Monday's Coffee Talk

I try to bloom every morning, these days I feel like I'm wilting on the stem

Have I mentioned it's hot?

So glad this is the last day of July, that means we're much closer to cooler weather.  Where I live we probably won't start having cooler temps until October, the nights will be cool lasting into the late mornings.  It will be pleasant to be outside.

Summer Trivia

In the summer heat, the iron in France's Eiffel Tower expands, making the tower grow more that 6 inches.

This Day in History

Jeremiah 30:1-3

Restoration of Israel

1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:

2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a

book all the words I have spoken to you. 3 The days are coming,’

declares the Lord, ‘when I will bring my people Israel and Judah

back from captivity[a] and restore them to the land I gave their

ancestors to possess,’ says the Lord.”

I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah:

This is a promise stated many times before and after in Jeremiah. Yet as this prophecy develops, it seems clear that this return from captivity is later and greater than the relatively soon return from the Babylonian exile.

This is especially indicated by the last words of this chapter, which tell us that in the latter days you will consider it (Jeremiah 30:24).  Jeremiah here looked beyond his present day and near future to see the latter days.

Family News:

Today is our youngest grandson's birthday.

He is a precious young man, we are so proud of him.
Happy 24th Birthday Travis!

AND, guess who's walking?
Henry took his first steps, it won't be long now until he's off and running!

On The Porch:

We have a baby living on our porch!

This tiny little lizard has been playing in my ivy for several days.  I think he likes it because it's out of the heat, probably a little cooler under the ivy.

Around The House:

One of my many favorite scriptures hangs over my stove.  We spend a lot of time in the kitchen so it's in a perfect spot to be seen every day.  A wonderful message from God, He takes care of us!

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Today's Quote

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.
~ John Lubbock

Today's Poem

Heat is a lemon lollipop - -
a sun that melts and bends and sticks.
It's a sweaty knees and trees that flop.
Heat is a lemon lollipop - -
delivering summer - - make it stop!
It presses down like burning bricks.
Heat is a lemon lollipop - -
a sun that melts and bends and sticks!

Monday's Coffee Talk

Hello Monday, weren't you just here?

Hello everyone, Please come in.  I've got plenty of hot coffee or I'll gladly make you a cup of tea if you prefer♥

Today's Coffee Trivia
Coffee beans are actually seeds, which come from the inside of a fruit very similar to a
cherry. In fact, they are often called coffee cherries.
The plant’s scientific name begins
with the genus Coffea, followed by the species. For example, arabica beans come from
the Coffea arabica plant. Its pits are cleared of fruit and dried before being shipped away
for roasting. (Do not try this with actual cherries.)

Family News:
Travis and Savannah are on the road making their way to the cabin in Wyoming where they will join the rest of the family for a nice vacation.
Here they are at The Grand Canyon.

Tammy is home from her trip to Africa which makes me a happy momma!
Telling the elephants good bye!

Youngest daughter Peggy has been on the go this summer.  A trip to Oregon and then a cruise.
It's good to have her home too.

On The Porch:

I'm not enjoying the porch this summer, it's much too hot out there.  It's always hot this time of year, but this year it's been extremely hot, more so than our normal temps for this time of year.  We've had days of 100+ degrees with a heat index as high as 114*.  My COPD makes is hard to breathe when it's that hot.  So, I sit in the house with the blinds open, at least I can see out and enjoy what few pot plants I have that are surviving.
I am so excited to tell you my Hearts of Hawaii are making a comeback, I almost lost them during the hard freeze we had last winter.

This Day in History:
1758 George Washington elected to Virginia House of Burgesses representing Frederick County.

1866 Tennessee becomes 1st Confederate state readmitted to Union

1901 Writer O. Henry is released from prison in Austin, Texas after serving three years for embezzlement from a bank.

Check out these temps!  WoW, that's HOT!
1936 118°F (48°C), Minden, Nebraska (state record)
1936 121°F (49°C), near Alton, Kansas (state record)

In The News:
I read an article where the CDC is advising the public to prepare for a severe RSV, Flu & Covid season this fall.  Certainly not good news for anyone, especially those of us who suffer from chronic lung disease.  I don't get out too much, but I'll be getting out even less during the fall months.  I survived covid a couple of years ago, even surprised my doctors!  The Great Physician wasn't surprised at all, He just wasn't ready for me, I guess He still has things for me to do.

