family, and even meet new friends. We get to have
food delivered online, shop clothes online, watch various content online, and more.
Because it's hard for me to go into a store to shop, online shopping is a blessing.

I am thankful for our home. A basic need and I am blessed
to live in a sweet little bungalow by the bay.

Celebrating the engagement of Cody and Priscilla.
I am thankful for celebrations. Celebrating events with family & friends, so much fun.

🎢Let us greet with a song of hope each day
Though the moment be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our savior always
Who keep us every one in his care 🎝

I know we live in difficult times, and I know that many are going through challenging times.
To quote the one of a kind, Betty White, “if you focus on the negatives, you spoil all the good stuff,
and it goes by, and it’s gone, and you haven’t tasted it.” Try to always stay on the sunny side of life.

🎜Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life 🎢

Until Next Time

A Post for Thursday!

“A stitch in time saves nine”

is an English proverb. It describes the benefits of working hard now in order to save time later.

Finally started on one of the projects I have on my list.  I've been feeling the urge to pick up needle and thread and do some stitching.  I hope to be finished with this one soon, can you guess why?

Thankful Thursday

Be it ever so humble there's no place like home.

I'm so thankful for our home, not just because it's a roof over our head.  I'm thankful for the love within it's walls, the family and friends that come to visit, and the precious memories that live here.  πŸ’—

Until Next Time

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday, a great day to let you know how thankful I am for my amazing family.

Yesterday, the 21st, Mr D and I celebrated our 60th wedding annivery.  We were blessed at a wonderful party hosted by our 3 girls, Tracey, Tammy and Peggy.

Most of the family were there, only a few didn't make it because of previous engagements.  Tammy had called earlier in the day asking for a list of our favorite songs from long ago, imagine how delighted I was when they were played as we were seated.

Cards and gifts are so nice, but the best gift is being with these loved ones, our family.  Merica and Hazel were a joy and I got big hugs from them both.  Little Henry decided to sleep through the entire event. :)

Emma met us at the door and escorted us to the area that was reserved for us.  I hadn't seen Ava and Emma in a while, they have grown so much.  Little ladies now, not little girls.

I love this ornament from Maegan.  We both had a good laugh with it.  Maegan is my firstborn grandchild and she gives the biggest loving hugs ever.  I love Maegan Hugs.

Peggy was sitting to my left with all her family on that side of the table.  Tracey and Scott were right across from me with Tammy sitting next to Scott.  Mr D was to my right with Bo sitting next to him.  The right of the table was Tammy's family.  Tracey's daughter Tara and her hubby were also sitting on the right.  It was a great time, so much love, laughter and chatter in the air.

Mr D and I told a few stories from our pre-marriage days, the ones we could remember!  Everyone seemed to enjoy them, especially the grands.

A friend of Maegan's made this pretty cake, it was a spice cake on top and it looked to be a white cake on the bottom.  Spice is one of my favorites, so that's what I had.

I really wish this was a better picture, I don't know why Mr D has his eyebrow arched and my glasses need to be pushed up.  But hey, it's us and if you had been there this is the 'us' you would have visited with.

AND . . .  it would have been great if you had been there.

Until Next Time