Monday Coffee Talk ~ Holy Week

Today's Thought

From: Robert Morris

When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, He did so with one thought in mind–you. Because of His love for you and His desire that no person be separated from God, whether by sin or by death, He sacrificed Himself on our behalf.

What an amazing Savior!

Holy Week

Day 1:

Jesus made His triumphal Entry on Palm Sunday

On the Sunday before his death, Jesus began his trip to Jerusalem, knowing that soon he would lay down his life for our sins.

Day 2:

On Monday, Jesus Clears the Temple

When Jesus arrived at the Temple, he found the courts full of corrupt money changers.  He began overturning their tables and clearing the Temple, saying, "The Scriptures declare, 'My Temple will be a house of prayer,' but you have turned it into a den of thieves" (Luke 19:46).

Day 3:

On Tuesday, Jesus Goes to the Mount of Olives

Later that afternoon, Jesus left the city and went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives, which sits due east of the Temple and overlooks Jerusalem. Here Jesus gave the Olivet Discourse, an elaborate prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the age.

Day 4:

Holy Wednesday

The Bible doesn't say what the Lord did on the Wednesday of Passion Week. Scholars speculate that after two exhausting days in Jerusalem, Jesus and his disciples spent this day resting in Bethany in anticipation of Passover.

Day 5:

Passover and Last Supper on Maundy Thursday

Holy Week takes a somber turn on Thursday.   From Bethany, Jesus sent Peter and John ahead to the Upper Room in Jerusalem to make the preparations for the Passover Feast. That evening after sunset, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as they prepared to share in the Passover. By performing this humble act of service, Jesus demonstrated by example how believers should love one another. Today, many churches practice foot-washing ceremonies as a part of their Maundy Thursday services. Then, Jesus shared the feast of Passover with his disciples, saying: "I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. For I tell you now that I won't eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God." (Luke 22:15-16, NLT)

Day 6:

Trial, Crucifixion, Death, and Burial on Good Friday

Good Friday is the most difficult day of Passion Week. Christ's journey turned treacherous and acutely painful in these final hours leading to his death.

Day 7:

Saturday in the Tomb

Jesus' body lay in its tomb, where it was guarded by Roman soldiers throughout the day on Saturday, which was the Sabbath. When the Sabbath ended at 6 p.m., Christ's body was ceremonially treated for burial with spices purchased by Nicodemus:

Day 8:

Resurrection Sunday

On Resurrection Sunday, or Easter, we reach the culmination of Holy Week. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event of the Christian faith. The very foundation of all Christian doctrine hinges on the truth of this account.

UP FROM THE GRAVE HE AROSE

Low in the grave he lay, Jesus my Savior,
waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!
Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Today’s Scripture

John 11:25-26

New King James Version

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall

never die. Do you believe this?”

Yes Lord, I believe.

Amen

It is my prayer that each of us take a special minute everyday to remember and be thankful for all Christ accomplished during this time know as Holy Week.

Until Next Time

Monday Coffee Talk

Not much to talk about around here, it's been a cold week keeping me in the house.   It's been so windy, that's what makes it so cold.  Anyway, I've been staying busy doing odds and ends, a little bit here and a little bit there!

Monday Morning Prayer
Greater Things
By: Rainbow Blessings

Dear Lord Thank You for today
a new day a new beginning of
a new week
Clothe me Lord with your
blessings of being humble
and meek

Help me to begin this day
with a new song you've
given me from above.
I give you praise for the hope I
have of "Greater Things" and
my heart you've filled with love.

Lord as in Heaven the choir
of the Angel Band sings
I'm expecting miracles from
you Lord of "Greater Things"

Amen
11-23-15

As I'm sitting here this morning, trying to put a post together that you might enjoy . . . my mind says, put down the laptop and walk away for a few minutes, you need to RE-group.
As I looked at 'RE' I was reminded it’s a prefix that God uses often in what He does –

He REdeems,
He REstores,
He REnews,
He REfurbishes situations in our lives that may seem hopeless . . .
. . . there is always hope in Jesus!

I'm so blessed to know He REfills my soul with His blessings each and every day.

Ain't God Good?!

Looking out the window I can see the sun has come out and it looks like such a pretty day.  It's 55* and with warm clothes that's tolerable to sit on the porch awhile . . . if the wind has laid down.
I think I'll check it out.

Hope you have a marvelous Monday!

Until Next Time

Monday Coffee Talk

I've too many irons in the fire!

I really let last week get ahead of me.  Mr D had a doctor appointment, that was the biggie.  Very thankful to report, ALL IS WELL♥.  The stress test from this year showed improvement from the one two years ago.  We had to celebrate that good news and we did!!

I finally finished the St Pat's cross stitch ~ yea!!  I haven't framed it yet so pictures will be coming, I hope before St Patrick's Day. 😊 I've already started a new pattern, which is another easy one.  I picked up the sampler I've been working on forever, and got a few new stitches done.  Samplers are hard for me but are so pretty when done.  One stitch at a time and the piece will get done!

We've also been doing a lot of clean up on the porch and front of the house.  Spring is in the air and it makes us want to be outside more.  The dogbabies have enjoyed being out for long lengths of time.  They don't stay out long if Mr D and I aren't outside with them.

Tammy's been by for some good visit times, we can talk for ever about anything.
I enjoy her visits so much.

Pour me another cup of coffee
For it is the best in the land
I'll put another nickel in the jukebox
And play Truck Drivin' Man!

I also started another Bible Study on the Book of Psalms.

I'm not really using it as a study, more of a devotional/commentary.  The workbooks usually have great pointers and tips for the scriptures involved.  I enjoy that.

From Chapter One:

Although worship is our gift to God, when we worship with psalms, something happens within us: Hope soars, and we are transformed.  The psalms proclaim the hopes to which we have been called, and in our attempts to bless the living God, we find ourselves blessed.

Family News

Monday Coffee Talk

Bible Trivia:

William Tyndale produced first printed edited of the New Testament in English. He was later burned at the stake for his efforts.

***
Adam’s name is from the Hebrew word
'a da ma', which means “the ground.”

Today's Poem:

Did God Speak To You?

The man whispered "God, speak to me"
And a meadowlark sang.
But the man did not hear.

So the man yelled "God speak to me!"
And the thunder rolled across the sky.
But the man did not listen.

The man looked around and said "God let me see you"
And a star shone brightly.
But the man did not notice.

And the man shouted "God show me a miracle"
And a life was born.
But the man did not know.

So, the man cried out in despair.
"Touch me God and let me know that you are here!"
Whereupon God reached down and touched the man.
But the man brushed the butterfly away and walked on.

Moral:

Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't packaged the way you expect.

Around Town:
A year or so ago a new restaurant opened in our little town.  It was a big hit because they serve what I call 'plate lunches.'  It was just what we needed because we mostly have fast food or Mexican food, a Barbecue place and a couple of seafood restaurants.  Unfortunately, they weren't open long before it caught fire and burned. Good news, after many months of rebuilding they are now open again.  Mr D and I went Saturday and enjoyed a good meal.  I had the fried mushroom appetizer, and they were delicious.

On The Porch:

I thought I had lost this plant, it was so big and pretty last year, maybe 4ft tall.  There was also one on the front porch the same size.  That one didn't make it through the winter, now the porch looks naked.  {{sigh}} But this one on the back porch is sprouting new growth and that makes me happy.

Monday's Coffee Talk

 Hello Monday!

Tammy brought me flowers for my birthday last Friday!  It's a Reiger Begonia, the blooms look like little roses, a very pretty plant.

It was a very quiet and peaceful weekend at my house.  The weather was nice and I managed to do some porch-sitting while the dogbabies played in the yard.  They are liking this springy weather too.  My plants look terrible from the hard freeze we had earlier, some are showing new growth and that's a good sign.  It's going to be a slow process but I don't think I lost any.  My Hearts of Hawaii really look bad, I'm holding my breath with them.  I think I'll repot them and see if that will help to make them come back to life.  With that said, the porch was still very inviting and I enjoyed my time out there.  The porch also serves as my prayer closet when the weather allows.  I love to be with the Lord when I'm out there, I can feel Him with me.

Today's Quote:

“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons.”—T.S. Eliot

Coffee Trivia:

You Can Thank Goats for Coffee
Did you know goats were the reason why coffee was invented?  According to legend, in the 9th century, Ethiopian farmers noticed the way their goats danced when they ate the Coffea plant. A local monk decided to give it a try and realized the drink kept him up at night and thus, coffee was born.

Around Town:

The seagulls were waiting for supper.   They are always hanging around the boat ramp waiting for boaters to come in, hoping to get their left over bait.

Great grandson Henry, he's growing like a weed.

Blessings From Heaven:

Speaking from my own heart, it's been a wonderful experience becoming better acquainted with some of the many and marvelous blessings that are ours in Christ Jesus. . . blessings from the very heights of heaven.  It's incredible to realize that as children and daughters of the King, you and I have received "every spiritual blessing"(Ephesians 1;30).  Believe it, because God says it!  This fact alone should prompt us to fall to our knees in adorating praise.  My friend, as you are obedient to God and rely on the power of the Spirit, you will experience the daily reality of your heavenly blessings in Christ.

Reiger Begonia:

Rieger begonias are lovely flowering plants that bloom in bright pinks, reds, yellows, oranges, and whites.  Rieger Begonias (Begonia x hiemalis) are popular houseplants with gorgeous
flowers with gorgeous blooms.
Rieger Begonias are hybrid crosses of Fibrous Wax Begonias and Tuberous Flowering Begonias.
They thrive in indirect light and moist potting soil. They’re also very easy to grow!

Watering Rieger begonia
Rieger Begonia thrives with moist, well-draining soil. In addition, soggy soil can lead to root rot
and powdery mildew. So, it’s best to wait until the top layer of soil becomes dry before watering.
You can check the soil’s moisture levels by sticking your finger in the soil. If it’s dry, go ahead and
water your plant. If not, wait a few days and check again.

(“Any time is coffee time.”—Unknown)

Today's Prayer:

Lord, help me to think of others and to share Your love with them so they, too, can experience the countless blessing You give.  I want to hold tightly to Your magnificent promises and the great gifts of Your peace, love, and grace.
Amen

Until Next Time

Please pour me some coffee
a cup or two.
Then I'm sure I'll be totally new

Monday Coffee Talk

Love is happiness that is shown day after day.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, a special day for love.  Mr D and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day, sometimes he'll get me a card or a box of candy and sometimes he'll give me a pretty bouquet of flowers.  Most of the time, he gives me a kiss and I kiss him too, we exchange 'I love yous' and enjoy being home together.  So simple and sweet, so meaningful even after 60 years together,

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody,
you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
Nora Ephron, “When Harry Met Sally”

Morning Routine:
I am a creature of habit.  I have a morning routine that I do every morning.  If something happens to interfer in my routine my entire day seems off.  I'm a late sleeper because I'm a night owl.  I like to be up and having my coffee by 10am because I watch The Price is Right every morning.  After it's over I take my meds and watch the local news.  I take my sugar level before I eat anything which is always something light.  I then do the exercises they taught me in rehab.  Last and certainly not least, I do my Bible study.  Most people do their study first thing, but I find I'm more alert later in the morning.  My mind is clear and ready to recieve His Word.

how much a heart can hold.”

What I'm Studying.
Along with reading a psalm every day, I'm studying as I read through Romans.  It's a study that Crosswalk offered on facebook, so I took it, afterall it was free.

These little treasures hang from the zipper of my Bible.  Each one is a reminder of something or someone special in my life.

Family News:
Tammy and Peggy and their hubbies left Saturday on an eight day cruise.  They love cruises and go often.  That's one thing that just doesn't interest me at all.  I do enjoy the pictures they're sending, it's good to see them having a good time.
